We value strongly the positive partnerships that we enjoy with our parents and we know that you will take a keen interest in your child’s holistic development including academic progress and performance. Your child has the right to learn and achieve and we aim to optimise the learning opportunities of all the pupils at Archbishop Temple School. Attendance Good attendance underpins a happy and successful school life. It is our expectation that, unless there are exceptional medical circumstances, your child will be at school and learning. All pupils are expected to achieve at least 96% attendance throughout the academic year; this equates to four days of absence. Our Pastoral Support Officer, Mrs Player, and our Transition Co-ordinator, Miss Dean and our Heads of House - Miss Walsh (Canterbury House), Mrs Bergon (Durham House), Mr Gray (Winchester House), and Ms Keller (York House) - will closely monitor your child’s attendance and share with you any concerns that might arise. The Education Authority will be informed of all cases of persistent, unacceptable attendance through Mrs Player. If your child is absent from school, please telephone the school office, 01772 717782, and leave a message including your child’s name, form and reason for absence. Please contact the school before 8.30am on each day that your child will not be in attendance. If you do not contact us, we will contact you via ParentMail/text alert to request that you contact school and provide a reason for your child's absence. Lateness to school is not condoned. If your child arrives to school after 8.30am s/he must report immediately to reception, where they must sign in and provide a reason for their lateness. Pupils who arrive to school late will serve a lunchtime detention on that day, if they do not provide a note from a parent/care explaining why they should not require to do so. Medical/dental appointment absence should be reported to school before 8.30am to avoid a ParentMail being sent. In order to maintain a satisfactory attendance record, we request that all medical appointments, doctor or dentist, are scheduled out of school hours or during school holiday times. The school calendar incorporates 14 weeks of pupil holidays each year and we expect that our learners will take their family holidays during these weeks. The headteacher is unable to authorise leave of absence for holidays during school time. All absences of this type will be recorded as unauthorised. One day per occasion may be requested for religious observance; a holiday request form for this must be completed well in advance. Archbishop Temple School Application Pack for Temporary Teacher of Technology Main Pay Scale Post January 2020 - August 2020 Welcome to Archbishop Temple School Our headlines Our pupils are fantastic—highly motivated and engaged young people with supportive and caring parents. We are the highest performing, non-selective school in Lancashire and the whole of the North West Region. That means we achieve among the highest GCSE results from 861 comparable schools. We are ranked in the top 50 schools in the country (without a 6th form) by the Sunday Times in their Good Schools Guide. Around 90% of our pupils consistently achieve five GCSE grades at 9-4 (including English and Maths). In 2019, our GCSE results were 83%, this put us in the top 10 of non- selective schools nationally. We teach an academically challenging curriculum, in line with government aspirations for all young people. We have just under 800 pupils aged 11-16, and 88 staff (47 teachers and 41 support staff). We are always heavily oversubscribed for places (we have over 1000 applications for one of our 155 places for 2019). As a Church Of England School we aim to maintain a distinctly Christian ethos while being genuinely welcoming and inclusive. We run a vibrant and diverse extracurricular programme which involves most staff members. We have been told that we are “outstanding” by Ofsted three times – we agree! Our facts 60% of our pupils are white British. The next largest minority are children from an Asian (mainly Indian, Muslim) background (29%). 3% of our pupils claim FSM and 6% have SEN and 13% are EAL.

  • SOUTH SECONDARY 2016-17 Revised P49 (29 Sept
Definitions For Voluntary Aided, Foundation, Free Schools and Academies for Admission Purposes The following terms used throughout this booklet are defined as follows, except where individual arrangements spell out a different definition. Distance The 'straight line' method of measurement only applies for admission purposes. For transport 'walking routes' are used to determine distance. Explanations of these terms can be found in the main booklet. Parents/Family Members A parent is any person who has parental responsibility or care of the child. Where admission arrangements refer to 'parent's attendance at church' it is sufficient for just one parent to attend. 'Family members' include only parents and siblings. Medical/Social/Welfare Where schools have a medical/social/welfare admission criterion then this should take into account the circumstances of the child and the family. Please note the Local Authority information in the accompanying admissions booklet. Looked After Children The School Admissions Code (December 2014) states that within the oversubscription criteria, the highest priority must be given to looked after children and previously looked after children. Previously looked after children are children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangement, special guardianship or accommodation order). Further references to previously looked after children in the Code means such children who were adopted (or subject to child arrangement orders or special guardianship orders) immediately following having been looked after. Admission Authorities for faith schools may give priority to all looked after children and previously looked after children whether or not of the faith, but they must give priority to looked after children and previously looked after children of the faith before other children of the faith.
