Uniform As the weather warms up and jumpers are taken off, please ensure these are labelled. Our lost property box is always incredibly full and although we hand back what we can, we simply cannot keep everything forever. Rags 2 Riches 4 Schools During the week commencing 15th June we will be sending home with the children white bags to collect any unwanted clean, dry clothing of the type that you would wear again yourself or pass on to your family or friends to wear. The attached flyer gives a list of items that can go in the bags and those that aren’t suitable, for example school uniform is not suitable. The school collection days will be Monday 1st July at 3.00pm and Tuesday 2nd July at 8.30am and if any bags could be dropped off in the foyer outside the main office at the end of Monday or start of Tuesday this will allow for prompt collection. The clothes will be weighed and the more weight we accumulate will mean more funds for the school. Thank you Local History Competition Mrs Morgan has launched a competition to celebrate Local History Month. She would like the children to design a poster, a leaflet or create a 3D model of a place of local historical interest to encourage people to visit the chosen place. It can be anywhere in Wiltshire but it must be historical! Suggested places could include Avebury, The White Horse and Lydiard House. All entries need to be with Mrs Morgan by Friday 14th June. We look forward to seeing what you produce! KS1 playground We are looking to spruce up our KS1 outdoor area. If you have any unwanted children’s tables and chairs, outdoor palettes, crates or den building materials they would be very gratefully appreciated. I LEARN TERM 2 FOCUS: LITERACY Friday 6th November 2020 A message from the Headteacher: Our first week back after half term has been a busy one! I’m delighted that the Swindon Youth Literature Festival will be taking place virtually and here at LMA next week. As I said in my letter to all parents and carers yesterday, it is very much business as usual here at Lawn Manor throughout the national lockdown period and we would be delighted to celebrate any positive news stories of successes outside of school in our newsletter, please just contact year leaders or the admin office to let us know. Sandra Muir Headteacher Year 7 Artwork Year 7 art with Miss Townsend Year 7 have been developing their art skills, particularly using pen shading techniques to create bold designs. Over half term, pupils were asked to copy the work of an artist who uses these same techniques in their work. These are some of the amazing art pieces that were handed in. Well done! Here are a few tips from an NHS website regarding identifying head lice and how to get rid of them, which sometimes takes a few treatments. Head lice can make your head feel: • itchy • like something is moving in your hair The only way to be sure someone has head lice is by finding live lice.

  • Ex-Student Harry Apps Has Landed a Role in Les Miserables, Touring the UK Until May 2019
As we come to the end of our first two terms we can reflect on some very positive changes that we have made and look forward to a bright future together. Despite all the fuss in the papers in September the introduction of the new behaviour has been a huge success. We have listened to Student Voice, Staff Voice and Parent Voice which are generally very positive and made tweaks as necessary. The policy is designed to stop low level disruption and improve the learning environment which is exactly what it has done. At the same time we have introduced Show My Homework and our new assessment policy which is based on the very latest research and was praised by the renowned national assessment guru Daisy Christodoulou when she came to the school recently. Sadly two members of staff are leaving us this Christmas. Bill Tucker, our Head of Computer Science, has had enough of travelling from Bath every day and has decided that he will work closer to home and Alex Burns our Mad Dog Rugby Head Coach is leaving to be Head Rugby Coach in a private school in Somerset. We wish them both great success and every possible happiness. In the summer our students yet again excelled themselves keeping in the top 5 schools in Wiltshire at both GCSE and A level/Btec. For the third year in a row we gained our best ever results at GCSE with record numbers gaining the new Strong Pass – a 5 in both English and Maths as well as the Standard Pass – a 4 at English and Maths.

  • News from Abbey Park School Issue 8- Term 2 2019
News from Abbey Park School Issue 8- Term 2 2019 ‘Potential into Performance’ ‘Potential into Performance’ Message from the Principal Dear Parent/Carer The week just before the Christmas break is always a time of reflection on how the year has gone so far. As you read on through the newsletter and gain a snapshot of some of the achievements of our young people, you will understand why I am very proud to be the Principal of Abbey Park School. The mock exams are a well-established feature of Term 2. Year 11 attitudes remained positive throughout this intense time and the experience provided a good taster of what the summer series holds for them. There is always the opportunity to build on performance, especially with the mock results morning and parent subject consultation evening just before the break. Although students need down time during the holiday, I would encourage parents to support their children in their revision over the two-week break. A significant aspect of the curriculum is Careers Advice and guidance and this term has seen some interesting new developments. For the first time we to took the Yr11 cohort to London to the Excel Careers fair, where students were able to access information on a vast array of companies and education providers. Lower down the school Yr8 experienced the first of our ‘Meet the Employer’ carousels, where they prepared questions for people from different walks of life. It was a great success providing Yr8 an insight into different careers. Mr White and I are extremely grateful to the many parents who volunteered to participate and I believe a number are returning to carry out the same exercise with Yr9.

  • Newsletter 1 -Final – 22.10.18 – Autumn 2018
Autumn Term Newsletter 1 A Great Start to Welcome and Inclusion in Swindon Schools Since our launch in January 2018, a lot of incredible insight, innovation and commitment has been shown in all the brilliant projects and curriculum initiatives that many schools have begun for introducing the Schools of Sanctuary principles of Learn, Embed and Share into our school communities. As we move through the second half of our first year, it’s a good time to: • reflect on our fabulous achievements; • consolidate our curriculum initiatives; • plan some clear directions which will continue our work together. What follows is a round-up of our fabulous achievements towards putting Swindon on the national Schools of Sanctuary map. The Commonweal School Since 2016, Commonweal School has been the hub-centre of Swindon Schools’ Global Learning Programme Network. In continuing their community commitment to global learning, Commonweal School pledges support to City of Sanctuary with access to rooms for our Schools of Sanctuary meetings and workshops. Commonweal’s generosity enables our Schools of Sanctuary work to flourish; this is a fantastic resource for us. Our thanks go to all staff who have made, and continue to make, this possible. The themes of human rights and social justice have a strong, sustainable presence in Commonweal’s KS3&4 curriculum – especially in Social Science. Therefore, Social Science teachers had no difficulty gathering together a small group of Year 7 students who keenly embraced the chance to get involved in the Twenty Welcomes Performance Poetry Project. An imaginative joint schools’ project to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Refugee Week 2018, funded by South Swindon Parish Council.
