The role of Communications and Outreach at NBMCA is to undertake corporate communications initiatives and provide internal support to the CAO and program staff to help raise awareness of NBMCA and our role as watershed managers, foster environmentally sustainable behaviours, and further the implementation of strategic priorities. Communications and outreach initiatives are developed with an integrated approach, based on a continuum of desired outcomes with our stakeholders – to inform, educate, dialogue, foster stewardship or advocate. Analysis: In 2017, Communications and Outreach initiatives, activities and/or support were provided in the following areas: NBMCA Corporate: Energy East Pipeline Proposal Reviews Grant Application Reviews Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Health & Safety 24/7 Policy and SOP reviews Act (AODA) training and reporting Municipal Conference Staff Orientation Package Watershed Report Card Issues Management Communication Strategies CanadaHelps.org Conservation Ontario Statistics Annual Review CA Act Review Public Inquiries (90 general emails) Corporate Communications: Media relations: 40 media releases / 203 media mentions (print, radio, tv, web) and media assistance Monitor Ontario Gov’t News Feed and Google Alerts for issues/opportunities Five websites: nbmca.ca / actforcleanwater.ca / chippewaecopath.ca / mattawarivercanoerace.ca / restoreyourshore.ca Five social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, You Tube) monitor, post and develop infographics for campaigns and social media calendar Advertising for employment, directories, public consultations and/or policy changes Branding of print and digital materials Video and photography …2 Communications & Outreach Update – February 28, 2018 Outreach Mattawa River Canoe Race Hikes, educational events & tours (Eau Claire Gorge, others) Chippewa Creek EcoPath Steering Committee, Adopt-the-Creek Program, Berry Patch, “Turtle” and outreach to Indigenous Community North Bay Science Fair First Lego Robotics Competition Home/trade shows (East Ferris and North Bay) Louise de Kilrene Lawrence Nature Festival Liaise with various environmental non-government organizations Student Awards – Nipissing University, Canadore College, Specialist High Skills Major Program Support Media training, powerpoint presentations, “plain language” reviews as required DWSP: MOECC Website Audit, Municipal Conference, ICA Workplan, SPP Municipal Reporting (Trial), Callander ICA Outreach Planning & Development & Onsite Sewage: Reg & Policy Committee, Public Notices, DIA Awareness, Mandatory Maintenance Inspection Property Owner Info Packages, Professional Engineers Day, Flood Notices, Snow Survey reporting Field Operations: LECA Trails Proposal, Love ‘em and Leash ‘em, Cons Area and Stewardship Signage, Near North District School Board Great Lakes Partnership, Motus fundraising and signage, Route Champlain, Restore Your Shore promotion For upcoming 2018 initiatives, please see attached report.
