He gained his PhD from London University's School of Oriental and African Studies, where his mentors included John Bastin and CD Cowan. He is an internationally recognised authority on the sugar industry of colonial Indonesia, with many publications to his name. Among the latest is Commodities and Colonialism: The Story of Big Sugar in Indonesia, 1880-1940, published by Brill in Leiden and Boston in 2013. He is currently working on a 'business biography' — based on scores of his newly discovered letters back home — of Gillian Maclaine, a young Scot who was active as a planter and merchant in colonial Java during the 1820s and 1830s.     ABN AMRO Historisch Archief RotteRdAmscHe BAnk, 1863-1964 A false start, 1863-1911 Rotterdamsche Bank was founded in Rotterdam on May merger by taking over the old Amsterdam brokers 16, 1863 by a group of businessmen and bankers. One of Determeijer Weslingh & Zn. (est. 1765). This move caused them was Marten Mees, a partner in R. Mees & Zoonen, quite a shock in Dutch financial circles on account of the who thus unwittingly created a formidable rival for his traditional rivalry between the cities of Amsterdam own Rotterdam bank. The founders sought to establish and Rotterdam. Two years later Robaver took over a credit institution modelled on Britain’s Colonial Bank to Amsterdam-based Labouchere, Oyens & Co.’s Bank, meet the growing borrowing requirements of companies successor to Ketwich & Voombergh of 1790. This was operating in the Dutch East Indies. These plans proved followed in 1915 by the acquisition of Nationale Bank of The Hague. Numerous local banks were added to the list of acquisitions. Within just a few years, Robaver grew more than it had done in the first fifty years of its existence, and became one of the largest banks in the country. These moves by Robaver triggered a process of concentration and amalgamation among the commercial banks in the Netherlands, which was in keeping with a similar development in trade and industry. But it heralded the demise of many of the smaller banks. to be too ambitious and loss-making and all East Indian branches were consequently closed down. Along with other banks including R. Mees & Zoonen, Rotterdamsche Bank suffered heavy losses in the so-called Pincoffs Affair of 1879 and after licking its wounds confined its activities to Rotterdam and the surrounding area.

GENERAL REVIEW After H.E. the President decreed the re-institution of the Constitution of 1945 on July 5, 1959, the Republic of Indonesia in fact, reverted to the philosophy of the “Pantjasila” (Five Principles), born amidst the Revolution, but deviated from during these last few years. The main principles revolved around the ideas of “gotong rojong” (mutual co-operation) and “kekeluargaan” (family principle), inherently national traits, which continued to live even during the colonization period of more than three centuries. These core philosophies of ‘gotong rojong” and “kekeluargaan” ultimately crystal- lized in the present concept of “Guided Democracy”. Subsequently these changes in philosophic outlook and political concept called also for modifications in the economic field. Our economy, being an inheritance of the 19th century freefight liberalism — instead of being anchored in definite concepts logically arising from the national traits— so far remained exposed to cyclical forces and now had necessarily to be aligned to the philosophic and political concepts given form and substance already by the 1945 Con- stitution, i.e. in its general form in article 33. The words “guided economy”— Guided Economy being our present foun dat- ion—vary in meaning and content in capitalist and communist countries.

E-mail: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] Received: 11.03.2020 Revised: 12.04.2020 Accepted: 28.05.2020 ABSTRACT: The history of banking in Indonesia can be answered in the following periods: 1) Period of Dutch colonial until Japanese occupation era (1827 - 8 March 1942). 2) Period of Japanese occupation until the Proclamation of Independence (8 March 1942 - 17 August 1945). 3) The Independence Period until the New Order year (Proclamation of 17 August 1945 until the issuance of the Banking Act of 1967/ 31 December 1967. 4) Period of banking after 31 December 1967. The Dutch colonial era in Indonesia arguably began in 1602, the establishment of VOC (Verenigde Oost Indische Companij). From the 19th century to 1942 (during the Japanese occupation), banks in Indonesia could be classified as follows: Netherlands-owned banks, England- owned banks, Chinese-owned banks, Japanese-owned banks and Native-owned banks. INTRODUCTION The Dutch East Indies government experienced various monetary difficulties as a legacy from the "Raffles administration" which ruled Indonesia for several years (1811-1816). The money circulating at that time was issued by the government. On 11 October 1827, De Javasche Bank was founded with first capital of one million guilders.

Para bankir Florence pada masa Renaisans melakukan transaksi mereka dengan duduk di belakang meja penukaran uang. Hal ini berbeda dengan pekerjaan kebanyakan orang yang tidak memungkinkan mereka untuk duduk sambil bekerja. Pengertian bank, menurut UU RI Nomor 10 Tahun 1998 tanggal 10 November 1998 tentang perbankan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa usaha perbankan meliputi tiga kegiatan, yaitu menghimpun dana, menyalurkan dana, dan memberikan jasa bank lainnya. Kegiatan menghimpun dan menyalurkan dana merupakan kegiatan pokok bank, sedangkan memberikan jasa bank lainnya hanya kegiatan pendukung. Kegiatan menghimpun dana berupa mengumpulkan dana dari masyarakat dalam bentuk simpanan giro, tabungan, dan deposito. Biasanya sambil diberikan balas jasa yang menarik, seperti bunga dan hadiah sebagai rangsangan bagi masyarakat. Kegiatan menyalurkan dana berupa pemberian pinjaman kepada masyarakat. Sementara itu, jasa-jasa perbankan lainnya diberikan untuk mendukung kelancaran kegiatan utama bank. Bank pertama kali didirikan dalam bentuk seperti sebuah firma pada tahun 1690. Pada saat itu, Kerajaan Inggris berkemauan merencanakan membangun kembali kekuatan armada lautnya untuk bersaing dengan kekuatan armada laut Prancis.

    Kunjungan PDSPK Kemendikbud, yang dalam hal ini diwakili oleh Noorman Sambodo, S.Kom dan Fitri Sumairawati, S.Psi ke Dinas Pendidikan kota Tegal. Kami bertemu dengan Ibu Nur Vera Zenina, S.Kom , selaku Kasubag Umum dan Program di Dinas Pendidikan Kota Tegal, mengatakan bahwa di Kota Tegal banyak potensi cagar budaya yang ada dikarenakan peninggalan bangunan dari jaman belanda. Sementara ini sudah ditetapkan dengan penetapan daerah. Kota tegal juga berencana untuk membangun Museum Kebudayaan yang akan berisi kebudayaan lokal khas Kota Tegal, seperti baru-baru ini ditetapkan dua tarian khas Kota Tegal. Pertemuan selanjutnya dengan Sekretaris Dinas, Mochammad Mashar, A.h.T, yang membahas indikator APK APM, dikarenakan Kota Tegal sebagai kota yang banyak dijumpai oleh siswa siswi yang berasal dari daerah luar Kota Tegal. Info yang kami dapat mengenai acara kebudayaan adalah 18 April 2018 mendatang merupakan hari jadi Kota Tegal, yang mana akan diselenggarakan banyak acara yang berpusat di alun-alun Kota Tegal, seperti “Jateng Gayeng” yang merupakan pertunjukan ketoprak jawa dimana pejabat provinsi Jawa Tengah seperti Gubernur, Pejabat dari Dinas Pendidikan Dinas Pariwisata, DPRD maupun Sekda Kota Tegal akan menjadi aktor lakon pagelaran tersebut. Lalu akan ada “Tegal Tempoe Doeloe”, yang rencana akan diadakan akhir April dimana akan ada bangunan yang berisi oleh kuliner tradisional dan permainan tradisional yang akan tersaji disana. Selain itu akan ada Wayang Spektakuler yang merupakan kolaborasi dari 9 Dalang dari Kota Tegal yang akan mengisi pertunjukkan tersebut. PDSPK Kemendikbud sedang berada di ruang sidang dari Dinas Pendidikan Kota Tegal, melakukan sosialisasi APK APM dan verval stat dan membahas indikator yang berasal dari data dapodik.

GENERAL REVIEW Inflation, the always threatening danger to economic development both in highly developed and in underdeveloped countries, in so-called capitalistic as well as in socialist countries, grew rampant in Indonesia during the report year 1958/ l959. The volume of money circulation increased from Rp 18.9 billion at the end of 1957 and Rp 19.6 billion per March 31, 1958 to Rp 29.3 billion at the end of 1958 and about Rp 29.9 billion per March 31, l959. The above figures show a rise by 50%. This meant an increase of purchasing power by the same proportion which, employed to the full, was bound to generate rising prices, unless it would have been possible to increase production, stock of goods and services by 50%. Obviously this could not be realized in Indonesia as it would have been impossi- ble anywhere, because inflation generally rises at a faster rate than production can be stepped up, in the end even hampering production. On account of heavy pres- sures on the balance of payments, increasing stocks of goods and/or services through imports could not be done either.

As a number of scholars have noted over the last few decades, this needs to be heavily revised on several major counts. Nonetheless, the implications of such revision for an understanding of European mercantile activity in mid-nineteenth century Java have been slow to seep through.
