Mainly Ulster families – “B” series – Smythe-Wood Newspaper Index Irish Genealogical Research Society Dr P Smythe-Wood’s Irish Newspaper Index Selected families, mainly from Ulster ‘SERIES B’ The late Dr Patrick Smythe-Wood presented a large collection of card indexes to the IGRS Library, reflecting his various interests, - the Irish in Canada, Ulster families, various professions etc. These include abstracts from various Irish Newspapers, including the Belfast Newsletter, which are printed below. Abstracts are included for all papers up to 1864, but excluding any entries in the Belfast Newsletter prior to 1801, as they are fully available online. Dr Smythe-Wood often found entries in several newspapers for the one event, & these will be shown as one entry below. Entries dealing with RIC Officers, Customs & Excise Officers, Coastguards, Prison Officers, & Irish families in Canada will be dealt with in separate files. In most cases, Dr Smythe-Wood has recorded the exact entry, but in some, marked thus *, the entries were adjusted into a database, so should be treated with more caution. There are further large card indexes of Miscellaneous notes on families which are not at present being digitised, but which often deal with the same families treated below. ACHESON: [BNL, Jun 1843*] Charles Acheson, of Kincitt, was married to Frances, daughter of William Park of Glenglisk, on 8 Jun 1843, by Rev Matthew Clarke, Ardstraw. ACHMUTY: see CHAPLIN ACTON: [CNR, 27 Feb 1839*] Frances, eldest daughter of the late John Acton Esq, MD, Surgeon RN, was married on 21 Feb 1839, in the Church of Turlough, by the Rev Brabazon Ellis, to Lionel F, 3rd son of the late Captain Semple of Turlough. ADAMS: [BNL, 14 Feb 1832] On the 2nd inst, Mr Wm Chain of Aughnavalig to Elenor, eldest daughter of Mr Alexander Adams, of the Valley, near Kate’s Bridge. ADAMS: [SNL, Thu 22 Jan 1852*] Eliza, widow of Captain David Jenifer Adams of Philadelphia on the Delaware, died 20 Jan 1852 in Bolton Street, Dublin, aged 70 years. ADAMS: [BNL, Oct 1841*] Mary, 4th daughter of Mathew Adams of Portglenone, was married on 16 Sep 1841, by Rev Robert Allen, to William Park. ADAMS: [BNL, Jul 1840*] Elizabeth, eldest daughter of the late William Adams, was married at Portglenone on 15 Jul 1840 to Rev William McClintock Wray, son of John Wray. Ceremony performed by Rev John Wray. AGLE: [BNL, 12 Sep 1828*] Anna, eldest daughter of George Agle of Newry, was married to John Woods on 5 Sep 1828 in St Mary’s Church, Newry, By Rev Charles Campbell. [BNL, Fri 17 Apr 1835*] Mrs Isabella Agle, wife of George Agle, & grandmother to John White Woods, died 6 Apr 1835, aged 53 years. ALDRICK: [BNL, 23 Apr 1833] At Killead Church, Co Antrim, on the 16th inst, by the Very Rev Lord Edward Chichester, Dean of Raphoe, Edward Aldrick Esq, of the Royal Engineers, was married to Mary, only daughter of William Chaine, Esq, Ballycraigy, county of Antrim. ALLEN: see SHAW ALLEN: [LDJ, 2 Dec 1828*] Eliza, daughter of late Rev David Allen of Kilmacronan, married Dr Wray on 4 Aug 1828 in Pittsburgh, USA. ALLEN: [BNL, Tue 17 Mar 1835] On the morning of Thursday last, after a lingering illness, in the 47th year if his age, Henry Allen, Esq, Coroner for the county of Antrim for upwards of 22 years. ALLEN: [BNL, 31 Jan 1843] On the 17th inst, at the residence of his father, Balligan, near Kirkcubbin, in the 20th year of his age, Mr James Little Allen, medical student. ALLEN: [SLJ, 15 May 1835*] Mary, youngest daughter of William Allen, of Grange, Co Sligo, married William Kyle on 4 May at Kellerton Church, Co Tyrone. ALLEN: [BNL, Mon 30 Nov 1863, & LST 28 Nov 1863*] Died, after a few days’ illness, on 24 Nov, Sarah Anne, daughter of Rev Robert Allen of Ballina, Co Mayo, & Stewartstown, Co Tyrone. ALLEN: [LDJ, 1 Feb 1820*] Mary Allen, of Conroy, was married on 21 Jan 1820 to Matthew Wray of Kilmacrenan. Ceremony performed by Rev John Allen. ALLEY: see McRICH ALLISON: see LEPPER, & also SMYTH ALLISON: [LDJ, Tue 24 May 1831*] John Allison of Burt, a respectable farmer, died on 19 May 1831 by a fall from his horse on Strand Road. The accident happened opposite Pennyhem Mills. He was taken into McColgan’s public house, & died in less than an hour. ALLISON: [LST, 19 Nov 1847*] Anne, eldest daughter of the Rev James Allison, died 15 Nov 1847. [BSH, 21 Jan 1848, & LST, Fri 21 Jan 1848] On the 12th inst in May Street Church, Belfast, by the Rev Henry Cooke, DD, LLD, the Rev Samuel Smith Allison, only son of the Rev James Allison, Bess Vale, [Cumber], Co Derry, to Elizabeth, youngest daughter of the late Charles Lepper Esq, Laurel Lodge, Belfast.
