AACTA Announces Short Film Nominees for the 4Th AACTA Awards
MEDIA RELEASE Strictly embargoed until Wednesday 3rd September, 2014. AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY ANNOUNCES FIRST NOMINEES FOR 4TH AACTA AWARDS The countdown to Australia’s top screen Awards has officially started, with the first nominees for the 4th Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards announced today. Nominees were announced in the Best Short Animation and Best Short Fiction Film categories for the 4th AACTA Awards, which will also see Australia’s best film, television and documentaries awarded in Sydney in January 2015. Feature Films in Competition and nominees for the AACTA Award for Best Feature Length Documentary for the 4th AACTA Awards will be announced in the coming weeks, and all Feature Film, Television and the remaining Documentary nominees will be announced later in 2014. NOMINEES FOR THE AACTA AWARD FOR BEST SHORT ANIMATION • GOD SQUAD. Nicholas Kempt, Troy Zafer • Grace Under Water. Anthony Lawrence • Love In The Time Of March Madness. Robertino Zambrano, Melissa Johnston • The Video Dating Tape of Desmondo Ray, Aged 33 & 3/4. Steve Baker This year’s Best Short Animation nominees arrive at the AACTA Awards with a host of Festival screenings behind them, both national and international. The Video Dating Tape of Desmondo Ray, Aged 33 & 3/4, which screened at SXSW 2014 and St Kilda Film Festival 2014, is by writer-director Steve Baker, a previous Tropfest and AFI Award winner. This darkly funny short film portrays Raymond, a loner with a penchant for peeing in the rain, as a likeable, if not likely, dating prospect. Also funny and touching is Love In The Time Of March Madness - a ‘tall short’ about a 6’4” woman whose success on the basketball court is at odds with her luck in love. -

October 2008 Comedy Channel Highlights
www.comedychannel.com.au OCTOBER 2008 HIGHLIGHTS THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW WORLD PREMIERE Thursday October 2 @ 8.30pm Continues Thursdays at 8.30pm Merrick and Rosso are back on the box where they belong, with the keys to the Foxtel car - and enough fuel in the tank to really cause some chaos! They’ll finally return to their broadcasting birth place at The Comedy Channel with THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW. So what’s on the cards for the new show? Each week the boys will front up before a live studio audience with their unique take on anything and everything. From what’s happening in the world of news to the big questions: Can you deep fry a watermelon? On THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW, celebrities will make regular guest appearances from in-studio interviews to recorded comedy pieces to show you a side of them never before seen. Into the mix will go plenty of studio audience interaction and more mayhem and stupidity than is legal in three states. For perhaps the first time, Merrick Watts and Tim Ross will truly focus the energy and excitement of their legendary sell-out live comedy shows and bring that force to the electric television. It’s hotter than Gordon Ramsay’s kitchen, is sure to top Brendan Nelson’s approval ratings and it’s ‘wronger’ than an Austrian family get-together. THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW will allow nobody to be immune from their parodies and sketch comedy. Finally, as Merrick and Rosso are keen to point out, “Put simply, the show is Morcambe and Wise meets The Star Wars Christmas Special at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting during The French Renaissance… on a weeknight.” Buckle up Australia, for a riotous half hour of THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW. -

And where do we come from? Australia’s greatest Olympian Ian Thorpe, iconic Indigenous actor Ernie Dingo, and TV presenter and Queen of Eurovision Julia Zemiro set off on an epic journey of genetic time travel to find out. DNA is the instruction manual that helps build and run our bodies. But scientific breakthroughs have discovered another remarkable use for it. DNA contains a series of genetic route maps. It means we can trace our mother’s mother’s mother and our father’s father’s father, and so on, back through tens of millennia, revealing how our ancestors migrated out of Africa and went on to populate the rest of the world. -
Wmc Investigation: 10-Year Analysis of Gender & Oscar
WMC INVESTIGATION: 10-YEAR ANALYSIS OF GENDER & OSCAR NOMINATIONS womensmediacenter.com @womensmediacntr WOMEN’S MEDIA CENTER ABOUT THE WOMEN’S MEDIA CENTER In 2005, Jane Fonda, Robin Morgan, and Gloria Steinem founded the Women’s Media Center (WMC), a progressive, nonpartisan, nonproft organization endeav- oring to raise the visibility, viability, and decision-making power of women and girls in media and thereby ensuring that their stories get told and their voices are heard. To reach those necessary goals, we strategically use an array of interconnected channels and platforms to transform not only the media landscape but also a cul- ture in which women’s and girls’ voices, stories, experiences, and images are nei- ther suffciently amplifed nor placed on par with the voices, stories, experiences, and images of men and boys. Our strategic tools include monitoring the media; commissioning and conducting research; and undertaking other special initiatives to spotlight gender and racial bias in news coverage, entertainment flm and television, social media, and other key sectors. Our publications include the book “Unspinning the Spin: The Women’s Media Center Guide to Fair and Accurate Language”; “The Women’s Media Center’s Media Guide to Gender Neutral Coverage of Women Candidates + Politicians”; “The Women’s Media Center Media Guide to Covering Reproductive Issues”; “WMC Media Watch: The Gender Gap in Coverage of Reproductive Issues”; “Writing Rape: How U.S. Media Cover Campus Rape and Sexual Assault”; “WMC Investigation: 10-Year Review of Gender & Emmy Nominations”; and the Women’s Media Center’s annual WMC Status of Women in the U.S. -
Press Release
4.1.2016 PRESS RELEASE THE WHITNEY MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART ANNOUNCE THE WORLD PREMIERE OF FEATURE FILM THE SILENT EYE FEATURING CECIL TAYLOR & MIN TANAKA & DIRECTED BY ACCLAIMED AUSTRALIAN FILMMAKER AND ARTIST AMIEL COURTIN-WILSON. http://whitney.org/Exhibitions/OpenPlanCecilTaylor THE SILENT EYE is the World Premiere of a new feature length performance film by Amiel Courtin-Wilson featuring Min Tanaka and Cecil Taylor. Shot in Cecil Taylor’s home over three days in January 2016, the film is a highly intimate, impressionistic portrait of the unspoken rapport between two masters of their form. Shot by Sundance award winning cinematographer Germain McMicking and featuring sublime slow motion cinematography of Cecil and Min at work together, the film plays out like a timeless, elegant conversation between the two men- at once meditative and highly moving. The Robert D. Bielecki Foundation have just announced their generous support of the completion of the film and Robert had this to say about the project. “Filmmaker Amiel Courtin-Wilson's THE SILENT EYE is a marvel of time expanded and contracted. He captures a journey between old friends filled with prescient reminiscence - a meditation in sound and movement between two masters catching up, rewinding, and spinning forward the way ocean currents undulate when kissed by the wind.” Amiel is also thrilled to be working with the Robert D. Bielecki Foundation. “It is a humbling and deeply inspiring experience to be supported to create such a singular and specific film.” Acclaimed director Amiel Courtin-Wilson's feature films have screened and won awards at Venice Film Festival (HAIL, 2011 RUIN, 2013) Cannes (CICADA, 2009) and Sundance (CHASING BUDDHA, 2000). -
