A Block Wise Study, Faizabad District Sadaf and Abdul Munir Regional Development Is a Multi-Dimensional Phenomenon
National Geographical Journal of India, An International Peer-reviewed and refereed Journal of India (NGSI-BHU, ISSN: 0027-9374/2015/1564), vol. 61 (4), Dec. : 321-332 Spatial Analysis of Regional Development : A Block Wise Study, Faizabad District Sadaf and Abdul Munir Regional development is a multi-dimensional phenomenon. It represents an overall development of any region. The concept of regional development means the fullest development of any region according to its potentialities. The problem of regional disparities is not found in India only rather it is a global problem. However, in India, it is more common than in any other country. The present paper is an attempt to show the spatial pattern of regional development at block level of Faizabad district for the period of 2010-2011. Twenty two variables have been selected for analyzing the spatial variation of development of 11 blocks of the district. For this study, secondary data have been collected from the stastical bulletin and primary census abstract. Ethnic Parties, Material Politics and the Ethnic Poor: the Bahujan Samaj Party in North India
Ethnic Parties, Material Politics and the Ethnic Poor: The Bahujan Samaj Party in North India Sohini Guha, Department of Political Science McGill University, Montreal December 2008 A thesis submitted to McGill University in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) © Copyright Sohini Guha, 2008 Abstract Many studies explore the determinants of support for ethnic parties, and the consequences of such parties for democracy. This dissertation addresses these questions through a study of the Bahujan Samaj Party (B.S.P.) in India's largest state, Uttar Pradesh (U.P.). The BSP is India's only successful lower caste party, and gained greatest support over the last two decades in U.P., which it now rules. The dissertation argues that material benefits, delivered on a programmatic basis, account for the success of the B.S.P., and perhaps other ethnic parties too, among poorer groups. It also indicates that the B.S.P.'s consequences for democracy -on the whole positive- have depended both on its ties to society, and the breadth of visions of community reigning among its core supporters. The conclusions are based on analyses of electoral results, the caste background of party candidates, patterns of ownership of land and other resources, extensive interviews with party leaders and activists, and ethnographic studies of representative villages in U.P. The argument about the reasons for support questions an assumption common to psychological theories of ethnic voting- that poorer groups vote for ethnic parties because they draw symbolic empowerment from the material ascendancy that ethnic parties secure for coethnic elites. -
Self-Employment
SELF-EMPLOYMENT A Framework for Implementation National Rural Livelihood Mission Ministry of Rural Development Government of India SELF-EMPLOYMENT A Framework for Implementation National Rural Livelihood Mission Ministry of Rural Development Government of India June 22, 2016 Executive Summary MoRD has been thinking about a strategy to systematically bring panchayats out of poverty within a clear timeline. Given that 51% of the rural workforce is self-employed, there is a need to create a policy framework for holistically improving self-employment opportunities for the rural poor. In the light of the above, a framework document titled Self-Employment–A Framework for Implementation (No.J-11060/1/2016-RL) dated June 22nd, 2016 has been prepared after a consultation with state representatives in NIRD&PR in Hyderabad on January 9, 2016 and a national consultation in Delhi at Vigyan Bhawan on January 14, 2016. Before the document is taken up for formal consideration at the GoI level, it was thought necessary to seek the opinion of State governments. Accordingly, a copy of the framework document is hereby attached for your comments. The framework proposes a new scheme within the NRLM framework called the Grameen Swarozghar Yojana (GSY) that would be implemented through inter-departmental collaboration. The proposal is to ensure that self-employment, skill up-gradation, and efficient delivery of government schemes and entitlements lead to poverty-free panchayats within a definite timeline. The new scheme is proposed on 7 key principles: 1. Build on the strengths of previous efforts while avoiding it weaknesses 2. Build on the recent success of establishing high quality SHGs through the CRP strategy 3.
