Dış Basında İstanbul 01-08 MAYIS 2013 SON DÖRT AYDA İSTANBUL’U 3 MİLYON TURİST ZİYARET ETTİ AlEqt.com, Suudi Arabistan, 06 Mayıs 2013 Suudi Arabistan’da yayınlanan Al Eqtisadyah gazetesine ait internet sitesinde yılın bu dönemine kadar İstanbul’u ziyaret eden turist sayısı ile ilgili aşağıdaki habere yer verildi: “Dün Türk basın yayın kuruluşlarının İstanbul’u ziyaret eden yabancı turistlerin sayısına dair yayınladıkları açıklamalarda, 2013 yılının ilk dört ayı içinde şehri ziyaret edenlerin sayısının yaklaşık 2,92 milyon kişiye ulaştığı bildirildi. Geçen senenin aynı döneminde şehre gelen turist sayısı 2,42 milyon kişi iken bu yıl %21’lik bir artış gerçekleşti. Almanya, 103.000’i aşan turist sayısı ile listenin birinci sırasında yer aldı. Rusya 59.500 kişi ile ikinci, Fransa ise 52.000 kişi ile üçüncü sırada yer buldu. Uluslararası İstanbul Havalimanı ihalesini Limak, Cengiz Holding, Kolin İnşaat, Mapa, Kalyon konsorsiyumu kazandı. İstanbul’un 3. uluslararası havalimanı faaliyete geçtikten sonra tahmini olarak yılda 210 milyon yolcu ağırlayacak. Söz konusu yolcu yoğunluğunun İstanbul’a, Dubai Uluslararası Havalimanı’nın ardından dünyada en fazla yolcu ağırlayan 2.havalimanı olma unvanını getirmesi muhtemel. Limak A.Ş. Otel ünlü Şark Ekspresi’yle seyahat eden yolcuların konaklaması için 1892 yılında inşa edildi ve Agatha Christie beğenilen gizemli “Şark Ekspresi’nde Cinayet” eserinin ilham kaynağını buradan aldı. Türkiye Başbakanı Recep Tayyip Erdoğan ise şakacı bir üslupla “Başbakan Abe’ye söyledim. Japonya Olimpiyatları bir kere zaten düzenledi. Adaylıktan çekilmelisiniz. Dolayısıyla biz de kazanıp Olimpiyatları düzenleyelim” dedi. Engaging with the complex power dynamics inherent in the seemingly friendly gestures of “hospitality,” my dissertation analyzes the inconsistent ways in which the Japanese tourism industry has defined and dealt with foreign visitors, comparatively looking at tourists from the “West” and “Asia.” I divide the dissertation into four chapters: “Hospitality Infrastructure: Pursuing the Civilized,” which uncovers the mixed sentiment of national pride and shame behind the ardent discourse of hospitality in Japan, “Tourist Gaze: Searching for the Oriental,” in which I illustrate how Orientalist imaginings of Japan have continued to transform and endure in the tourist gazes today, “Roles of a Host: Performing the Hospitable,” which takes an ethnographic look at social relations between hosts and guests, and “Guests from Greater China: Welcoming the Ex-Colonized,” where I identify the legacy of Japan’s colonial history in the increasing number of visitors from the Greater China Region. Global cases increase every day, impacting economic, social and political sectors. Japan is among the impacted countries. How does it deal with the pandemic? The aim of this article is to examine the election in the Tokyo Prefecture area during the pandemic. It is a gubernatorial election which was held on July 5, 2020. The election was held when a seat vacancy occurred as demanded by democratic processes. At the same time, the election was held while the COVID-19 pandemic was spreading across the country, which included Tokyo. Therefore, this article juxtaposes the term democracy against "demo"crazy (you crazy) to show the conflict of norms between the demands of democracy and the madness of holding elections when the situation is considered inappropriate. The term “demo”crazy is a mix of Kelantan Malay words representing you and crazy (madness). The combination of the words translates as "you are crazy." It also reflects that holding elections at the wrong time is considered to be madness. How did the candidates conduct their campaigns and the voting? What was the content of the campaigns during the pandemic? What was the effect of the elections? This study uses the library research methodology to answer these questions. This study found that the demand of democracy was more important than waiting for a possible recovery in the situation.
