In addition, the data ofobservation for several species wimessed but not caught are also presented. In tota1, 347 butterfly species are listed with biological information (habitat etc.) when available. KEY WORDS Lepidoptera! inventory1 tropical rainforesti species diversity1 species richness! insect fauna Introduction The primary lowland forests in the Southeast Asian (SEA) tropics are characterized by the extremely species-rich biodiversity (Whitmore 1998). Arthropod assemblages comprise the main part of the biodiversity in tropical rainforests (Erwin 1982, Wilson 1992). Many inventory studies have been done focusing on various arthropod taxa to reveal the species-richness of arthropod assemblages in SEA tropical rainforests (e.g. Holloway & lntachat 2003). The butterfly is one of the most studied taxonomic groups in arthropods in the SEA region; the accumulated information on the taxonomy and geographic distribution were organized by Tsukada & Nishiyama (1980), Yata & Morishita (1981), Aoki et al.

Prosiding Seminar Nasional Biologi dan Pembelajarannya Universitas Negeri Medan, 12 Oktober 2018 ISSN 2656-1670 PALATABILITAS KUPU-KUPU (LEPIDOPTERA: NYMPHALIDAE DAN PAPILIONIDAE) SEBAGAI PAKAN Tarsius fuscus DI PENANGKARAN PALATABILITY OF BUTTERFLIES (LEPIDOPTERA: NYMPHALIDAE AND PAPILIONIDAE Tarsius fuscus IN CAPTIVITY Indra A.S.L.P. Putri1 1Balai Penelitian dan Pengembangan Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan Makassar, e-mail: [email protected], Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan Km 16.5 Telp +62411504049 dan +62411504058, Makassar ABSTRACT Tarsius fuscus is an endemic animal of Sulawesi. It is a nocturnal primate, consuming insects in its natural habitat. However, palatability of Nymphalidae and Papilionidae butterflies families as the feed of Tarsius fuscus is unknown. The butterflies are available abundantly around the Tarsius’ captivity in the natural habitat of Tarsius fuscus, therefore they are a potential natural feeding for Tarsius fuscus. This study aims to determine the palatability of Nymphalidae and Papilionidae butterflies families as the feed for Tarsius fuscus. This information is important to provide natural feeding for Tarsius fuscus, to avoid the dependence of Tarsius fuscus on grasshopper feed in captivity. The palatability treatment used was free choice feeding methods. The diet was given ad- libitum. The results showed that 12 species of butterflies from Nymphalidae family and 9 species of butterflies from the Papilionidae family were palatable for the feed of Tarsius fuscus Keywords : diet, Tarsius fuscus, Lepidoptera, captivity ABSTRAK Tarsius fuscus merupakan salah satu satwa endemik Sulawesi.

In the Al-quran there are many verses that explain the animals that exist in this universe, one of which is about Insect. The research on Insect diversity around the Surabaya Undaan Park aims to describe the diversity of Insects and compare the number of members of each order in the Insect class around the Surabaya Undaan Park and look for their relevance to the Qur'anic proposition about the creation of Insects. The method used in this research assignment was observation, which was to go directly to the field to catch Insects in 5 plots in the vicinity of Surabaya Undakan Park with 4 repetitions in each plot, then collect data to be identified. Based on the results of observations, collection and identification, it can be found that there are various Insects in the area. This was evidenced by the discovery of various orders from Insectas, among others: Order Lepidoptera, Order Odonata, Order Hymenoptera, Order Diptera, and Order Orthoptera. Comparison of the number of species from each order is different. The most dominant number of species is in the order of Lepidoptera which was then followed by the order Hymenoptera.

The effectiveness of the system was studied by tak- ing photos of 165 insect species including some subspecies from museum collections (105 Coleoptera, 11 Hemi ptera (Pentatomidae), 12 Hymenoptera, 10 Lepidoptera, 9 Mantodea, 4 Odonata, 13 Orthoptera, 1 Phasmatodea) and 16 living insect species (1 Lepidoptera, 3 Mantodea, 4 Orthoptera, 8 Phasmato- dea), from which four are exemplarily pictured herein. The system is based on a modifi ed standard consumer DSLR camera (Canon Rebel XSi), which was altered for two-channel colour infrared photography. The camera is especially sensitive in the spectral range of 700-800 nm, which is well- suited to visualize small scale spectral differences in the steep of increase in refl ectance in this range, as it could be seen in some species. Several of the investigated species show at least a partial infrared refl ectance.

G. Talbot. Original from and digitized by National University of Singapore Libraries CATALOGUE OF THE TYPE SPECIMENS OF LEPIDOPTERA RHOPALOCERA IN THE HILL MUSEUM. By A. G. GABRIEL, F.E.S. INTRODUCTION BY G. TALBOT. It is important to know exactly where type specimens are to be found. The British Museum set an example by publishing catalogues of some of their Rhopalocera types, and we hope this will be continued. Mr. Gabriel, who was responsible for that work, has been asked by Mr. Joicey to prepare a catalogue for the Hill Museum. The original description of almost every name in this catalogue has been examined for the correct reference, and where the sex or habitat was wrongly quoted, the necessary correction has been made.

  • Tera: Papilionidae): Cladistic Reappraisals Using Mainly Immature Stage Characters, with Focus on the Birdwings Ornithoptera Boisduval
Bull. Kitakyushu Mus. Nat. Hist., 15: 43-118. March 28, 1996 Gondwanan Evolution of the Troidine Swallowtails (Lepidop- tera: Papilionidae): Cladistic Reappraisals Using Mainly Immature Stage Characters, with Focus on the Birdwings Ornithoptera Boisduval Michael J. Parsons Entomology Section, Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County 900 Exposition Blvd., LosAngeles, California 90007, U.S.A.*' (Received December 13, 1995) Abstract In order to reappraise the interrelationships of genera in the tribe Troidini, and to test the resultant theory of troidine evolution against biogeographical data a cladistic analysis of troidine genera was performed. Data were obtained mainly from immature stages, providing characters that appeared to be more reliable than many "traditional" adult characters. A single cladogram hypothesising phylogenetic relation ships of the troidine genera was generated. This differs markedly from cladograms obtained in previous studies that used only adult characters. However, the cladogram appears to fit well biogeographical data for the Troidini in terms of vicariance biogcography, especially as this relates to the general hypotheses of Gondwanaland fragmentation and continental drift events advanced by recent geological studies. The genus Ornithoptera is shown to be distinct from Troides. Based on input data drawn equally from immature stages and adult characters, a single cladogram hypothesising the likely phylogeny of Ornithoptera species was generated. With minor weighting of a single important adult character (male
