In 1976 the first vines were planted in the Golan, and in 1983 the then-newly- established Golan Heights Winery released its first wines. Almost overnight it became apparent that Israel was capable of producing wines of world-class quality... the revolution had begun and there was no turning back.

…The young winery imported excellent vine-stock from California, built a state-of- the-art winery, and added to this the enthusiasm and expertise of young American winemakers who had been trained at the University of California at Davis…

…The Golan wines were a success from the beginning, not only within Israel but abroad. This success had a great impact on other Israeli wineries, which have made major steps in improving the quality of their wines. There are now five major wineries, twelve medium-sized wineries and a host of small wineries in the country, many of which are producing wines that are of high quality, and several producing wines good enough to interest connoisseurs all over the world.”
