history in 1900. 26 Jan 1888 ALBERT Iron Of Liverpool. Bound for Fleetwood from Talcahuano, Chile During the WILLIAM Barque/ salvage of the cargo by Horse and wagon, 3 horses died, two in to Wheat mud holes and one dropped dead in the shafts. The wreck was recovered but condemned. It had been a visitor attraction whils on the beach with visitors paying 6d for the privilege. Saved 10. 17 Dec 1889 VELINHELI Schooner/ Of Carnarvon. From Port Dinorwic to Preston. Two days later, the 140 tons of Velinheli was eventually refloated and towed to Preston to discharge Slates her cargo. 7 Nov 1890 EBENEZER Schooner/ Of Runcorn. Bound for Londonderry from Runcorn. Ship was Salt demolished on site and remains abandoned on 1892. During the same storm, the sister ship, the Walter Dean, was reported ‘never seen again’ by The Lytham Times. The same night the researcher’s Great Grandfather’s ‘Punt’ was ‘smashed to bits by the heavy sea’. Saved 4. 14 Oct 1891 TWO SISTERS Smack/ Of Southport. Abandoned by the crew, during a storm. The following morning, the Smack was refloated and at one stage was boarded and manned by the authors Great Grandfather. 25 Jun 1892 COUNTESS OF Schooner/ Of Runcorn. Bound for Looe in Cornwall. The Master of the ship had CARRICK Coal died in March and the Schooner was manned by a crew of four including the Masters wife. Ran aground. 9 Oct 1892 SIRENE Norwegian ship Sirene was sailing from Fleetwood to Florida in the United States on 1892 when it was caught up in a hurricane and smashed into North pier, destroying part of the pier. The eleven crew members jumped onto the pier to safety. The ship's wheel is housed in Blackpool lifeboat house.[ 12 Feb 1894 SS HUNTCLIFF Tramp Had been anchored off Llandudno when the anchor chain snapped. steamer/ She was beached between Squires Gate and St. Annes, being refloated 11 days later. The beach became a temporary fairground. 22 Dec 1894 ABANA Barque/ Of Farsund, Norway, Abana was sailing from Liverpool to Florida but was caught up in a storm and mistook the then recently built for a lighthouse. The Abana was first seen off North Pier but by the time the lifeboat, which had to be towed by horse from Blackpool to Bispham, had been launched it had drifted to Little Bispham where it was wrecked. Andrews Church in Cleveleys. The remains of the Abana are still visible at low tide on the beach at Little Bispham. On the same day as the Abana hit the pier, a fishing boat from Fleetwood, the Petrel was also driven ashore by the same storm close to Uncle Tom's Cabin at North Shore. Saved 17 13 April 1896 HARRIET Fishing Of Marshside saved vessel and 4 smack 16 Jun 1897 HMS Built 1798)The HMS Foudroyant, which had been used by Nelson as FOUDROYANT his flagship from 6 June 1799 until the end of June 1801, was wrecked on, during a fund-raising voyage around the coast of Great Britain. The Foudroyant came to Blackpool from Southport on 4 June and anchored two miles out to sea between Central and North piers. Just before 6am on 16 June the ship was caught up in a hurricane force storm and broke anchor. She drifted toward land, and just missed the jetty at North pier before hitting the shore slightly to the north at Cocker Square. The ship was then bought by a local syndicate who made souvenirs from the wood. Most of the ship though was broken up in a storm in November 1897. Saved 28 23 Jun 1899 TARLETON LASS Schooner/ Of Preston. Bound for Preston from Larne. Stranded on the Salthouse Timber Bank. Later refloated and towed to Lytham Pool. 21 Dec 1900 STEAM HOPPER Steam Of Preston. Bound for Preston from the Mersey, stranded on the Ribble NO 6 Hopper/ Banks in ‘appalling weather’ Refloated with help from St Annes Lifeboatmen. 21 Dec 1900 CHILTONFORD Schooner Of Glasgow. Bound for the Sidney from Liverpool. Dragged its anchor and stranded on the Horse Banks shortly after the ‘No 6’. 27 May 1905 CARLSTON Steam Of Glasgow. Bound for Preston from Ardrossan. She was stranded on Coaster/ Horse Bank until 24 January, then towed to Preston. 800 tons of Pig Iron 18 Jan 1906 LITTLE NELLIE Smack/ Of St Annes. The smack capsized crossing the Salthouse Bank in a storm with the loss of two men, members of the St Annes Lifeboat Reserve Crew. The Smack was salvaged by fishermen from St Annes and Lytham. 15 Oct 1907 TERN + 2 Fishing The three fishing smacks were caught is a severe storm. Word went

Bound for Preston from Skelfto. Foundered on Salthouse bales of Bank, the ship was seen to brake up in heavy seas and capsized Pulp despite the crew releasing cargo to lighten the ship. The wreck abandoned remained visible on the banks for many years. 23 Jun 1919 HERBERT BLACK Schooner/ Of Boston, Mass. Aground on Saltehouse Bank. 8 plus cat rescued plus some cargo. Ship broke up and settled in the sand. 11 Jan 1920 JANE & ANN Schooner/ Of Carnarvon. Broke anchor at Llandudno and drifted settled on Salthouse Bank. She was refloated six days later. 1981 HOLLAND XXIV Dredger Beached at Cleveleys 31 Jan 2008 MS RIVERDANCE RORO The Riverdance in service on the , was travelling from ferry/ Peat Warrenpoint in Northern Ireland to Heysham when it ran into trouble at about 19:30. A total of twenty three people were airlifted from the ferry, which ran aground on the beach at Anchorsholme, Cleveleys, opposite Anchorsholme Lane at about 22:50. The ship was beached very close to the remains of the abanaon 1 February a 400-metre exclusion zone was placed around the stricken ferry and it was revealed that the ferry could be stranded on the beach for some time before salvage teams could remove her. The ship suffered further structural damage during storms on 12 March, and it was announced on 10 April that all attempts to refloat her had been abandoned and that she was to be scrapped on site. 27 Mar 2008 COCO LEONI Motor Ran aground opposite Lytham windmill.
