Consequently, we put the highest emphasis on our pupils achieving their potential in every area of school life; indeed we challenge them to attain beyond expectations and seek to support them in rising to this chal- lenge. We value strongly the positive partnerships that we enjoy with our parents and we know that you will take a keen interest in your child’s holistic development, including academic progress and performance. Your child has the right to learn and achieve and we aim to optimise the learning opportunities of all the pupils at Archbishop Temple School. Attendance Good attendance underpins a happy and successful school life. It is our expectation that, unless there are exceptional medical circumstances, your child will be at school and learning. All pupils are expected to achieve at least 96% attendance throughout the academic year; this equates to four days of absence. Our Pastoral Manager, Mrs Player, our Transition Co-ordinator, Miss Cross, and our Heads of House - Miss Walsh (Canterbury House), Miss Dean (Durham House), Mr Gray (Winchester House), and Ms Keller (York House) - will closely monitor your child’s attendance and share with you any concerns that might arise. The Education Authority will be informed of all cases of persistent, unacceptable attendance through Mrs Player. If your child is absent from school: Please telephone the school office, 01772 717782, and leave a message including your child’s name, form and reason for absence. Please contact the school before 8.30am on each day that your child will not be in attendance. If you do not contact us, we will contact you via ParentApp (text alert) to request that you contact school and provide a reason for your child's absence. Lateness to school is not condoned. If your child arrives to school after 8.30am s/he must report immediately to reception, where they must sign in and provide a reason for their lateness. Pupils who arrive to school late will serve a lunchtime detention on that day if they do not provide a note from a parent/carer explaining why they are not required to do so. Medical/dental appointment absence should be reported to school before 8.30am to avoid a ParentApp message being sent. In order to maintain a satisfactory attendance record, we request that all medical appointments, doctor or dentist, are scheduled out of school hours or during school holiday times. The school calendar incorporates 14 weeks of pupil holidays each year and we expect that our learners will take their family holidays during these weeks. The headteacher is unable to authorise leave of absence for holidays during school time. All absences of this type will be recorded as unauthorised. One day per occasion may be requested for religious observance; a holiday request form for this must be completed well in advance. 3 School Calendar Autumn Term 2019 INSET Day 1 (no pupils in school) Monday 2nd September 2019 Start of term for all pupils Tuesday 3rd September 2019 8.30am Year 7 10.30am Years 8—11 Half Term Monday 21st October – Friday 25th October 2019 (inclusive) INSET Day 2 (no pupils in school) Friday 29th November 2019 End of Term Friday 20th December 2019 at 1.30pm Spring Term 2020 School Re-opens Monday 6th January 2020 at 8.30am INSET Day 3 (no pupils in school) Monday 31st January 2020 Half Term Monday 17th - Friday 21st February 20120 (inclusive) Easter Holidays Monday 6th - Friday 17th April 2020 (inclusive) Summer Term 2020 School Re-opens Monday 20th April 2020 at 8.30am May Bank Holiday Monday 4th May 2020 Half Term Monday 25th May - Friday 29th May 2020 (inclusive) Open Evening Thursday 2nd July 2020 - pupils finish at 2.30pm INSET Day 4 (no pupils in school) Friday 3rd July 2020 School closes for pupils Friday 17th July 2020 at 1.30pm INSET Day 5 (no pupils in school) Monday 20th July 2020 All Year 7 pupils should arrive at school for 8.30am on Tuesday 4th September 2019.
