The Intellectual Property metamorphosis in the Age of Digital Transition 11 January, 11.00 am· The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on the Member States’ agenda, forcing them to rethink ways of acting and to reflect on how to react to the global health crisis. This has resulted in an intense need for innovation and implementation of new technologies. The structure of today’s knowledge society is grounded on the digital development. Hastening and promoting a digital transition, conveyed by the Intellectual Property system, is a unique opportunity to leverage the economy, and also to create an environment that is favorable to the production of more and improved innovation. Hence, the emerging need to reflect and raise awareness on the importance of Intellectual Property. The High-Level Conference entitled “The Intellectual Property metamorphosis in the Age of Digital Transition”, proposes to tell a story with two central characters: The Digital Transition and the Intellectual Property. Technological evolution has always existed and will continue to exist, often silently, founded on the desire to constantly overcome itself through continuous improvements and also to create of new ways to attend everyday life demands. In turn, the Intellectual Property is also required, due to the technology and innovation evolutionary process, to create the necessary conditions to receive the product of such progress, thus undergoing a metamorphic process, similar to what happens with a butterfly metamorphosis. Remembering the past, acting in the present and reflecting on what the future of innovation and Intellectual Property holds is the programme for the debate on February 11th, 2021, which will result in reflections and questions regarding the (unpredictable) direction that Digital transition, hand in hand with Intellectual Property, will follow.
