The Rebel Sport 3x3 Secondary Schools Tournament is finally here, and it’s bound to be a display of exciting on and off court performances, as players strive to get one under their belt. Huge congrats to the teams for making it here. Your commitment shows true dedication to the sport and you should be as proud as we are. We hope that when competing, you enjoy every moment—live the dream. To those in the stands supporting your teams, thank you. Your support is key to keeping the sporting spirit alive. Kia kaha, The Rebel Sport Squad #3X3CHAMPS 2 BASKETBALL NEW ZEALAND 2021 Rebel Sport Secondary Schools 3x3 Champs Welcome from Basketball New Zealand It is my pleasure to welcome you to this year’s Secondary Schools 3x3 Championships, which is by far the biggest 3x3 Champs since the inaugural event in 2014 – the rapid rise in team entries is impressive! This is the pinnacle event for school based 3X3 – each winning school (boy’s and girl’s) can claim the title of ‘Champion’ until they defend it at next year’s Champs. 3x3 is now an Olympic sport. It will debut at the Tokyo Olympics and then feature at every Olympics thereafter offering another opportunity for basketballers to achieve their Olympic dreams. The Champs contributes to the growing popularity of 3x3 Basketball and helps us develop and identify talent for international events such as the FIBA 3x3 Under 18 World Championships, the Youth Olympics and the FIBA Oceania Under 18 Championships. New Zealand has competed very successfully on the world stage in 3x3 and we aim to continue with that high standard. Have a great time, make new friends, enjoy the occasion, give it your best and you never know where the game may take you – it’s a truly global sport and it’s getting bigger and better here in New Zealand and around the world every year. To all participants – thank you for being part of this exciting event. Enjoy! Yours in basketball Iain Potter CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER nz.basketball/SS3x3Champs #3X3CHAMPS @basketballNZ #3X3CHAMPS 3 BASKETBALL NEW ZEALAND 2021 Rebel Sport Secondary Schools 3x3 Champs Welcome from Auckland Basketball Services Ltd. • A 40 Year History
New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Association National Secondary School Cross Country Championships A 40 Year History Introduction The New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Association is proud to publish a forty- year history of the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships. Participation in the event between 1974 and 2013 totals well over 10,000 athletes from all but a handful of schools from around the country. With an annual involvement of over 1000 students it has become one of the largest secondary school sporting events in New Zealand. The idea for this document was born during the 1995 NZSSCC Championships in Masterton. At this time (before the internet), results were published in a hard copy booklet. In this particular year the first three place getters in the individual, and three and six person team categories were published for the first twenty-one years of the events history. This accompanied the full set of 1995 results. After this event, the majority of results were published electronically. Unfortunately, many of these results were lost in the mid to late nineties because there was no dedicated NZSSAA website. Sincere thanks need to be given to Don Chadderton for providing the first twenty years’ of results. Without these early results a significant part of athletics New Zealand’s history would have eventually been forgotten. These include the 1974 performance of Alison Rowe, who would later go on to win both the 1981 Boston and New York marathons. As well as Burnside High School’s 1978 performance in the junior boys event where they completed the perfect three-man score of six points.

It’s certainly a time of excitement and interest as VNZ launches the NVL with an online draft format for our top men’s and women’s athletes on Monday April 26th. Coaches are busy reviewing the over 200 athletes that have registered for the draft. With confirmed venues in Auckland (YMCA, Auckland Central) for June 26-27 and Christchurch (Pioneer Stadium) July 10-11, this is a marvellous opportunity for the NZ community to see top volleyball in our own country and I encourage those living close to those centres to support our athletes and the event in person.
