  • Ron Arnst's HMG Course Collection Summaries
HISTORY MAKER GOLF Championship Golf Game • Course Summaries Course Collection ONE Blackjack GC, Las Vegas NV / based on TPC SUMMERLIN TPC Summerlin’s layout, carved from a magnificent swath of rugged desert terrain by renowned golf course architect Bobby Weed, provides a good reference for the Blackjack GC. TPC Summerlin’s lush bentgrass greens, numerous water features and an abundance of pine trees all contrast dramatically with undisturbed desert washes. The course features four closing holes that deliver top flight golf drama. The final charge begins with the par 4, 15th hole – a drivable par 4 that will temp most players. If the tee shot misses the green, an “up and down” birdie is possible, but not easy, due to the severely elevated and undulated green – which is surrounded by five bunkers that regularly attract stray tee shots. The 16th hole is a relatively downhill par-5 that is reachable with two good shots. The green is guarded by water short of the green, and bunkers beyond. Only a mid-iron will be necessary for the second shot, with a birdie almost a certainty. A challenging and un-nerving par-3, the 17th hole plays downhill with the green guarded closely by a lake on the left and by bunkers on the right. Par is good score and birdies are rare, should players need to make up ground. The 18th is a well-designed and strategic finishing hole which moves right to left off the tee. The green is protected on the left by a lake. An aggressive tee shot with the driver can leave the player just a short iron to a very deep green from front to back.

  • Golf Is Once Again a Family Affair at the 2020 Champion of Champions
GOLF IS ONCE AGAIN A FAMILY AFFAIR AT THE 2020 CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS Park Ridge, Illinois, October 8, 2020 By Dennis LaLiberty Patrick Keegan of Morris Country Club fashioned a steady one over par round to earn a slim but solid victory in the Richard E. Peterson Champion of Champions tournament played at Park Ridge Country Club. There was plenty of competition as 72 golfers stepped up to the first tee, with three competitors finishing at two over par, just one stroke behind Keegan, who spent a nervous 60 minutes as leader in the clubhouse while his closest competitors were still out on the course. Keegan designed his game plan after one practice round the previous Sunday and executed it with workmanlike consistency. As so often happens, it was the Park Ridge course’s “Last Mile,” the four finishing holes, which proved decisive. The 18th hole did take its toll on Keegan, who came to the tee at even par and left at one over after his third bogey in a round that featured birdies at #’s 2 and 13, with the previous two bogies coming at #’s 7 and 10. For most of the day it looked as if Brian Hickey of Edgewood Valley Country Club might become the second lefthander to win since Park Ridge became the host club, but the final two holes proved his undoing. Hickey came to #17 at one under par and left #18 at two over after a double at #17 and bogey at #18. Hickey’s playing partner, Brian Barrett of Royal Melbourne entered the “Last Mile” at plus one, but recorded bogey at #15, then just missed a redeeming 6 footer for birdie at #16, which, after he played the last two holes in regulation, produced his two over round.

WHISTLING STRAITS® FACTS “I should say this with some degree of modesty. But in my lifetime, I’ve never seen anything like this. Anyplace. Period.” Pete Dye, World Golf Hall of Fame Designer Blackwolf Run® and Whistling Straits A throwback to the raw freshness of Ireland sculpted into the Wisconsin coastline, Whistling Straits is part of Destination Kohler in Kohler, Wisconsin. Located off the shore of Lake Michigan, Whistling Straits is comprised of two, 18-hole championship golf courses that continue to challenge the best professional and amateur golfers around the world. Arguably the best golf experience in America, these Pete Dye-designed courses continue to be ranked at the top of the list of “America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses” by Golf Digest. CHAMPIONSHIPS – PAST & FUTURE EVENTS 2020 Ryder Cup will be hosted on The Straits® at Whistling Straits. 2015 PGA Championship was hosted on The Straits. This was the third time the PGA Championship was hosted on The Straits and the championship didn’t disappoint. On Sunday afternoon two of the world’s best, Jason Day and Jordan Spieth, battled for the Wannamaker Trophy. Day fired an impressive final round 67 to beat Spieth by 3 shots and capture the 2015 PGA Championship title, his first major championship. The 2010 PGA Championship was hosted on The Straits. This was the second time the PGA Championship was hosted on The Straits, and for the second time on this riveting and unforgiving course, the winner had to be determined by a playoff. With the sun setting quickly and a nerve-wracking three-hole playoff between Martin Kaymer and Bubba Watson, it was Kaymer who pulled through for the win.

Since the beginning of 2014, we have expanded from Northern California to 19 states, coast to coast (24 by the end of January 2018), touching the lives of 30,000 young men and women. We have sent over 200 young men and women to college with a 95% graduation rate, have provided hundreds of summer golf Letter from the Outgoing President jobs, and caddie loops. And we have provided nearly 600,000 subsidized rounds of golf for young men and women, most of whom would not be able to play, and would not have access, without this program. 2017 Results 2017 also saw the addition of a national development director, constant interaction and travel to visit and coach partner state associations, and the hosting of our first National Summit in Monterey, which brought our partner associations together to learn how to do what we do.

  • 081320 Bridgestone SENIOR PLAYERS Charitable Donation
FOR RELEASE: August 13, 2020 CONTACTS: Laura Vescovi, PGA TOUR, 904-465-5924, [email protected] Alissa Kiktavy, Falls, 216-696-0229, [email protected] Area charities to receive $750,000 as a result of the 2020 Bridgestone SENIOR PLAYERS Championship AKRON, Ohio – Tournament officials announced today that $750,000 in charitable funds has been generated from the 2020 Bridgestone SENIOR PLAYERS Championship which returns to Firestone Country Club this week, August 12-16. Combined with contributions raised at the major championship’s 2019 debut at Firestone Country Club, the tournament has generated over $1.5 million for deserving charities in Northeast Ohio to date. “Professional golf in Northeast Ohio has always been about more than just golf, and in the face of a pandemic that mission stands true more than ever,” said Executive Director Don Padgett. “For decades professional golf has aided in developing a charitable footprint in our region that positively impacts worthy causes. Although the 2020 tournament looks and feels different with fans unable to attend, we are proud to continue making a difference that will be felt by each of the deserving non-profit organizations. Thank you to our title sponsor Bridgestone, Founding Partners Westfield and FirstEnergy and all tournament supporters for making this possible.” Although the annual Ambassador of Golf Event presented by the FirstEnergy Foundation was not able to be held this year due to COVID-19, the Bridgestone SENIOR PLAYERS continues to raise funds and awareness for charities including Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, Akron Children’s Hospital, The First Tee of Greater Akron, Summa Health System, Cleveland Clinic Akron General, University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, United Way of Summit & Medina Counties and the Lebron James Family Foundation.
