CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES ‘EXPOSING YOUR BUSINESS TO NEW LEVELS’ We pride ourselves on achieving excellence in every aspect of our Club both in our football programs and our social responsibilities. The days of only having to pick players out of local football and present them to the AFL recruiters are long gone. The charter and responsibility of the Dandenong Southern Stingrays now encompasses drug and alcohol awareness, learner driver education, racism in society and sport, time management skills, diet and nutrition programs, social and domestic violence programs and a wellbeing program. These social programs filter down from our TAC Cup Under 18 male and female teams, through our staff into all of our underage programs. Every person works within the club expecting excellence from our players and with them taking these standards back with them into local football communities. This creates exciting opportunities for your business to become part of our Club; to help expand our Club and its programs to new levels and help our Club to continue to grow so we can maintain and improve our current status. The Dandenong Southern Stingrays have appeared in 25 finals series in the 27 years with 113 players drafted onto AFL club lists. In 2018 we still have 41 players on an AFL list and second to Geelong Falcons in the most 200 AFL game players. Also in 2018 we have 2 AFL Captain’s in Nathan Jones Melbourne FC and Tom Lynch Gold Coast FC, along with 4 Vice Captains. We also have numerous ex players that are working in coaching or administrative roles within AFL clubs. In 2017 we added 2 draftees in the inaugural AFLW draft- both to Carlton. We were crowned Champions and Premiers for the first time in 2018- only losing one game of football for the year! Short history A team representing the Town of Beaconsfield played two matches in 1890, the first against Cranbourne on June 20. Beaconsfield joined the Mornington Peninsula League in 2002 after stints in the SWGFL and the WGFL. The Eagles continue to enjoy a healthy rivalry with the Berwick Football Club, culminating in the annual Battle of the Creek match. Great eras The Eagles won a hat-trick of flags in the SWGFL from 1980-82, and in 1993 transferred to the WGFL. The club enjoyed immediate success at reserve and junior level but had to wait until 1999 for its initial senior premiership in West Gippsland. This success was followed with another flag in 2001. The club also had five reserves successes, three under-17 and three under-15 premierships in this eight- year period. A major VCFL restructure saw Beaconsfield join the MPNFL in 2002, with premierships coming in 2003 and 2004.

    TAC Cup Round 2 2 & 3 April 2016 $3.00 Season 2016 kicking into gear Wasn’t it great to have football back last weekend, both at AFL and TAC Cup level? While the next crop of future AFL talent was taking to the field in TAC Cup games throughout Victoria last weekend, it was a highlight of the Easter weekend to see eight draft ees debut in Round 1 of the AFL season – including 2015 Morrish Medal winner Clayton Oliver who claimed the first NAB AFL Rising Star nomination of the season aft er his 22-disposal debut for Melbourne. While the TAC Cup season started last weekend for the best U18 male talent across Victoria, last Monday saw the conclusion of a very successful Youth Girls Academy Challenge for the most promising U18 females across the state. Congratulations to the Dandenong Stingrays, who defeated the Sandringham Dragons in the finale to the month-long tournament. It is pleasing to see TAC support not only the next crop of elite U18 boys but also what will be the next crop of future female AFL footballers via the U18 Youth Girl Academies across eight regions. During the week we celebrated the launch of the Peter Jackson VFL and new VFL Women’s competition. With the launch of a national AFL women’s competition in 2017, it is exciting for AFL Victoria to launch the first VFL Women’s season this weekend. Also at the launch we looked back at the history of the TAC Cup competition, with last week signalling the beginning of its 25th season.

The nI ternational World of Sport and the Liability for Off-Field Indiscretions Abstract The recent terminations of the contracts of NRL player, Joel Monaghan and the AFL’s Brendan Fevola, for off-field indiscretions, has highlighted the significance of the bringing the game into disrepute clauses contained in standard player contracts. Tiger Woods’ extra-marital affairs received extensive world wide media attention, and the outcome of this negative coverage was the loss of millions of dollars in sponsorship deals. This indicates that such contracts can be terminated on the basis that a sportsperson’s behaviour was having a negative impact on the sponsor’s image. It is for the same reason that sponsors have put pressure on the governing bodies of team sports to take appropriate action for off-field indiscretions. The Court of Arbitration in D’Arcy v Australian Olympic Committee, has also held that a competitor’s behaviour in an incident where criminal charges were laid, may, in itself be sufficient to bring a sport, or themselves, into disrepute, regardless of whether the competitor is later found guilty or innocent.
