Congo Peacock – an Update
Congo Peacock – an update The discovery of Congo Peacock Afropavo congensis was one of the most sensational ornithological events of the 20 th century, partly because such a large bird had eluded discovery and partly because of its potential affinity with Asiatic species (1). It was in 1936 that James Chapin found two mounted specimens put away on top of a cabinet at the Belgian Congo Museum (now Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren, near Brussels), having been misidentified as Pavo cristatus for 20 years, and thus considered uninteresting (2). It was rediscovered and photographed by wildlife film-maker Alan Root in 1993 (3, 4). It has remained an elusive and rarely seen and photographed species so it was with great interest and excitement to receive this photograph of a female Congo Peacock located by Mark Van Beirs (http://www.birdquest-tours.com/news ) ABC member Michel Louette, the former head of Ornithology at the RMCA writes to say that his late student Emile Mulotwa at the University of Kisangani, worked on this species for his doctoral thesis in 2008. Assam-Mizoram Border Dispute
Assam-Mizoram Border Dispute drishtiias.com/printpdf/assam-mizoram-border-dispute Why in News Recently, Assam-Mizoram border witnessed firing over a territory dispute, which spotlights the long-standing inter-state boundary issues in the Northeast, particularly between Assam and the states which were carved out of it. Mizoram borders Assam’s Barak Valley and the boundary between present- day Assam and Mizoram is 165 km long. Both states border Bangladesh. Key Points 1/3 Ongoing Tussle: Residents of Lailapur village in Assam’s Cachar district clashed with residents of localities near Vairengte in Mizoram’s Kolasib district. Earlier in October 2020, a similar clash took place on the border of Karimganj (Assam) and Mamit (Mizoram) districts. Mizoram civil society groups blame “illegal Bangladeshis” (alleged migrants from Bangladesh) on the Assam side. Background: The boundary issue between present-day Assam and Mizoram dates back to the colonial era when inner lines were demarcated according to the administrative needs of British Raj. The issue could not be settled once and for all when the state was created in independent India. The result is both states continue to have a differing perception of the border. Mizoram was granted statehood in 1987 by the State of Mizoram Act, 1986. Assam became a constituent state of India in 1950 and lost much of its territory to new states that emerged from within its borders between the early 1960s and the early 1970s. The Assam-Mizoram dispute stems from a notification of 1875 that differentiated Lushai Hills from the plains of Cachar, and another of 1933 that demarcates a boundary between Lushai Hills and Manipur. -

Indian Peafowl (Pavo crisatus) population status and distribution was studied in South Coimbatore district especially in Polllachi area from August 2017 to January 2018. The study carried out in 13 villages in South Coimbatore including Nchavelampalayam, Chandrapuram, Kollupalayam, Chellampalayam, Marampudungigoundanur, Athanaripalayam, Kotturmalayandipattinam, Vallakundapuram, Vedasanthur, Kanchampalayam, Sangampalayam, Angalankuruchi, Paramadaiyur Village etc. From the present study, 405 direct sighting consists of 1283 Peafowls in 13 villages were recorded. -

Carrying capacity is a concept that has been extensively applied in tourism and leisure studies since the 1960s, but its appearance can be date back to the 1930s. It may be viewed as an important thought in the eventual emergence of sustainability discussion, it has become less important in recent years as sustainability and its associated concepts have come to dominate planning on the management of tourism and its impacts. But the study of carrying capacity analysis is still an important tool to know the potentiality and future impact in tourism sector. Thus, up to some extent carrying capacity analysis is important study for tourist destinations and states like Mizoram. Mizoram is a small and young state with few thousands of visitors that visit the state every year. -

LETTER OF INTENT FOR LEASE OF COLD STORAGES AT CHAMPHAI AND VAIRENGTE, MIZORAM NLUP IMPLEMENTING BOARD : MIZORAM; AIZAWL ……… 1 TERMS OF REFERENCE (For Lease of Cold Storages) SECTION-I Introduction: Development of Horticulture Sector and its produces is an integral part of NLUP Project highlighted in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) which has been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) of the Government of India. Horticultural crops like Potato, Turmeric, Ginger, Squash, Passion fruit, Spices, M. Oranges, etc., are produced abundantly in the State every harvesting season. There is also a bright scope of market for these crops. The State Government through Agriculture Department and Horticulture Department, built up three Cold Storages at Champhai and Vairengte to preserve Horticultural Crops for further marketing. The State Government has now bestowed the responsibility of the Cold Storages to NLUP Implementing Board right from the implementation of the project till today. SECTION-II Methodology: NLUP Implementing Board, due to limited fund, lack of technical personnel and other infrastructural problems, decided to lease these Plants to capable Firm. According to this, the Firm selected to lease the Plants will debit an Annual Lease Fee to the Govt. of Mizoram during the last month of every financial year. For this, the Firm should know the context and their capacity to run the Cold Storages before making their bid. Specifically the job of the Firm, amongst others, would be as under: To collect harvest from the farmers in general and beneficiaries in particular. To motivate beneficiaries, farmers, etc and their level of confidence about the commitment of their Firm entrusted with lease programme. -

Chakraborty3 1Department of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology, 2Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics, 3Department of Veterinary Microbiology, College of Veterinary Sciences & AH, CAU, Selesih Aizawl, Mizoram, India *Corresponding author ABSTRACT A total of 200 raw pork samples (Aizawl=100, Imphal=100) were subjected for K e yw or ds Total Viable Count (TVC), Coliform Count (CC) and Faecal Streptococcal Count (FSC). The overall mean TVC was recorded as 5.9985 ± 0.0254 log10cfu/g. Raw pork, However, the mean TVC were reported as 6.0577 ± 0.0406 and 5.9393 ± 0.0295 Bacteriological, TVC, CC, FSC, Aizawl, log10cfu/g from Aizawl and Imphal, respectively with significant variation -4 -5 Imphal between Aizawl and Imphal at 10 dilution (P<0.05) and at 10 dilution (P<0.01). All the pork samples from Aizawl and 98.00% samples from Imphal showed Article Info positive for coliform organisms. The overall mean CC was recorded as 5.2727 ± Accepted: 0.0707 log10cfu/g with the mean values of 5.3828 ± 0.0945 log10cfu/g from Aizawl 10 April 2018 and 5.1627 ± 0.1045 log cfu/g from Imphal.
