Some members of a civil organisation and the staff of the local museum helped us and contributed their local knowledge to these topics. This geoday was an excellent opportunity to create personal contacts with local students, teachers and civil organisations and to start a longer cooperation. This event also helps to build a local identity, linked to the local geological heritage. Celebration of a renewed geological nature trail near Alsóörs village: the Red Stone Nature Trail was renewed in 2015–2016 by young and enthusiastic volunteers of Pangea Association, one of our Geopark Partners. Thanks to this successful cooperation, the local community received the ’Geosite of the Year in Bakony–Balaton Geopark’ award in 2016. The renovated trail is located in a disused stone quarry. Besides describing a typical rock type of the Geopark, the cca. 260 million years old Permian red sandstone, the new information panels present the history of quarrying, the rich cultural heritage and the biotic assets of the surrounding woodlands.
