Resource Guide

Lake County &The Flathead Reservation,

2018 Edition

Special Note: Thanks to Marcella Adolph for letting us use her beadwork for the cover art.

Dear friends-

With the Mission Mountains as a backdrop and a showstopper like the , life is truly beautiful. Of course, it is even more beautiful because of the family and friends that fill our lives. Adding to all that beauty is a community rich in diversity, history, culture, tradition, and resources. This Resource Guide is a tool for the community that includes services, clubs, activities, and programs in the region. It was developed with the involvement of the members of the Project LAUNCH Young Child Wellness Council, which includes representatives from education, social services, the non-profit sector, government, and healthcare. Project LAUNCH is a SAMHSA sponsored program under the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes

Department of Human Resource Development, initiated to link actions for unmet needs in children’s health within Lake County and the Flathead Reservation. Through its work, Project LAUNCH has developed collaborative relationships with a variety of programs, focusing on families with children between 0-8, helping with capacity building, training, family strengthening, home visit MH integration, child care providers, screenings, and mental health consultations. The

Resource Guide will continue to be expanded and modified annually to reflect new programs and changes.

Thank you to all who assisted with the creation of the guide!

The Project LAUNCH Team

With support from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes have been providing services as part of the national Project LAUNCH initiative. The mission of the Tribes' Project LAUNCH Program is to support

and strengthen a sustainable, well-coordinated, family focused network of accessible, holistic, culturally connected, compassionate, high-quality health and wellness services for all children, prenatal to age 8. SAMHSA has set the national focus area strands to guide program implementation. Strands of service for Project LAUNCH: (1) screening and assessment in a variety of child-serving settings, (2) enhanced home visiting through increased focus on social and emotional well-being, (3) mental health consultation in early care and education programs, (4) family strengthening and parent skills training, and (5) integration of behavioral health into primary care settings. Innovative and effective prevention/promotion practices at the local level serve as models to be sustained and replicated throughout the state, territory, and tribe. With these guiding areas, the local program continues developing collaborations, fostering partnerships, delivering relevant trainings, offering mental health consultation, and assisting with other local activities that support families and children. Project LAUNCH is committed to promoting strong, working relationships that help raise professional capacity, establish trust, raise community understanding, improve access to services and build a permanent team of professionals who can serve as a network of change for all those living in the area.
