[Orthoptera from Northwestern Amazonia: state of knowledge and open problems]. Abstract: The present state of knowledge of the Orthoptera from amazonian Ecuador is outlined: long-horned grasshoppers (Gryllidae and Tettigoniidae) have not been collected systematically, while short-horned grasshoppers (Acridoidea) have been sampled reasonably well. Some results on the bioacoustic diversity of singing long-horned grasshoppers are presented. Systematic, ethological and biogeographical data for the different subfamilies of short-horned grasshoppers are reviewed, current research projects scetched and open problems for future research are outlined. It is hypothesized that mountain forests at the eastern andean slopes are "present-day refuges" for a species-rich fauna of forest grasshoppers undergoing actual speciation. Resumen: Se bosqueja el estado actual del conocimiento de los ortópteros de la región amazónica del Ecuador: saltamontes y grillos (Gryllidae y Tettigoniidae) no han sido recolectados sistemáticamente, mientras que los acrídidos (Acridoidea) han sido bastante bien relevados. Se presentan algunos resultados de la diversidad bioacústica de los saltamontes y grillos cantores. Se presentan informaciones sistemáticas, etológicas y biogeográficas de las diferentes subfamilias de acrídidos, se bosquejan los proyectos de investigación actual y se delinean los problemas aún abiertos para investigaciones futuras. Se proporciona la hipótesis de que las montañas selváticas de las vertientes orientales andinas son refugios actuales para una fauna rica en especies de saltamontes selváticos que se hallan en un proceso de actual especialización. -

Wiemersiella gen. nov.: eine neue Dornschrecken gattung von Neuguinea 73 Entomologie heute 26 (2014): 73-85 Wiemersiella gen. nov.: eine neue Dornschrecken- gattung von Neuguinea (Orthoptera: Tetrigidae, Batrachideinae) Wiemersiella gen. nov.: a New Genus of Pygmy Grasshoppers from New Guinea (Orthoptera: Tetrigidae, Batrachideinae) JOSEF TUMBRINCK Zusammenfassung: Es wird eine neue Gattung der Ortopterenunterfamilie Batrachideinae von Neuguinea beschrieben: Wiemersiella gen. nov. Die Unterfamilie der Batrachideinae ist eindeutig durch die dorsal gefurchten Vorder- und Mittelschenkel gekennzeichnet (Abb. 1). Außerhalb der Neotropis (zwölf Gattungen) und von Afrika (zwei Gattungen) sind bislang vier Gattungen der Batrachideinae bekannt. Von Palaioscaria Grant, 1966 (GRANT 1966), der bislang einzigen bekannten Gattung von Neuguina, sowie von Saussurella Bolívar, 1887 (BOLÍVAR 1887) unterscheidet sich die neue Gattung durch die komplett fehlenden Flügel. Von Vingselina Sjöstedt, 1921 (SJÖSTEDT 1921) und Vilma Steinmann, 1973 (STEINMANN 1973) unterscheidet sich Wiemersiella durch das rostrad nach oben ausgezogene Pronotum. Die beiden hier neu beschriebenen Arten Wiemersiella highlandensis sp. nov. und Wiemersiella morobensis sp. nov. unterscheiden sich durch die längere Spitze des Pronotums und das verbreiterte Stirnscutellum mit gebogen verlaufenden Stirnseitenkielen (Abb. 12 und 13).
