Since the beginning of 2014, we have expanded from Northern California to 19 states, coast to coast (24 by the end of January 2018), touching the lives of 30,000 young men and women. We have sent over 200 young men and women to college with a 95% graduation rate, have provided hundreds of summer golf Letter from the Outgoing President jobs, and caddie loops. And we have provided nearly 600,000 subsidized rounds of golf for young men and women, most of whom would not be able to play, and would not have access, without this program. 2017 Results 2017 also saw the addition of a national development director, constant interaction and travel to visit and coach partner state associations, and the hosting of our first National Summit in Monterey, which brought our partner associations together to learn how to do what we do. Of Individual Contributors all the goals we have achieved, the one which amazes me most is watching our partners change from a disparate group of state and 2017 BOARD regional golf associations, to a community of people from all over OF DIRECTORS Gifts in Honor and in Memory the country with a common and noble goal: to make golf, and all it can do for a young man or woman, accessible to almost anyone.     GOLF IS ONCE AGAIN A FAMILY AFFAIR AT THE 2020 CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS Park Ridge, Illinois, October 8, 2020 By Dennis LaLiberty Patrick Keegan of Morris Country Club fashioned a steady one over par round to earn a slim but solid victory in the Richard E. Peterson Champion of Champions tournament played at Park Ridge Country Club. There was plenty of competition as 72 golfers stepped up to the first tee, with three competitors finishing at two over par, just one stroke behind Keegan, who spent a nervous 60 minutes as leader in the clubhouse while his closest competitors were still out on the course. Keegan designed his game plan after one practice round the previous Sunday and executed it with workmanlike consistency. As so often happens, it was the Park Ridge course’s “Last Mile,” the four finishing holes, which proved decisive. The 18th hole did take its toll on Keegan, who came to the tee at even par and left at one over after his third bogey in a round that featured birdies at #’s 2 and 13, with the previous two bogies coming at #’s 7 and 10. For most of the day it looked as if Brian Hickey of Edgewood Valley Country Club might become the second lefthander to win since Park Ridge became the host club, but the final two holes proved his undoing. Hickey came to #17 at one under par and left #18 at two over after a double at #17 and bogey at #18. Hickey’s playing partner, Brian Barrett of Royal Melbourne entered the “Last Mile” at plus one, but recorded bogey at #15, then just missed a redeeming 6 footer for birdie at #16, which, after he played the last two holes in regulation, produced his two over round.

    THE GOLF COURSE ARCHITECTS OF PARK RIDGE The Story of the men who shaped the Park Ridge Country Club Golf Course PREFACE When the game of golf and its golf courses had their beginnings in the United States in the late 1800s, there was no such thing as a golf course architect per se. Virtually all of those who “laid out” the rudimentary courses on which the game was played were players of the game, some professional and some amateur, and they continued in the dual role of player-designer. It wasn’t until the second decade of the 20th century that golf course design began to separate itself as a singular career, a career that blossomed into the glorious title of golf course architect in the “Golden Age” of the 1920s. The primary designers (architects) of the Park Ridge Country Club golf course followed the early pattern. H.J. Tweedie was both an active player and course designer until his untimely death in 1906. Tom Bendelow was the first to emphasize course design over playing as he traversed the country laying out courses. In 1918, William Langford became the first Park Ridge architect to form his own course design firm. David Esler was formally educated in landscape architecture. He interrupted an early career as a golf course architect to take a stab at professional golf, but quickly returned to form a course design company. The objective of this document is to provide additional information about the careers of the course architects who formed today’s Park Ridge golf course.

Campbell, defeated an Englishman Donald Ball for the Philadelphia Open title. 1906 The Philadelphia Cricket Club’s professional, Donald Ball, won the Philadelphia Open. 1907 Alex Ross returned to capture the U.S. Open at the Philadelphia Cricket Club’s St. Martins Course. 1908 Jack Campbell won his third Philadelphia Open in six tries and Donald Ball finished 12 th in the U.S.

For well over a century, the Western Amateur has provided some of the best competition in golf, amateur or professional. It draws on research conducted by delving into old newspaper files, and by going through the Western Golf Association’s own Western Amateur files, which date to 1949.
