  • England Win USA Sevens
IV Wednesday 14th February, 2006 Sir Viv slams Lara’s absence England PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC): Former West Indies cricket captain Sir Vivian Richards is questioning Brian Lara’s absence from the forthcoming one-day international series in New Zealand. In a clear reference to the triple world record win USA holder being allowed to bypass the limited overs series in New Zealand, Sir Vivian told reporters at the Piarco International Airport where the Stanford Twenty/20 “Cheque Presentation Ceremony” was held Friday, that the West Indies should roster its best available team at all times. Sevens “I would like to have seen the best team in New Zealand, because presently we have not been hitting that note that we have been accus- tomed to hitting over the years, I am not going to single out anyone but you know what I am talk- ing about,” Sir Vivian said. Lighter workload The 36-year-old Lara is being given a lighter workload these days to preserve his career but Sir Vivian believes a New Zealand trip that usu- ally proves difficult for the Caribbean side requires the strongest team. “I would have really loved to see our best team in that part of the world, because we need our best players at this time,” Sir Vivian stated. The 53-year-old Antiguan, who captained a powerful and all-conquering West Indies team during the 1980s, also slammed the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for what he described as the inefficient manner in which they have carried out their administrative duties over the years.

There are also limited researches on this topic. However, tourism, as a new form of leisure activity, changed people’s living styles and contributed to the economy too tremen- dously to be ignored by the sociologists. This project studied tour- ists’ behaviour and perception towards Hong Kong Sevens, an inter- nationally renowned and successful sports event in Hong Kong. The- ories on tourist gaze by Urry & Larson were examined in the context of Hong Kong Sevens. What the gazes overseas and local spectators were, as well as a conjecture where the gazes are formulated, were discussed. 1 Acknowledgement I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Mr Robbie McRobbie of Hong Kong Rugby Football Union (HKRFU) and all his colleagues in HKRFU for offering me the op- portunity and supports to make this research project possible.

FIJI SPORTS HALL OF FAME The FIJI SPORTS HALL OF FAME was inaugurated in 990 by the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee, as an everlasting tribute to sportsmen and sportswomen of Fiji. The Hall of Fame acknowledges and honours Fiji’s super athletes who for over 65 years have competed in Fiji and abroad against the best in the world. Many have excelled and brought glory and fame to themselves, their sport and to Fiji as a nation and deserve to be recognized and remembered by the people of Fiji. FASANOC is able to provide the avenue for recognition of these great sportspeople through the Fiji Sports Hall of Fame that is currently based at Fiji Olympic House, Suva. Every year nominations are called for from National Sporting bodies and members of the general public. FASANOC is grateful to those who support this prestigious Awards recognition initiative. The selection of the successful candidates is always the responsibilty of an independant panel of judges, whose decision is final.
