    Tony Curry proved himself to be the kind of man for whom the baseball world would step aside and allow him to pass, simply because he made it clear to everyone that he knew where he wanted to go, all the way to the top of his profession. His meteoric rise to great- ness surprised very few who knew him in the days of his youth for he always possessed the natural talent t hit and run with the best. Additionally, he always had the kind of metal disposition given to high level achievement. Tony was born in a tradition-rich sporting community, one which produced a stable of elite athlete n a varsity of disciplines. His high school days at St. Augustine’s College wit- nessed his growth and development into an outstanding and versatile athlete, to the de- gree that he qualified himself to be a starter on the Penny Bankers Baseball Club, an or- ganization which dominated local baseball from 1955 when it won the first of five champi- onships to 960 after which it assumed the new name I-Need-A-Laundry under which it continued its winning ways. He was one of most dominant hitters in history of The Bahamas Baseball Association, winning the Batting Championship in 1958. He was president of the Bahamas Baseball Association in its most productive years and was awarded the Commonwealth of The Ba- hamas Silver Jubilee Award for his contribution to the national development of sports.     Indians to celebrate AL pennant in home opener By Scott Merkin and Jordan Bastian / MLB.com | April 10th, 2017 While Indians manager Terry Francona wants his team focused on the season at hand, he also hopes the players take time on Tuesday to appreciate all that was achieved in last year's incredible run to the World Series. Prior to the Tribe's 4:10 p.m. ET home opener against the White Sox, the Indians will have a ring ceremony, a flag raising and a banner unveiling to celebrate the franchise's 2016 American League championship. It marked Cleveland's sixth pennant in team history, and the first since 1997. "Tuesday's going to be a fun day," Francona said. "It'll be the last time that we talk about last year, but I want our guys to enjoy it. I think the fans will and I know we will. It'll be a special day." As part of the team's "Rally Together" theme, Cleveland sports greats Jim Thome (Indians), Austin Carr (Cavaliers) and Jim Brown (Browns) will take part in the home opener's ceremonial first pitch. It will mark the Tribe's first time home since its extra-inning loss to the Cubs in Game 7 of the World Series. The 2017 club could be a better version of that highly acclaimed Cleveland team, a team the White Sox noticed from the very beginning last season.
