The South-eastern Anatolia Project (GAP) has been implemented in the southeast part of Turkey, covering 9 provinces and the two most important rivers of Turkey. The main purpose of this gorgeous project is to uplift the income level and living standards of people in the region, to remove the inter-regional development disparities and to contribute to the national goals of economic development and social stability. The cost of the project is 32 billion USD consisting of 13 sub-projects in the river basins of Euphrates and Tigris. The project has evolved over time and has become multi sectoral, integrated and human based on the sustainable regional development. Upon the fully completion of the project, 1.8 Million hectares of land will be able to be irrigated in Euphrates and Tigris Basins through surface and underground water resources. From 1995 until now, 273.000 ha. of land have already been irrigated within the GAP Project. Roughly 739,000 ha. of this land will be irrigated from Atatürk Dam, the largest dam of GAP Project. At present, nearly ¼ of this area is under irrigation. Some technological developments have been experienced in the Project area, ranging from upstream controlled schemes having trapezoidal section, lined or unlined, to upstream controlled schemes having high pressurized piped system; and from conventional methods to drip irrigation method. -

The Mala River and its importance according to Hittite documents Yasernin Ankan Ankara The concepts of "location", "climate", and "human" are of great significance for historical geography. Among these, "location" in particular has taken a determining role in the formation of states. In Mesopotamia, located between the Tigris and the Euphrates, and in Egypt, in the valley of Nile, first states were established. Human beings have altered environmental factors such as climate, water, topography, and geographic features as much as possible in order to create their cultural-geographical structures. Therefore "natural borders" i.e. rivers, mountain ranges, coastal areas, deserts, and marshlands gain historical importance as geographic factors. After settling within the arc of the KlZllIrmak River that was the core of their territory, the Hittites pursued an expansionist policy initially to protect their land, and then to increase their economic power, develop their state, dominate larger areas of land, and thus become a major political power. Their intention was to reach "natural boundaries" and then keep this area under their domination. From the time of the Old Hittite period expansion was directed primarily to the southeast of the core region-towards the Euphrates river- and this remained a consistent policy of the Hittites throughout their history. The Euphrates, which can be considered a natural boundary in Anatolia, is a 2800 km long river that arises in eastern Anatolia, passes into the lands of Syria and Iraq, combines with the Tigris River to form the Shatt aI-Arab, and flows into the Persian Gulf. The Euphrates has very long tributaries with powerful currents. -

The zooplankton samples were collected by using plankton net with the mesh size of 55µm horizontally and preserved in 4% formaldehyde. Total 22 taxa (16 Rotifera, 4 Cladocera, and 2 Copepoda) were identified in Kiğı Dam Lake. Ascomorpha saltans, Asplanchna priodonta, Brachionus angularis, Cephalodella gibba, Euchlanis dilatata, Kellicottia longispina, Keratella cochlearis, Keratella quadrata, Lecane luna, Lecane lunaris, Notholca squamula, Polyarthra dolichoptera, Rotaria rotatoria, Synchaeta pectinata, Synchaeta oblonga, Trichocerca capucina from Rotifera species; Bosmina longirostris, Chydorus sphaericus, Daphnia cucullata, Daphnia longispina from Cladocera species; Acanthodiaptomus denticornis, Cyclops vicinus from Copepoda species are new records for this dam lake. Zooplankton samples were consisted of 72.7% Rotifera, 18.2% Cladocera, and 9.1% Copepoda. Keywords: Kiğı Dam Lake, species distribution, zooplankton. In this study, Cr, Ni and Zn levels were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry in edible muscle and skin tissues of Cyprinus carpio in Çamlıgöze Dam Lake located at Central Anatolian region of Turkey. The maximum levels were found to be 0.12 (Cr), 2.15 (Ni), 0.51 (Zn) µg/g in the muscle and 0.15 (Cr), 2.07 (Ni), 1.97 (Zn) µg/g in the skin of Cyprinus carpio. It was determined that Ni was the highest metal in tissues. The highest Cr and Zn levels were determined in the skin of Cyprinus carpio, whereas the highest Ni levels were measured in the muscle. The heavy metal accumulation orders for the tissues were as follows: Ni>Zn>Cr in Çamlıgöze Dam Lake. There was important statistical differences, especially at the level of zinc accumulation in tissues (p<0.001). There was a significant and positive correlation between age, total length, weight and metal levels for Cr (r>0.25, p<0.05) in the muscle and skin of Cyprinus carpio in Çamlıgöze Dam Lake. -

After determining sex distribution, size (length and weight), growth rates, and growth conditions factors of 210 C. trutta specimens were examined. The number of female and male specimens was 104 and 106, respectively. The age of females and males ranged between 1-7 and 0-7 years, respectively. The age-length, age-weight, and length-weight curves were constructed. According to the von Bertalanffy equation, females and males were: -0.0571(t+2.4138)) 0.0571(t+2.4238)) 3.0325 Lt = 89.5[1-e ], Wt = 9627.1[1-e ] -0.0604(t+2.6514)) 0.0604(t+2.6514)) 2.9322 Lt = 76.4[1-e ], Wt = 5207.2[1-e ] , respectively . The calculated length-weight relation (W) was 0.0116 L3.0325 for females and 0.0115 L2.9322 for males. The average growth condition factor was 1.30 ± 0.06 for females and 1.28 ± 0.05 for males. The reproductive characteristics of C. trutta female specimens were investigated. According to gonadosomatic index (IG) results the development of egg diameter was determined for a spawning period in May and June. It was found that maturity age of the specimens was 2 and 3. The maximum diameter of ripe eggs was 1.04 mm and the maximum number of eggs per gram of gonads was 666. -

The danger of conflict of water is especially severe in the Middle East which is characterized by the low level of precipitation and high temperatures. The Middle Eastern countries have been involved in a constant state of political tension and the gap between the growing number of inhabitants and the fixed supply of water and land has been a factor in contributing to this tension. -

Abstract Turkey is a very rich country in terms of water resources. However, in order to use these resources efficiently, water must be stored safely. In this context, the best form of storage is the construction of dams. In our country, large dams, which are among the world's important dams, are being built. Although there are many advantages of large dams, the loss of life and property will be so great in case of a possible deformation or destruction. The fact that dams are under the influence of various forces, as well as being located in the earthquake zone of our country, necessitates continuous monitoring of our dams. Dams are generally monitored using geodetic methods and geotechnical devices. However, mostly details of these two methods are evaluated separately in dam monitoring. Evaluating the results of both methods together is very important for the comprehensive monitoring of the dam and the correct interpretation of possible deformations. In this study, large dams in our country and monitoring studies carried out by using geodetic and geotechnical methods in these dams are given in detail. 1 MARDİN FROM TALES TO LEGENDS 2 künye 3 MARDİN FROM TALES TO LEGENDS 4 Introduction Mesopotamia is among those few names in the world that almost everyone is familiar with. Think of a region that is the birthplace of many tools, philosophies, systems and religions. Think of a region that so much that it pioneered has been adopted throughout the world and has played such an important role in shaping everyday lives. Imagine a place which witnessed so much for the first time: first writing system, first state, first city, first water irrigation sysems, first law and many more. Mardin situated right at the centre of this incredibly rich region can therefore be seen as a fortunate city, blessed in history. It has Anatolia on one side and Mesopotamia on the other, an ancient region which transported so many innovations that had originated in the Middle East to the western world. Despite the common assumption, the word Mesopotamia is not of Middle Eastern origin. It comes from the ancient Greek root words mesos (middle) and potamia (rivers) literally meaning “(land) between rivers.” It is curious that although writing was introduced in the region almost 3000 years earlier than in Greece, the region’s name is of Greek origin rather than a Middle Eastern language. In Syriac, Mesopotamia is called Beth Nahrin. Composed of the words beth (house, land) and nahrin (two rivers), it literally means “the land of/between two rivers.” Based on this, it can be deduced that the region was named not by the Greek civilizations of the west but by the people of the region themselves.
