Türkiye Parazitoloji Dergisi 28 (1): 5-11 2004 “Kaal Daana” (Cutaneous Leishmaniasis) in South-West Pakistan: A Preliminary Study Juma-Khan KAKARSULEMANKHEL Sand flies, Leishmaniasis & Mosquitoes Lab. / Zoology, University of Balochistan, Sariab Road, Quetta, 87300, Pakistan SUMMARY: The incidence and prevalence of “Kaal Daana” (cutaneous leishmaniasis), sand fly species and rodent reservoirs were studied in seven geographical areas in south-western Pakistan (Balochistan). Fifteen thousand eight hundred and forty seven persons (5-40+ years in age) were examined. Eight thousand and seven (50.52 %) had active lesions and 7529 (47.51 %) had scars resulting from past infection with CL. A total of 2013 sand flies were collected indoors and from rodent burrows using an aspirator and more often with sticky traps. Seven species of sand flies of the genus Phlebotomus and 16 species of the genus Sergentomyia were identified. Forty-one of the one hundred thirty nine rodents trapped alive belonged to the Meriones sp. and the remaining included 61 Rattus rattus, twenty-one Tatera indica and 16 Mus musculus. One Meriones sp. was positive for amastigotes in smears prepared from the ears of the animal. Toplam 2013 kum sineği örneği ev içlerinden, kemirici yuvalarından ağız aspiratörü ve yağlı kağıt tuzaklar kullanılmak suretiyle yakalanmıştır. -

GOVERNMENT OF PAKISTAN PUBLIC SECTOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME 2021-22 PLANNING COMMISSION MINISTRY OF PLANNING, DEVELOPMENT & SPECIAL INITIATIVES June, 2021 PREFACE Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) is an important policy instrument aiming to achieve sustainable economic growth and socioeconomic objectives of the government. The outgoing fiscal year PSDP was made with a particular focus on strengthening the health sector and creating economic opportunities to combat widespread disruptions caused by COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of efficient and well-coordinated management of the pandemic, the economy showed signs of recovery and economic growth stood at 3.94% during FY 2020-21. In the upcoming year 2021-22, the priority of the Government is to further spur economic activities. Therefore, the PSDP in 2021-22 has been enhanced by 38% from Rs 650 billion in FY 2020-21 to Rs. 900 billion (including foreign aid of Rs 100 billion). The focus of PSDP 2021-22 is on improving transport and communication facilities with special emphasis on inter-provincial and regional connectivity, investment on building large dams and water conservation systems as per the National Water Policy, augmenting and strengthening health sector infrastructure and service delivery, improving access to higher education, social protection, increasing employment and livelihood opportunities, reducing regional disparities, mitigating effects of climate change, building knowledge economy, enhancing agricultural productivity & ensuring food security and supporting Public Private Partnership initiatives through providing Viability Gap funding. Special Development Packages have been initiated under the Regional Equalization Programme to ensure the development of the deprived areas to bring them at par with other developed regions of the country. -

Three sites Sonmiani, Gadani and Kund Malir were selected. The Gaddani coast is known as sandy cum rocky shore, Sonmiani as sandy cum muddy shore while Kund Malir is sandy. Three different stations were selected on each site for sampling. At each station, five different samples were collected. At all three sites, the amount of medium and fine sand showed greater amount and very fine sand depicted lesser. The results showed that soil samples collected from three coasts mostly have highest fraction of find sand and lowest portions of very fine sand. At Sonmiani the soil composition is fine sand and very fine sand as compared to Gadani where the soil is of fine sand and medium sand and at Kund Malir the soil is of fine sand along with medium sand but very fine sand also present. -

Efforts of their dilution entail strenuous efforts starting from an understanding of the causative factors, to creating awareness especially among planners whose task is to henceforth channelize resources for its minimization. The present study is an analysis of the multivariate factors responsible for creating both social and economic inequality in Balochistan, considered as one of the most backward provinces of Pakistan. With the help of Multivariate Analysis, a highly advanced econometric method, the causes of disparity in Balochistan have been identified, presented in the form of factors, which have been used as a guideline for suggesting solutions for ameliorating the vicious prevalent condition. The results indicated that a well guided, integrated and sustainable planning prior to total implementation is imperative.
