At recent meetings of the Parish Pastoral Council and the Parish Finance Committee it was proposed to sell Kilnavart Parochial House and transfer ownership of Holy Trinity Church, Kildoagh to Templeport Development Association. St. Patrick's Church, Drumalee, Belturbet, is celebrating its 150th Anniversary this September. In its 150 year history, it has served several generations, both past and present of the natives of Belturbet and its many surrounding townlands. To mark this occasion, a celebration will be held in St. Patrick's Church, Drumalee today, Sunday 9th September 2018 at 3.00pm. Join us in this special celebration to mark this magnificent milestone. St Mogue's Church Choir will be back to sing at the 11am mass in St Mogue's Church, Bawnboy, today Sunday 9th September. Anyone with a singing voice is urged to please join as it contributes greatly to the Liturgy. Parish Participation in Charitable Donation Scheme: Many thanks to those who have returned their Tax Rebate forms (CHY3 Form). It’s still not late to return a form. Anyone who pays tax and has contributed more than €250 to the parish last year is eligible may participate. This applies to both PAYE and Self Employed tax payers. In fact it is possible for the parish to back claim for the last 5 years. Spare forms are available in the porch. All that is required is for you to sign the form and fill in your PPS number. We will do all the rest. Those planning to return their form are kindly asked to return it as soon as possible either by using the boxes provided in the church porches or by placing it in the collection basket. If you have mislaid your form there are extra forms in the porch. The Poor Clares in Galway are hosting a Cloister day on Saturday, September 22nd from 10am to 5pm. The day is designed to help young women between the ages of 21 and 40 to find out more about the Poor Clare way of life with a view to vocation discernment.     Mainly Ulster families – “B” series – Smythe-Wood Newspaper Index Irish Genealogical Research Society Dr P Smythe-Wood’s Irish Newspaper Index Selected families, mainly from Ulster ‘SERIES B’ The late Dr Patrick Smythe-Wood presented a large collection of card indexes to the IGRS Library, reflecting his various interests, - the Irish in Canada, Ulster families, various professions etc. These include abstracts from various Irish Newspapers, including the Belfast Newsletter, which are printed below. Abstracts are included for all papers up to 1864, but excluding any entries in the Belfast Newsletter prior to 1801, as they are fully available online. Dr Smythe-Wood often found entries in several newspapers for the one event, & these will be shown as one entry below. Entries dealing with RIC Officers, Customs & Excise Officers, Coastguards, Prison Officers, & Irish families in Canada will be dealt with in separate files. In most cases, Dr Smythe-Wood has recorded the exact entry, but in some, marked thus *, the entries were adjusted into a database, so should be treated with more caution. There are further large card indexes of Miscellaneous notes on families which are not at present being digitised, but which often deal with the same families treated below.     CAVAN WALKS GUIDE Welcome to the Cavan County Walks Guide County Cavan is a walker’s paradise, with a wide variety of walks for all fitness levels and abilities. There are rambling country lanes, winding forest tracks, breathtaking mountain roads, and tranquil lake shore paths, all within easy reach. The walks are suitable for most people who are relatively fit and should be within the capabilities of most. However, all walks have been graded according to their level of difficulty and an explanation of this is given below. Easy: Generally flat trails with some gentle slopes. They can be described as ‘muscle looseners’ and can be walked in runners or other similar light footwear. Moderate: These trails can be described as ‘muscle stretchers’. The going underfoot can be poor or rough with some obstacles such as protruding roots or loose stones. Boots or strong walking shoes are generally required. Strenuous: These are physically demanding trails and can be described as ‘muscle builders’. They may have moderately steep climbs for long sections. The going underfoot can be extremely rough and can include many obstacles. All walks are waymarked and have information and map panels to assist with navigation. 1 CAVAN WALKS GUIDE The Countryside Code When walking in the countryside, always remember that you may be walking through someone’s workplace. Careless behaviour such as leaving farm gates open, can cause great problems for farmers. Litter of any description can cause serious damage to livestock and wildlife alike. A little thought and common sense can ensure a good relationship between the farmer, the local community and the visitor.
