• Nike Inc. (88), Precision Castparts Corp. (282) and Lithia Motors (318).

• Intel Corporation, the metro’s largest employer, is one of the world’s largest and highest valued semiconductor chip makers.

• Following Intel’s lead, Google, eBay, Yahoo, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Xerox, Apple, Microsoft and Amazon – nearly all the biggest names in technology have employees in the Portland area.

Athletics & Outdoor Companies

700 Firms in the A&O Industry Portland has the highest concentration of Athletic and Outdoor companies in the nation. These firms range from giants like Nike, Under Armour, Columbia Sportswear and Adidas to hundreds of small to medium size players. Columbia Sportswear is nearing 6,000 employees, a 43% increase from five years ago, about a thousand people work at Columbia’s Northwest Portland headquarters. Nike is currently expanding their Beaverton headquarters by 1.35M square feet. Company management stunned onlookers last fall when it pledged to grow annual sales from $30B to $50B by 2020.

16 JLL Portland Transportation Network

Air Portland International Airport (PDX) is located 15 miles northeast of the city center. PDX, rated the nation’s best airport for the last five years by Condé Nast Traveler, serves more than 19M air travelers annually. Passenger carriers provide nonstop service to 41 domestic destinations and four international cities. Portland’s MAX light rail system connects passengers from the airport to downtown in less than 40 minutes. PDX also features a significant air cargo facility with 11 air cargo carriers, and serves as a major hub for FedEx and UPS, which combine to account for roughly two-thirds of all freight tonnage handled.

Marine The Port of Portland directs one of the most comprehensive and well- managed transportation complexes in the Pacific Northwest including both marine and air terminals. The Port’s four operating marine terminals, including the largest floating dry dock on the West Coast, are well served by the area’s rail and highway transportation network. Portland is the fourth largest deepwater port by volume on the West Coast behind Los Angeles, Long Beach and Seattle. It also has the distinction of leading the nation in wheat exports and the third largest auto import port on the West Coast, with Toyota and Honda as the largest operators.

Roads I-5 is the main north-south route from Canada to Mexico, connecting Seattle, Portland, Sacramento, Los Angeles and San Diego. I-84 is the principal route east from Portland to Salt Lake City, the Midwest and East Coast. Regional Bus, Light Rail and Streetcar: Portland’s public transportation system is highly praised and serves the 574 square miles comprising the Portland metro area. The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (“TriMet”) oversees the comprehensive transit network that includes 92 bus lines, an approximate 44-mile, 63-station MAX light rail system and the Westside Express Service (WES), a 14.7-mile commuter rail line between Beaverton and Wilsonville. The light rail system handles over 110,000 rides per day, in addition to the 100 plus bus routes providing over 160,000 daily rides.
