Clarkson, Hammond & May Announce the Name of Their Amazon Clarkson, Hammond & May Announce The Name Of Their Amazon Prime Show May 11, 2016 After months of deliberation and lots of useful suggestions from the public, for which the guys are very grateful, Amazon has today announced that Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond & James May have chosen a name Because they are taking their new Amazon Prime show around the world, they have decided it will be called: The Grand Tour London – 11 May, 2016 – “Thing is,” said Jeremy Clarkson, “We'll be travelling the world hosting each episode in a different country, from a giant tent. It's a sort of "grand tour", if you like. So we've decided to call it 'The Grand Tour'.” James May admitted to being underwhelmed by the name. “I wanted to call it ‘Nigel’, or ‘Roger’. We needed a name, and they're names.” Richard Hammond was more positive. “I already love camping,” he enthused, “But this is something else. We are like our pioneering and prospecting forebears, sallying forth into a new frontier of broadcasting, and making our home where...” but at this point Clarkson and May strangled him with a guy rope. Not only will the pre-recorded location films in the Amazon Prime show be shot in exciting locations, but the studio audience recordings will also take place at a different location around the world every week. The pre-recorded studio sections of the programme will be filmed in front of a live audience, all housed within a giant tent. Therefore in this spirit of travel, adventure and intrigue, the presenters have decided to call the show ‘ The Grand Tour’. “Well, that took a while...,” said Jay Marine, VP of Amazon Video Europe. “After nine months of deep thought, debate and deliberation, the guys have come up with a name that reflects the global ambition of the new show. The Grand Tour will be one of the most anticipated TV launches ever, and we’re excited to be bringing it to Amazon Prime customers around the world this autumn.” The Grand Tour will launch in autumn 2016 exclusively for Amazon Prime members and the new travelling format means Amazon customers around the world will have the chance to be in the audience when tickets are released through prize draws this summer. Details of the location schedule and information on how to apply for tickets will be announced shortly. Fans can follow The Grand Tour on Facebook (www.facebook.com/thegrandtour) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/thegrandtour) and at www.amazon.co.uk/thegrandtour to get news about the show first. Amazon announced in 2015 that Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May would reunite to make a new car show available for Amazon Prime members. The show is produced by the trio’s long time executive producer Andy Wilman. The award-winning team have committed to three series as part of this landmark global TV deal. James will set off on an epic 4,000-mile fact-finding mission across the United States of America; a land of mountains and bayous, skyscrapers and deserts, a collision of a myriad viewpoints, cultures, and lifestyles. Journeying from Cape Cod to Seattle, via New York, Detroit, Nashville, New Orleans, Houston, Santa Fe, Las Vegas, and LA, he’ll put the disappointment of 1776 behind him as he immerses himself completely in the real American way of life to discover its true flavour [sic]. “I’m setting off with two objectives: To go West, like the settlers and prospectors of old, and not get fat on American breakfasts in the process,” said James May. “As a man brought up (raised) on U.S. cop shows and Hollywood films, I still believe that everything in America must be better; from the size of their fridges to the uncanny alignment of their teeth. But is it?” “Exhilarating as James exploring his own kitchen is, we are thrilled to be getting Our Man back on the road for another adventure,” said Dan Grabiner, Head of UK Originals, Amazon Studios.

  • Investigation Into the the Accident of Richard Hammond
Investigation into the accident of Richard Hammond Accident involving RICHARD HAMMOND (RH) On 20 SEPTEMBER 2006 At Elvington Airfield, Halifax Way, Elvington YO41 4AU SUMMARY 1. The BBC Top Gear programme production team had arranged for Richard Hammond (RH) to drive Primetime Land Speed Engineering’s Vampire jet car at Elvington Airfield, near York, on Wednesday 20th September 2006. Vampire, driven by Colin Fallows (CF), was the current holder of the Outright British Land Speed record at 300.3 mph. 2. Runs were to be carried out in only one direction along a pre-set course on the Elvington runway. Vampire’s speed was to be recorded using GPS satellite telemetry. The intention was to record the maximum speed, not to measure an average speed over a measured course, and for RH to describe how it felt. 3. During the Wednesday morning RH was instructed how to drive Vampire by Primetime’s principals, Mark Newby (MN) and CF. Starting at about 1 p.m., he completed a series of 6 runs with increasing jet power and at increasing speed. The jet afterburner was used on runs 4 to 6, but runs 4 and 5 were intentionally aborted early. 4. The 6th run took place at just before 5 p.m. and a maximum speed of 314 mph was achieved. This speed was not disclosed to RH. 5. Although the shoot was scheduled to end at 5 p.m., it was decided to apply for an extension to 5:30 p.m. to allow for one final run to secure more TV footage of Vampire running with the after burner lit.
