    Roots radical – Place, power and practice in punk entrepreneurship Sarah Louise Drakopoulou Dodd The significance continues to grow of scholarship that embraces critical and contextualized entrepreneurship, seeking rich explorations of diverse entrepreneurship contexts. Following these influences, this study explores the potentialized context of punk entrepreneurship. The Punk Rock band Rancid has a 20-year history of successfully creating independent musical and related creative enterprises from the margins of the music industry. The study draws on artefacts, interviews and videos created by and around Rancid to identify and analyse this example of marginal, alternative entrepreneurship. A three-part analytic frame was applied to analysing these artefacts. Place is critical to Rancid’s enterprise, grounding the band socially, culturally, geographically and politically. Practice also plays an important role with Rancid’s activities encompassing labour, making music, movement and human interactions. The third, and most prevalent, dimension of alterity is that of power which includes data related to dominance, subordination, exclusion, control and liberation. Rancid’s entrepreneurial story is depicted as cycles, not just a linear journey, but following more complicated paths – from periphery to centre, and back again; returning to roots, whilst trying to move forwards too; grounded in tradition but also radically focused on dramatic change. Paradox, hybridized practices, and the significance of marginal place as a rich resource also emerged from the study.     Value of YouTube to the music industry - Paper III - Promotion June 2017 RBB Economics 1 1 Introduction The music industry has undergone significant change over the past few years, with declining volumes of music sold through an ownership model (such as downloads) and rapid growth in usage models (such as streaming).1 While many services provide value to the recorded ​ music industry, in the 12 months to December 2016 one video streaming platform, YouTube, paid out over USD 1 billion to the music industry from advertising alone.2 YouTube claims that not only does it return money directly to creators, but also that it has a promotional effect on music.3 However, some commentators argue that YouTube has a negative impact on the music industry: paying insufficiently for content and cannibalising other services. RBB Economics has undertaken several empirical analyses in order to evaluate YouTube’s potential promotional or cannibalisation effects on the music industry in Europe. We analyse the results from 1,500 person user surveys carried out in each of four European countries, as well as data on YouTube views and streams on audio platforms of over 8,000 tracks across these countries over a three year period.4 In our first note we considered the evidence of cannibalisation by YouTube of other legitimate music services. ● Looking at survey evidence we found that significant cannibalisation is unlikely: users of music on YouTube are primarily lighter users, and if music videos were no longer shown on YouTube, 85% of users’ time would be lost or shifted to lower or similar value channels, and even to file sharing or piracy.

RUGGIE HARVARD UNIVERSITY 15 FEBRUARY 2017 I am deeply honored to have been asked to join you here this morning. And I wish you every success on your critical mission to promote socially sustainable supply chains. This subject could not be more important—for individual countries that participate extensively in global supply chains, and for the future of the open global economy itself. These vast and complex networks crisscrossing the world are the nexus between investment and trade. They are vulnerable today, and the global economy along with them. However, their effective management can turn them into significant leverage points to make globalization work better for all. Addressing this challenge requires the kind of collective leadership that only the G20 can provide. As in a volcano, a potential rupture has been building up steam for quite some time. As far back as January 1999, then UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan warned, in a World Economic Forum address, that unless globalization has strong social pillars it will be fragile—“vulnerable to backlash from all the ‘isms’ of our post-cold war world: protectionism; populism; nationalism; ethnic chauvinism; fanaticism; and terrorism.” He added that if we cannot make globalization work for all, in the end it will work for none. The philosophy acts as a unifying set of ideas for the organization of scientific knowledge in relation to all phases of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health, along with distinctive patient management principles. As such, its concepts form the foundation for practicing osteopathic medicine. Viewpoints and attitudes arising from osteopathic principles give osteopathic practitioners an important template for clinical problem solving and patient education. In the 21st century, this viewpoint is particularly useful as practitioners from a wide variety of disciplines confront increasingly complex physical, psychosocial, and spiritual problems affecting individuals, families, and populations from a wide variety of cultures and back- grounds. HOW IT ALL BEGAN Andrew Taylor Still (1828–1917) was an American frontier doctor who was convinced that 19th century patient care was severely inadequate. This resulted in an intense desire on his part to improve surgery, obstetrics, and the general treatment of diseases, placing them on a more rational and scientific basis. As his perspectives and clinical understanding evolved, Still created an innovative system of diagnosis and treatment with two major emphases.
