TUESDAY 9 JULY TELEVISION & RADIO HIGHLIGHTS / BBC WEEK 28 ______

River City Tuesday 9 July BBC One Scotland HD, 8.00 – 9.00pm

This week in Shieldinch…the Mullens struggle to cope when faced with a police reconstruction of Cal’s disappearance; Jimmy takes matters into his own hands as Kelly-Marie and Lenny crack under pressure; and Gareth unwittingly uncovers a possible suspect. DCI Donald arrives at a sombre Mullen household on the day the police are staging a reconstruction of Cal’s disappearance. Still smarting about being suspects, Jimmy makes it clear the family aren’t convinced it’ll make any difference and Will starts to worry Kelly-Marie is struggling to hold it together. Led by DS Grant, the police urge the Shieldinch community to think back to Cal’s kidnapping and come forward with any information or any unusual people they saw at that time. This prompts Gareth who recalls meeting former prison mate Matty Rhodes in Shieldinch that day. Doubting Matty’s claims he was looking for a garage, Gareth asks Bob if he saw him – but draws a blank. Gareth then admits to Jimmy he thinks Matty - who has a grudge against Lenny - might have had motive and opportunity to snatch Cal. Desperate for answers, Jimmy joins Gareth in the hunt for Matty. During the reconstruction, Lenny’s tough façade starts to crack. Retracing her steps, Angela goes to Big Bob’s shop where he remembers a couple being there around the time of Cal’s kidnap. Realising it could be important evidence, she urges Big Bob to tell the police. And when Jimmy and Gareth finally catch-up with Matty, they take matters into their own hands to uncover the truth. But the Mullens’ ordeal is far from over.

Jimmy is played by Nilly McElhaney, Kelly-Marie by Carmen Pieraccini, Lenny by Frank Gallagher, Gareth by Paul Brannigan, DCI Donald by Robin Laing, Will by Scott Ryan Vickers, DS Grant by Therese Bradley, Matty by Carlo Lucchesi, Angela by Sue Devaney and Big Bob by Tom Urie.

Piper Alpha: Fire In The Night, Prog 1/1 NEW Tuesday 9 July BBC Two, 9.00 – 10.30pm

On the 25th anniversary of one of the world's worst offshore oil disasters, this documentary chronicles the tragic events that occurred on the Piper Alpha rig on the 6th of July 1988. It was a cataclysm that killed 167 men and left only 61 survivors, each of whom had to fight for their lives to escape the huge, labyrinthine structure and the flames that were consuming it. The film will also look at life on-board Piper Alpha before the explosion and also hears from survivors on how their life changed after the explosion. This 90-minute documentary will detail the experiences of the men who found themselves in the midst of an inferno that destroyed a rig which was, at one time, the world's single largest oil producer. There will be testimonies from those who survived, many of whom have never spoken publicly about the events before. The programme will also feature newly released recordings of the coastguards and emergency services as they reacted to the disaster. Some drama reconstructions will show how the disaster unfolded and the horror the men of Piper Alpha had to endure. Fire In The Night is an STV Productions film for BBC Scotland.
