Dear participants of the 8th Nordic Working Life Conference we are living hard times. As one popular sing in Finland tell us, “the most difficult situation is now and here”. As critical social scientists, we are working with projects analyzing current trends in the Nordic countries. We have a rich tradition in multidisciplinary research on working life. Our joint conferences provides us good opportunities to present our newest results, discuss with colleagues and listen to prominent scholars in the plenum sessions. On the behalf of the University of Tampere, I wish you all warmly welcome to our university and to Tampere. Our city has a rich industrial history and our university has long traditions in working life studies. I believe that we all make an excellent conference. Harri Melin Vice rector, University of Tampere * * * Current trends in working life are contradictory. The Nordic interdisciplinary working life conference, offers an excellent opportunity to turn these contradictions into interesting research questions. In Finland, the educational achievements are high and the infrastructure of the society is well developed. Through this, it has been possible to provide services for the needs of citizens, institutions and entrepreneurs and facilitate international collaboration as well. The Finnish labour market relations have followed the Nordic model, promoting mutual trust and creating a favourable environment for the rapid improvement of productivity and well-being of citizens. However, the high hopes based on these assets have been so far only partly met. The post-2008 economic recession in Finland has turned out to be persistent and the high investments made into research, development and innovations have not fully resulted in expected gains, un- or underemployed have become also familiar among high qualificated labor force. We welcome the conference participants to join the discussion that is focused not only on Finnish working life, but also on global trends and questions, which are specific for Nordic countries. On the behalf of The Finnish Association of Work Life Research (FAWORE) Chair, Arja Haapakorpi * * * Tervetuloa Tampereelle työelämän tutkijat, kehittäjät ja muut työelämäilmiöistä kiinnostuneet. Tänä vuonna Työelämän tutkimuspäivien rinnalla järjestetään kahdeksas pohjoismainen työelämän tutkimuksen konferenssi - Nordic Working Life Conference, NWLC2016. Konferenssikokonaisuuden aiheena on Hard times? Kovat ajat? Muutos on tullut jäädäkseen. Millaisia ratkaisuja on löydetty? Tervetuloa Tampereen yliopistolle! Tehdään päivistä ikimuistoiset, opitaan yhdessä, syvennetään ymmärrystämme työelämän monenlaisista ilmiöistä, jotka kietoutuvat tutkimuspäivien tematiikkaan ja verkostoidutaan! • Using Social Media to Brand Northern Jutland for the Middle Atlantic U.S. Tourists
Using Social Media to brand Northern Jutland for the Middle Atlantic U.S. Tourists Andreas Langberg Bruhn Gustafsson Study number: 20150806 Master’s Thesis, MA Tourism, Aalborg University Abstract The purpose of this Master’s thesis is to find out how Northern Jutland through social media can create brand equity as a destination for the Middle Atlantic U.S. tourists. Norwegian (Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA) is considering opening a direct flight route from somewhere in the Mid-Atlantic States to Aalborg. A direct flight route would increase the accessibility to Northern Jutland for the Middle Atlantic U.S. tourists. The issue for Northern Jutland is that there is very little to none awareness of Northern Jutland as a destination for the U.S. tourists. The U.S. tourists who travel to Denmark mostly visit Copenhagen. There has been an increase in directs flights from the U.S. to Copenhagen, which has made Copenhagen more accessible for the U.S. tourists. Social media have become an important marketing tool for destination branding. The majority of the U.S. tourists use social media in a travel context. Social media allows tourists to share their own experiences and recommendations to other tourists. Tourists’ comments, shares and likes are all influential factors in creating narratives about a destination. The Northern Jutland destination lacks interaction with the tourists on their social media platforms. New innovative campaigns can help to bring life to the Northern Jutland destination brand, and help increase the awareness for the Middle Atlantic U.S. tourists. The constructivism paradigm was applied in this thesis.

  • 2008 Annual Report of Finansmarkedsfondet
Report for Finansmarkedsfondet: Conference on Frontiers of Corporate Finance Organizers: Bernt Arne Ødegaard and Lorán Chollete June 20, 2013 This document summarizes the Conference on Frontiers of Corporate Finance. We approach this report in 3 steps: summary of activities; benefits to Norway and Finansmarkedsfondet, and evaluation. 1. Summary The Conference on Frontiers of Corporate Finance was held on June 13-14, 2013. The conference program is in the attached file.1 The keynote speakers were Professors Espen Eckbo from Dartmouth College, http://mba.tuck.dartmouth.edu/pages/faculty/espen.eckbo/ , and David Yermack from New York University, http://people.stern.nyu.edu/dyermack/ . Both professors are internationally renowned experts in the field of corporate finance, and Directors of important Centers for Corporate Governance at their universities. This was the first time that both keynote speakers attended the same conference in Norway. The conference was motivated by outstanding challenges in corporate finance research, as well as the practical issue of understanding the exploding salaries for CEOs in North America and Western Europe versus the more sedate salary growth in Scandinavia. In particular, such rapidly increasing salaries may have been partially funded by excessively risky investments, hence precipitating the recent financial crisis. Moreover, large CEO salaries exacerbate the wealth inequality that plagues much of the global economy. We were privileged to receive participation from both Norwegian and international researchers. Norwegian participants included colleagues from the University of Bergen, University of Stavanger, and Norwegian School of Business (BI). International participants attended from City University of New York, Copenhagen Business School, Dartmouth College, Fordham University, Hunter College, and New York University.

Although the issues related to the motivation of entrepreneurs have been widely studied, there are a few studies focusing on the differences in women’s entrepreneurial motivation in countries with different levels of market economy development. Furthermore, existing studies on female founders mainly adapt the concepts that have often been developed in male-dominated paradigm. The purpose of this paper is to explore in depth motivations of female entrepreneurs in different contexts and discover the dissimilarities in women’s entrepreneurial motivations in countries with different levels of economic development. Design/methodology/approach – The qualitative research approach is applied in this study to explore the social-driven and profit-driven motives of female entrepreneurs. The authors have employed purposeful sampling to select cases. The authors investigated the motivations of 45 female entrepreneurs in Norway (12), Russia (21) and Ukraine (12). Semi-structured interviews were used to collect primary data. The authors have also triangulated the data collected from interviews with the data available on the internet, company reports and newspaper publications.
