Ipad Basics 4 Music Applications iPad Basics 4 Music Applications NORFOLK LIBRARY, March 22nd, 2014 CONTACT LUISA OR NICOLE AT 860-542-5075 [email protected] or [email protected] “iTunes Radio is free streaming radio with the best selection of music. It builds and brings together stations you’ll love from day one. And the more you listen to it, the more personalized your stations become. It’s radio reimagined.” iTunes Radio is a way to listen to music that is already built into your iPad. Simply tap on your “Music” icon, then tap “Radio” at the boom left of your screen. There will automatically be a few stations featured on your radio, but you can make your own stations as well! Tap on “New Station” to search for something you’d like to listen to. After you tap on “New Station,” type in an Artist, Genre or Song you’d like to base your radio station off of, or choose from the list of popular genres below. From there, a handpicked list of songs will start playing on your iPad or iPhone. You can skip songs (though you’re only allowed a few skips every hour), tap on the star to let iTunes know you really enjoy the song, and you even have the option to buy the song playing! Happy listening! You can also create a new station from a song you already have in your library! Tap “Create while a song is playing, tap “New Station”, and it will be waiting in your stations. Once you create a station, you can also fine-tune it. You can create new stations from the Artist or Song currently playing, tell it to play just hits, new songs, or a mix of them both, and share the station with friends on social media websites. Spotify is another way to listen to music on your iPad. You can search for your favorite artists, songs, and even look at and listen to what your friends are enjoying! It’s a great way to discover new music, put together playlists, or listen to your favorite albums. Over 20,000 songs are added to Spotify per day, so you’ll never get bored with it! You have two options when you first open Spotify- to Login with Facebook or Login with Spotify details. If you do not have an account, the easiest will be to Login with Facebook. Otherwise, you will have to sign up at www.spotify.com. Take a look at this Spotify menu bar. This is where you’ll do most of your controlling! Search allows you to get started. Type in your favorite artist and get rolling. What’s New will give you a look at the newest albums and singles you can stream for free. Your Inbox will show you what your friends have sent you. Radio works a lot like your iTunes radio Playlists are, you guessed it, playlists that you personally put together. Friends shows your facebook friends, or others you are connected to on Spotify and what they’ve been listening to. Any time you listen to an artist or song on your iPad, it will give you a few options. You can tap the + to add it to a playlist, hit the radiowaves to make a station out of it, find out more about the artist or share links to the album with friends. Tapping + Tapping the Person buon Tapping the Share buon Radio works a lot like iTunes Radio, in that it can make stations based on any song, artist, album or even playlist you’d like. This is the only option you have if you use Spotify through your iPhone. If you are friends with other Spotify users, be sure to follow them! They will be able to make you personalized playlists and send them to you through your Spotify inbox. It’s like the new mixtape! TuneIn Radio Find the App Store Logo on Your iPAD Screen Use the Search Box to Find the App Click Download Remember location services? In this case allowing it will help the Tunein Radio App to provide you with a list of local radio stations to listen to Remember to enable location services in seings Welcome Page - Live - Browse - Favorites - Search -Seings BROWSE page Login Allows you to save your interests Access this page by tapping the seings icon below If you create a login you will be able to save stations and add songs to playlists. CONTROLS: volume/rewind/on-off/save station/save song/save station Saving a song allows you to buy and download it in favorites Music Search .

If you don’t have an Apple account To use iTunes Radio, you must have iOS 7 or OS X Lion v10.7 or later, iTunes 11.1 (for PC), or Apple TV 6.0 or later installed on your device or computer as well as an Apple ID with a user name and password and a credit card number on file (even if you aren’t going to buy anything.) You can listen for free to iTunes Radio once you have completed the set-up.

    Tech Tips from Mr G How the Internet Changes Listening to the Radio Radio has sure changed a lot in the days since I was a kid. Back then, even though there were specific stations dedicated to classical, jazz, country, and easy listening; on the local Top 40 station, you could hear a wide variety of artists from the Beatles to the Supremes to Dean Martin to Patsy Cline, to Ray Charles, and even Paul Mauriat. If the artist sold enough records, you’d hear them on the station. This meant that the entire family could listen to one station. But in an interview on The Nerdist podcast, musicologist Barry Hansen, known to many as Dr Demento, said that over the past few decades, broadcasting turned to narrowcasting, as station managers learned to aim their programming at certain specific demographics in order to attract certain advertisers. I longed for the days when I could be exposed to a broad range of music on the radio, and even though it seemed at first as if the advent of the iPod and other mp3 players would increase the narrowness of narrowcasting, the rise of the iPhone, the iPod Touch, Android phones, and other app-driven devices have made it almost possible to listen like it was 1965 again.
