OBITUARY

ROBERT WYTHE DAVIS (’55):

Retired Navy Captain Robert Wythe Davis of Williamsburg, died 7 February, 2016. The son of the late J.R. and Virginia Davis, he was born in Yorktown, Virginia on September 12, 1931. Captain Davis attended the College of William and Mary until the outbreak of the Korean War, and after serving a year in the Army, entered the U. S. Naval Academy, graduating in 1955.

In 1965, he graduated with a Master of Science degree in Management from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California. He later attended and graduated from both the Naval War College Command and Staff Course and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

During his 31 years as a Navy Supply Corps Officer, he had three sea tours (USS Vogelgesang (DD 862), USS Annapolis (AGMR 1), and Sixth Fleet Staff in USS Albany (CG 10)); five overseas assignments (Bermuda, Iceland, , , ), and served on a number of major staffs (NATO Forces Iceland, JCS, NAVSUP, Sixth Fleet, Naval Forces Japan, CINCUSNAVEUR). While on the Sixth Fleet Staff, he was the senior Supply Corps officer afloat. He also had two shore commands: NSD Yokosuka, Japan and NSD Cheatham Annex, Virginia. When he retired he was the senior U.S. Navy Supply Corps Captain on active duty.

During his service, he received the following awards: Legion of Merit with star (second award), the Meritorious Service Medal w/star, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal w/star, and The Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device.

Captain Davis is predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Marguerite Bozarth Davis of Williamsburg. He is survived by his second wife, Kimberly Nelson Davis; four children, and six grandchildren: son Robert Wythe Davis, Jr., his wife Kari, their daughter Kaitlin Lian, and son Robert Wythe III; daughter Marguerite Ellen Davis and husband Richard Warren and their son Davis Floyd Warren; son James Bryan Davis, and his sons River Grayson and Austen Torres; daughter Melissa Carol Wilson and her son Daniel James; a sister Mallory Davis Foster; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, Yorktown, Virginia at 10:00 on 20 February, 2016. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that contributions be sent to Jackson-Field Home for Girls, 546 Walnut Grove Drive, Jarratt, Virginia 23867-9989 or to the charity of your choice.
