During our tour we’ll see the hit musical Hamilton the story of an immigrant who rose to be one of the most powerful people of his era! We’ll see how migration affected Chicago with stories about early European settlers, African Americans whose “great migration” brought the roots of the to the city and more recently how Eastern Europeans became a vital part of our population. We’ll also experience the in depth exhibit Saturday Night Live during it’s exclusive 2018 stay in Chicago at the Museum of Broadcast Communications . Tuesday, March 13 – Hamilton Tonight! Meet your tour directors Dea and Declan at the St. Louis Airport for our quick mid-morning flight to Chicago on Southwest Airlines. When we arrive we board our private vehicle with our local tour guide. En route you will hear stories of Chicago until we arrive for our included lunch. We dine in luxury at the legendary Lawry’s Restaurant, housed in the former McCormick Mansion just off the Magnificent Mile. The McCormick family was one of the first to build on the north side of the Chicago River after the Great Fire – creating a new center of wealth and power for the city’s elite. Now it is famous for their incredible steaks and amazing seasoning! After lunch we visit the studio of , which was formed and run by brothers Leonard and . Chess was central to the blues and rock music genre of the 60s. At one time, Chess Records was considered "America's greatest blues label" with notable acts including , Howlin' Wolf, , , and . was one of the main producers, songwriters and arrangers of the signature "Chess Records Sound". You may have seen the story Chess in the movie featuring Keb Mo, Beyonce as Etta James, and St. Louis’ own Cedric the Entertainer as Willie Dixon. The Rolling Stones had three studio sessions and immortalized the studio in their song 2120 South Michigan Avenue. Next we visit the First United Methodist Church at the Chicago Temple located at Clark and Washington in the Loop. First United Methodist Church of Chicago, the oldest congregation in the city is house in this 568-foot tall skyscraper, which is the tallest church building in the world. It serves as a Neo-Gothic monument to the Methodists’ commitment to the Loop at a time when pressure was great to move to the suburbs. The Main Sanctuary sits on the first level. But what draws thousands of visitors every year is the Sky Chapel, just above the 22nd floor inside the old bell tower. The Guinness Book of World Records says this is the highest point of worship above street level. The chapel was a donation from Mrs. Walgreen of the famous Walgreen family, in memory of her husband. Note: Two flights of stairs required to Chapel. We check into our theatre district hotel, the Cambria Loop. The newest addition to the Choice Hotels chain, spacious, modern rooms overlooking the lights of The Loop neighborhood await us. We gather in the lobby to walk 2.5 blocks to the CIBC Theater, where the hit show everyone is talking about is playing – Hamilton! This revolutionary new musical has taken Broadway by storm and continues to be the hottest ticket in Chicago for 2018 – and we have yours! Rear Mezzanine Tickets included.
