This mesmerizing and enchanting new look at the classic musical is just your typical musical comedy – about hypnosis, a gay florist with commitment issues, a love triangle with a therapist, and past life as a 1940s chanteuse. On a Clear Day You Can See Forever runs May 13 – June 12, 2016. Opening Night is Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 8pm. Tickets are $30–50 and available at nctcsf.org or by calling (415) 861-8972. Directing the West Coast premiere is NCTC Founder & Artistic Director Ed Decker, with music direction by Matthew Lee Cannon, choreography by Jayne Zaban, and instrument arrangements by Ben Prince. On a Clear Day is the rare original musical that is not based on source material. It broke ground by dealing with paranormal and supernatural experience — past lives, reincarnation, ESP and the seemingly limitless power of the mind. The musical originally opened on Broadway in 1965, starring Barbara Harris as a chain smoker who can hear phones before they ring and make flowers grow before your eyes. -

The T.V. and cartoon industry can attest to this issue and the popularity of heroes such as He-Man, Superman and Wonderwoman have permeated generations of youngsters. All too often children meet with a patronizing attitude or contempt if they reveal their secret lives to the adults “in charge”. Fantasies are held in low esteem by adults who view them, and children are likely to wall off their real life from their secret made up one. This unit will deal with fantasies, feelings and self-image but more important it will zero in on how a literary message and a musical can influence the teaching of children in a classroom situation. Teachers are confronted by an age-old problem. Do we as educators use traditional methods to teach an English lesson, or can we incorporate the students’ spontaneity, creativity and direction to accomplish the same end? A strong drive in children is their need for approval. They seek adult approval first and secondly, peer approval. This need to be “liked” prefaces the term popularity . As children grow older, they develop a selectivity about them and it is here, between the early years and adulthood, that we deal with the marvelous mystery called “adolescence”. Any teacher who instructs at the Middle School level will readily understand my point. -

LERNER & LOEWE’S “MY FAIR LADY” TO RETURN TO BROADWAY NEXT SPRING PREVIEWS BEGIN THURSDAY, MARCH 22, 2018 OPENING NIGHT IS THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 2018 AT THE VIVIAN BEAUMONT THEATER Next spring, Lincoln Center Theater, in association with Nederlander Presentations Inc., will mount a new production of Lerner and Loewe’s MY FAIR LADY, the first Broadway production of the classic musical in 25 years. MY FAIR LADY, which will be directed by Bartlett Sher, will begin previews Thursday, March 22, 2018 and open on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 West 65 Street). Adapted from George Bernard Shaw’s play and Gabriel Pascal’s motion picture Pygmalion, MY FAIR LADY, with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe, premiered on Broadway on March 15, 1956. The legendary original production, directed by Moss Hart and designed by Oliver Smith and Cecil Beaton, starred Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews, won 6 Tony Awards including Best Musical, and ran for 2,717 performances, making it, at the time, the longest-running musical in Broadway history.
