More importantly, I have the opportunity to avenge a previous loss to Andy Souwer, and I get to do it in front of the Japanese fans. I promise to deliver an exciting performance for everyone there.” Rodtang Jitmuangnon, ONE Athlete, stated: “To be able to compete in ONE Championship means a lot to me, and to be able to compete in their first-ever event in Japan is an absolute honor for me. It means a lot to me because they believe in my talent as an athlete. I’m really happy to be in this position. I promise that I won’t disappoint the Japanese fans on March 31st.” Multiple-time Muay Thai World Champion Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex is one of the most popular and accomplished strikers in the world. Born in Northeast Thailand, Yodsanklai won close to 200 professional bouts against many fellow Muay Thai legends. In the process, he captured several prestigious titles, including three Lumpinee Stadium World Championships, two Lion Fight World Championships, two WMC World Championships, and a WBC World Title. The lure of testing his skills amongst the world’s best strikers in ONE Super Series has drawn him to ONE Championship, and he now finds himself competing on the toughest proving ground of martial arts competition. The legendary warrior now looks to continue his dominance in the ONE Championship arena. He returns to action against Dutch World Champion kickboxer Andy Souwer at ONE: A NEW ERA. Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon is one of the most recognizable names in the world of Muay Thai, capturing the Omnoi Stadium World Championship on two occasions. Known for his exciting Muay Mat style, which specializes in devastating strikes and always looks to charge forward to instantly inflict damage, Rodtang has beaten some of Thailand’s biggest Muay Thai superstars. Following his two impressive performances on the ONE Super Series stage, Rodtang eyes to inch himself closer to a possible ONE World Title shot by testing his mettle against two-time Muay Thai World Champion Hakim Hamech at ONE: A NEW ERA. Both Belingon and Leone are seeking a rematch against reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, but will have to go through each other to secure it. “I know Andrew Leone is a tough opponent, and I need to be at my best to win. It’s going to be one of my biggest matches to date,” said Belingon. “I am very thankful to ONE Championship for allowing me to be a part of this historic event. I can’t leave anything to chance. I have to give another great performance. Beating Leone would be the next step to the title.” Belingon’s opponent Leone also knows what’s at stake in this matchup, and he isn’t taking the Filipino lightly by any means.

Strotmeyer, Jr., PhD University of Pittsburgh, 2014 ABSTRACT Combat sports are generally considered more dangerous and risky compared to other athletic activities, as scoring is inextricably linked to inflicting damage on an opponent. This fundamentally unique intent, to injure an adversary in a contest is replete with injury risks from physical exposures. One combat sport increasingly popular among US youth, known as Muay Thai, yields scant epidemiologic study on fighter injuries. To develop a surveillance system to provide magnitude and scope of injury outcomes in order to frame the public health significance. Three surveillance approaches were utilized to identify eligible participants to complete a web survey regarding Muay Thai fight-related injuries.

  • Study on Career Selection by Former Elite Athletes
STUDY ON CAREER SELECTION BY FORMER ELITE ATHLETES BACKGROUND The concept of “dual career” arose from the need to help athletes in planning time management among sports, education, acquisition of financial means and social life. The athlete’s career is carried out in a given period, relatively short one, and for elite athletes this period is even shorter. In this particular context the question arising is what happens after sports career? The European Commission White Paper on Sport (2007) states the important contribution of sports to economic and social cohesion and the formation of more integrated societies. Physical education and sports are a factor in education, health and social integration in any society. Brief summary of EU POLICIES REGARDING DUAL CAREER IN SPORT General policy documents • The Communication on Sport, adopted on 18 January 2011, that sets out the Commission’s ideas for EU-level action in the field of sport1. • Study on Sports Agents in the EU (November 2009) • European Council Declaration on Sport (Annex 5 to the Presidency Conclusions of the Brussels European Council of 11-12 December 2008) • European Parliament resolution of 8 May 2008 on the White Paper on Sport (2007/2261(INI)) • The White Paper on Sport adopted in July 2007 gives the Commission's strategic orientation on the role of sport in the European Union2. • European Parliament resolution of 29 March 2007 on the future of professional football in Europe (2006/2130(INI)) • Council Declaration on the specific characteristics of sport and its social function in Europe (Nice 2000) 1 The Communication is accompanied by a Staff Working Document on the free movement of professional and amateur sportspeople in the EU.
