CD-ROM of this document plus images obtained to date - 1 - - 2 - 1.0 INTRODUCTION The Fish River Water Supply Scheme [FRWS] is a medium size but important water supply with the headwaters in the Central Highlands of NSW, west of the Great Dividing Range and to the south of Oberon. It supplies water in an area from Oberon, north to Portland, Mount Piper Power Station and beyond, and east, across the Great Dividing Range, to Wallerawang town, Wallerawang Power Station, Lithgow and the Upper Blue Mountains. It is the source of water for many small to medium communities, including Rydal, Lidsdale, Cullen Bullen, Glen Davis and Marrangaroo, as well as many rural properties through which its pipelines pass. It was established by Act of Parliament in 1945 as a Trading Undertaking of the NSW State Government. The FRWS had its origins as a result of the chronic water supply problems of the towns of Lithgow, Wallerawang, Portland and Oberon from as early as 1937, which were exacerbated by the 1940-43 drought.

<iframe src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/ns.html?id=GTM-5L9VKK" height="0" width="0" style="display:none;visibility:hidden"></iframe> Innamincka Regional Reserve About Check the latest Desert Parks Bulletin (https://cdn.environment.sa.gov.au/parks/docs/desert-parks-bulletin- 21092021.pdf) before visiting this park. Innamincka Regional Reserve is a park of contrasts. Covering more than 1.3 million hectares of land, ranging from the life-giving wetlands of the Cooper Creek system to the stark arid outback, the reserve also sustains a large commercial beef cattle enterprise, and oil and gas fields. The heritage-listed Innamincka Regional Reserve park headquarters and interpretation centre gives an insight into the natural history of the area, Aboriginal people, European settlement and Australia's most famous explorers, Burke and Wills. From the interpretation centre, visit the sites where Burke and Wills died, and the historic Dig Tree site (QLD) which once played a significant part in their ill-fated expedition. Shaded by the gums, the waterholes provide a relaxing place for a spot of fishing or explore the creek further by canoe or boat. Opening hours Open daily. Hello members and friends, Yet again we have enjoyed a very successful year. Although the Society has been running for over 30 years, our membership has remained stable and has even increased slightly in recent years, reflecting a continuing enthusiasm for and appreciation of the earth sciences and related activities. A background in geology is not a prerequisite to membership and every member is strongly encouraged to take part regardless of their level of knowledge. Although the initial aim of the Society was the exploration and understanding of Hunter Valley geolo- gy, for several years now we have continued to widen our coverage well beyond the confines of the Valley. Even so, while the organizing committee tries to include new activities into the program each year, this is becoming more difficult. But new members bring new ideas and new experiences which everyone can benefit from. Occasionally old sites are revisited, either for the benefit of new members or where the availability of new information has allowed a greater understanding of earth history. Our first extended excursion was organized (with some trepidation) into the Flinders Ranges in 1995, but this was so successful that similar trips have since taken place annually.

Photo: David White Walk Safely—Walk with a Club The Official Publication of Bushwalking NSW Inc From the Volume 42, Issue 1, 2017 ISSN 0313 2684 editor’s desk. OK, THERE has been a bit of a change here. We are of course dependent on you our readers for articles, but the supply has dried up. We have not published any Editor: Roger Caffin issues this year so far. So I have raked together what I could for a final print [email protected] issue: this one. I guess it is ‘So long and thanks for all the fish’. Graphic Design & Assembly: The front cover needs some explanation. You may have noticed a ‘blue gnome’ Barry Hanlon somewhere on almost all front covers - my wife, she likes blue. Editor’s privilege. So this Proofreader: Roy Jamieson front cover is a portrait of the two of us having morning tea and coffee on a scarp on Mt Blanche, to say farewell. OK, but why is Sue laughing her head off? Well, I had set the camera up on a little Joby Bushwalking NSW Officers: tripod, pressed the shutter with a 10 second delay, and scuttled back to sit down. President: Alex Allchin Unfortunately, in my haste I had ‘kicked the bucket’, and sent the kettle which had been Executive Officer: Kirsten Mayer sitting on the stove next to me flying. That's it out front - now empty. The windscreen is [email protected] also off to the side.
