Further information about the organisation and the competition can be found on the EuroBasket 2007 website: www.eurobasket2007.orgHT TH . EuroBasket 2007 Team Manual Dear Friends, On behalf of the EuroBasket 2007 Organising Committee, I would like to welcome you to this championship, which will be held for the third time in Spain, and which coincides with the surge of basketball in our country following the Spanish national team’s victory in last year’s World Championships in Japan. It is an honour to receive the world basketball family once again in a country that has already shown its commitment to the dissemination and development of this sport. You will be able to see very shortly the reason that led us to adopt the main message of this great championship: we’re all playing on the home court. In no other country of Europe is basketball so important and popular at the moment. Our victory at Saitama last year has no doubt contributed to mobilize a fan base that has always been exemplary for its support and enthusiasm, and has served to create a basketball-friendly atmosphere that will reach apotheosis during EuroBasket 2007. In a country that is so blessed with great champions and so active in sporting organisations of any nature, the Spanish national team and EuroBasket 2007 have managed to be in the right place at the right time during this crucial season, with less than one year to go for the Beijing Olympic Games. Spanish sport has been living and breathing basketball all summer long. And Spanish basketball has prepared itself to meet the challenge and present the best possible team, and at the same time organise a model championship in all aspects that will serve as a benchmark for future experiences. I hope the competition schedule will satisfy all of you, and that you will get a chance to offer your best to preserve the greatness of the event. You’re the true stars of the championship, and you’re going to be in the spotlight in the coming days for all sports lovers in Spain and the rest of Europe. Everything’s ready for you to enjoy a magnificent stay and to compete in the tournament on an equal footing. Alicante, Granada, Madrid, Palma de Mallorca and Seville, our five venues, await you with their arms wide open. José Luis Saez President EuroBasket 2007 Organising Committee www.eurobasket2007.org EuroBasket 2007 Team Manual Dear friends and participants, Allow me, first of all, to offer you our most cordial welcome to EuroBasket 2007 on behalf of the group of people that make up the EuroBasket’07 organising team. You will be able to see firsthand the enormous amount of expectation that this championship has stirred in Spain and the tremendous passion that our sport has generated in this country. It is our honour, as the team of people that have worked so hard to organise this event, to host you over the next fourteen days in Spain. We are all at your service and to that effect we have put together this TEAM MANUAL. EuroBasket’07 is an event that has been prepared tirelessly by people who recognise the importance of the true protagonists of this championship and who wish to serve them, knowing full well that the success of this competition depends on their performance. From the very day in which we were awarded the organisation of the EuroBasket 2007 in Tallinn, we have stayed true to the mission statements that we held at the time: “We All Play at Home”; “Commitment to Success”; and “We are Ready”. “We all play at home” is more than just a way of saying that while you are here we want you to feel as if you were in your own country, in your own home or in your own family setting. We have prepared everything meticulously. Over one thousand people are going to be working in the organisation to tend to your needs: volunteers, team attaches, health professionals and tour guides for you and your family members. We will also provide you with security, customised transportation, leisure activities, personal internet services, information welcome desks, and much more, but most importantly, the hospitality of our country and the warmth of our fans. “Committment to success” has to do with our sole passion of designing a championship which will provide you with the highest degree of ease and comfort for you to carry out your activity. There is not a single area that we have not taken into account: top quality hotels and their proximity to the venues; meals; the quality of the wood floors of the courts; practice venues close to the hotels; laundry service; specially adapted coaches; charter flights for the teams; etc... We are entirely at your disposal for anything you may need. Everything required for you to participate in this competition in the best possible conditions will be made available to you. “We are ready” expresses the fact that our organisation is already prepared to take on this great experience. We are ready and anxious to begin. I know, without a doubt, that the working conditions will be the very best for all of you. EuroBasket 2007 is going to surprise everyone. From the 3rd to the 16th of September we will not only enjoy an exciting and wonderful sporting event, but we will also experience a great celebration.
