(+video) XKeyscore is apparently a tool the NSA uses to sift through massive amounts of data. Critics say it allows the NSA to dip into people's 'most private thoughts' – a claim key lawmakers reject. This photo shows an aerial view of the NSA's Utah Data Center in Bluffdale, Utah. The long, squat buildings span 1.5 million square feet, and are filled with super powered computers designed to store massive amounts of information gathered secretly from phone calls and emails. (Rick Bowmer/AP/File) By Mark Clayton, Staff writer / August 1, 2013 at 9:38 pm EDT Topsecret documents leaked to The Guardian newspaper have set off a new round of debate over National Security Agency surveillance of electronic communications, with some cyber experts saying the trove reveals new and more dangerous means of digital snooping, while some members of Congress suggested that interpretation was incorrect. The NSA's collection of "metadata" – basic call logs of phone numbers, time of the call, and duration of calls – is now wellknown, with the Senate holding a hearing on the subject this week. But the tools discussed in the new Guardian documents apparently go beyond mere collection, allowing the agency to sift through the www.csmonitor.com/layout/set/print/USA/2013/0801/What-is-XKeyscore-and-can-it-eavesdrop-on-everyone-everywhere-video 1/4 8/3/13 What is XKeyscore, and can it 'eavesdrop on everyone, everywhere'? DRAMATURGY GUIDE School of Rock: the Musical the National Theatre January 16-27, 2019
DRAMATURGY GUIDE School of Rock: The Musical The National Theatre January 16-27, 2019 Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber Book by Julian Fellowes Lyrics by Glenn Slater Based on the Paramount Film Written by Mike White Featuring 14 new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and all the original songs from the movie Packet prepared by Dramaturg Linda Lombardi Sources: School of Rock: The Musical, The Washington Post ABOUT THE SHOW Based on the hit film, this hilarious new musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school to earn a few extra bucks. To live out his dream of winning the Battle of the Bands, he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. While teaching the students what it means to truly rock, something happens Dewey didn’t expect... they teach him what it means to care about something other than yourself. For almost 200 years, The National Theatre has occupied a prominent position on Pennsylvania Avenue – “America’s Main Street” – and played a central role in the cultural and civic life of Washington, DC. Located a stone’s throw from the White House and having the Pennsylvania Avenue National Historic Site as it’s “front yard,” The National Theatre is a historic, cultural presence in our Nation’s Capital and the oldest continuously operating enterprise on Pennsylvania Avenue. The non-profit National Theatre Corporation oversees the historic theatre and serves the DC community through three free outreach programs, Saturday Morning at The National, Community Stage Connections, and the High School Ticket Program. -

The Domestic Is Not Free, Nov 2—10, Spotlighting the Ways Women Have Created, Challenged, and Subverted Domesticity
BAM presents Women at Work: The Domestic Is Not Free, Nov 2—10, spotlighting the ways women have created, challenged, and subverted domesticity October 9, 2018/Brooklyn, NY—From Friday, November 2 through Saturday, November 10 BAM presents Women at Work: The Domestic Is Not Free, a wide-ranging series spotlighting the overlooked work women take on in the home as house-workers, caretakers, and familial partners. The Domestic Is Not Free is the third edition of the ongoing Women at Work series—following Women at Work: Labor Activism in March and Women at Work: Radical Creativity in August—and highlights the historically erased and undervalued physical and emotional labor women perform, often invisibly, every day. The series considers the myriad ways in which women around the world have challenged and subverted traditional associations between gender and domesticity. Exploring the intersections of labor, race, class, and social environment, these films embody human stories of sacrifice and endurance. BAM Cinema Department Coordinator and programmer of the series Natalie Erazo explains, “I learned early on to value the domestic space and appreciate the women around me who shaped it. I hope this series will encourage viewers to acknowledge the monotony and emotional bearing of a life often relegated to being behind the scenes.” The series opens with Ousmane Sembène’s seminal Black Girl (1966—Nov 2). Screening with short films Fannie’s Film (Woods, 1979) and Fucked Like a Star (Saintonge, 2018), these films depict black women in roles of domestic service while also giving audiences access to their inner thoughts, feelings, and struggles. -

Usually, reading and writing on stage are considered to be passive and static, but in the two playwrights’ works, they are used as an effective plot device that moves the drama forward and as willful efforts by the female characters to develop their sense of identities. Furthermore, in contrast to the usual perception of reading and writing as intellectual processes, Fornes and Kennedy depict these acts as intensely physical and sensual. Julia Kristeva’s and Hélène Cixous’ poststructuralist psychoanalytic theories of language and female sexuality, and Gloria Anzaldúa’s theory of writing the body are the major theoretical framework within which I explore the two playwrights’ works. -
