Galilee and Golan This tour gives an amazing overview of the north east of the country. Expect green fields, beautiful countryside, streams and lakes. You will make your way to the northern Golan Heights and end up at the Sea of Galilee. On the way, you will enjoy amazing antiquities, drink fine wine and visit some of the most important Christian sites in the world.

Day by Day

Day 1 Arrival at Odem/Masade, North Golan

Make you own way to this village, where your bike and maps will be waiting for you. Public transport available from Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Day 2 Alonei Habashan- 50km 550m

Ride north with views of Mt. Hermon (you might see some snow) and tour the fascinating Nimrod fortress. On your way south, stop for some tasty falafel in the Druze village of Mas ade , and watch the locals in their traditional dress. Circle the volcanic lake of Ram, ride through the Odem forest, and visit adormant volcano. Ride or walk to the mountain top of Bental , with panoramic views, and enjoy a coffee. This was the site of a fierce battle in the 1973 Yom Kippur War, and you can walk through the bunkers and feel history. Continue riding to your guesthouse.

Day 3 Katzrin/ Qatsrin 58 km 700m

Start the day with a rolling downhill moving southwest. You can make a morning stop for a gourmet coffee and cake at Kidmat Zvi , and also a wine tasting at the vineyard (this is the premier wine region of Israel). Continue downhill, enjoying the views over the Jordan river. Then ride to the Sea of Galilee, which is located in the famous Rift Valley and is at 200 m below sea level. On the way, you can make a stop at the Jordan Nature Reserve and see how the river flows into the Sea of Galilee. The day ends with a long uphill to your guesthouse.

Day 4 Sea of Galilee (east) 42/69 km 450/550m

Ride to the Aniam artisan village, where you can visit some interesting galleries and enjoy a coffee break. Ride south and see Rugum el Hiri , Israel’s Stonehenge ””, a large circle of basalt rocks. Tour the Gamla Nature Reserve and see Israel s highest waterfall and the impressive ruins of a town from the 2nd temple period. Choose the short or long cycling option to reach your hotel.

Day 5 Sea of Galilee(west) 38km 400m

Today is filled with some magical Christian sites. We circle the Sea of Galilee and have the option of a steep uphill to the Korazim National Park, where we can see an impressive 4th century synagogue. Ride

down to the lake and visit Capernaum and the Church of St. Peter at Tabgha . The churches are beautiful and especially moving, against the background of the Sea of Galilee. From here, we can take a short but steep walk uphill to the Mount of Beatitudes, site of the Sermon on the Mount, with panoramic views over the lake. Consider a boat ride on the lake after lunch, or visit the amazing excavation at Magdala, home of Mary Magdalene

Day 6 Departure

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast with a view over the Sea of Galilee. Say farewell to your bike and get ready for a taxi or bus ride to Tiberias.

Route

300 km of desert trails. All riding is on roads but rental bikes are hardtail mountain bikes to allow for riding on the trails as well.
