Every player who pulls on the boots in the Championships will be eligible to play for the Peter Knights-coached Victoria Country side in the historic encounter against our Metropolitan counterparts in July. The Metro side will be coached by Western Bulldogs champion, and former AFL assistant coach at three clubs, Brian Royal, with the team to selected from the six major Metropolitan competitions’ triple header on Saturday March 29 at Visy Park. A second Victorian Country senior side and an U19 outfit will also take part in the Metro Vs County Clash, taking on representative sides from the Victorian Amateur Football Association continuing their annual clashes.

The Eagles start their 2014 campaign against local rivals CHELSEA. The game pits last season’s premiers against the wooden spoon side, but these games are rarely one- sided and always hard-fought. The Eagles, so impressive last year, will start the season without several players from their premiership side who are overseas attending Beau Turner’s wedding. “It will be interesting. I think the side will look very different to the premiership side in round one,’’ Edi- Asp coach Troy Shannon said. The Eagles will unveil powerhouse full-forward Jarrod Garth, as well as several other talented newcomers. Steve and Tim Mannix, Tim Mavric, Brent Bowden and Jeremy Heys will again play key roles. Chelsea starts the season with a new coach, a star recruit and an upbeat attitude.

We welcome our Major Sponsors back on board for Season 2014, Askin Performance Panels, Knights FM and the Mordialloc Sporting Club, without their major contributions to the club the cost of running a club would be cost prohibitive to many local families. We welcome back coaches Troy Shannon and Ross Mitchell (18s) again this season, and introduce our newest coach in charge of the reserves Chris Barker, with a strong coaching and football department we look to improve our depth of performance throughout the year. Few new faces in the Eagles jumper this year, so to all our supporters, become members, and to all our members lets get behind the players and be loud and proud of the Eagle in 2014. Youth Girls Footy The FDJFL are entering our 50th year and finally look to have a Youth Girls Footy comp for all – from ages 11 to 17. There has been a great deal of interest about the place so far, both through a number of the clubs and directly through a recent training and information session held at Kananook. Together with a number of Mornington Peninsula JFL clubs, we are confident of getting this show off and running for 2014. At this stage we are not certain of the age group splits, nor the number of teams BUT rest assured that all the boxes will be ticked to ensure that we have a great outlet for our girls who are either too old to compete with the boys or simply feel better suited to an all female competition. The season may be a little shorter that our current 14 rounds but all matches will be Sundays (rather than Saturdays). For further information go to www.frankstondjfl.vcfl.com.au and go to the Youth Girls menu.

The Dandenong Southern Stingrays recorded their first win for 2014 in their first game in the TAC Cup , beating the Gippsland Power by 1 point on Saturday 29th March in Morwell, after a very dominate display in the first quarter by Gippsland Power. With bragging rights and a brand new Trophy on offer “ The Colin Watson/Car Megamart Perpetual Cup” both clubs were keen to impress their related Sponsors, with Gippsland flexing their muscles in the first 40 minutes and looking like adding more silverware to their collection, as it was one way traffic on the scoreboard. The Stingrays team were completely outplayed by a very well drilled and discipline team in the Power who were dominating leading by 22 points at the first break and more impressively keeping the Stingrays goalless. The Stingrays had plenty of the play and were dominating the inside 50 entries but could only manage 2 points with many other too shallow allowing for easy rebounding, a trend that last until the middle of the 2nd quarter where they finally broke the drought and started clawing back the 47 point deficient. At the start of the second quarter the trend of dominance and wayward kicking continued for the first part of the quarter with the Power lead growing before 2 goals to AFL AIS recipient Tom Lamb, who went onto kick 6 for the game, and three more to the running midfield brigade. The Stingrays players once settled took the game on more, started
