The Offical Race Program of the Tour Du Teche II October 7-9, 2011 ‘Qukx Caad ki nuudina’ The Offical Race Program of the Tour du Teche II October 7-9, 2011 C’est pas juste une course! It’s not just a race. Or, as Tour du Teche executive director Nicole Patin puts it, “It’s a party interrupted by a race.” Tour du Teche II, which begins in Port Barre on Friday, Oct. 7, and winds its way down the Bayou Teche to Berwick on Sunday, Oct. 9, is a race for canoes, kayaks and pirogues. Partici- pants are coming from both ends of the nation and from all over the state to vie for prize mon- ey, bragging rights and adventure. But it’s also celebration of the Teche Country, the bayou with its sultry beauty, the food and music and joie de vivre of the people. Many of the racers who participated in the first Tour du Teche last year said they were bowled over by the enthusiasm of the spectators lining the banks, urging the paddlers on, echoing the refrain “Where y’all from?” from backyard decks, city parks and bridge spans. This year, with the race staged – i.e. starting afresh each morning like the Tour de France – there will be food, music and dancing in the streets in Port Barre, St. Martinville, Franklin, Berwick, and probably two or three other places along the way. Inside you will find a roster of this year’s rac- ers, a schedule of events and guide to watching the race. Let’s give a warm south Louisiana welcome to the paddlers. In the language of the Chitim- acha, who lived on these banks before history was written and whose legend gave the bayou its name, Qukx Caad ki nuudina: “They ride on snake (Qukx, now rendered as “Teche”) bayou.” 2 - Tour du Teche II, Port Barre, La. to Berwick, La. - Official Race Program Tour du Teche II, Port Barre, La. to Berwick, La. - Official Race Program - 3 — Where are y’all from? — Breaux Bridge And, Wright pulled out of the race partner Grady Reed on Saturday at Unlimited on Saturday at 5:55 a.m. Hebert is 10:43 a.m. with a finish time of 26 CDB Kent Hanes new to the race. hours and 30 minutes. 6, Tour du Teche 9, Tour du Teche “Inglorious Bas- “Glory Days” tards” Butch Bailey, 60, Wendell Smith, 43, Little Rock, Arkan- Seguin, Texas 6 sas Ryan Tres, 42, Solo Canoe Seguin, Texas TOURCDB BeckyDUTECHE Bailey Unlimited CDB Mark Miller 10, Tour du Teche 1 “Sadie” 1, Tour du Teche 7, Tour du Teche Martin Clausen, 38, “Illinois Brigade” “Le Launcer de la Breaux Bridge Tave Lamperez, 51, St. Charles, 5 Terre” Solo Canoe Illinois & Wally Werderich, 38, Yor- Lance Bospflug, 56, CDB unknown kville, Illinois Lafayette TOUR DUTECHE USCA C-2 Racing 5, Tour du Teche Terry Butts, 41, 11, Tour du Teche DU CDB Paul Delcambre & George “UnderTaker” TOURLafayette TECHE “No Name” Werderich Andre Pellerin, 35, Breaux Bridge USCA C-2 Racing Keith Guidry, 55, St. TDT veterans, Lamperez and Werd- Steven Wright, 36, Breaux Bridge CDB Judy Bospflug Martinville erich finished on Saturday at 5:36 Dillon Angelle, 18, Breaux Bridge TDT veterans, Bospflug and Butts Solo Canoe a.m. with a finish time of 21 hours Randy Usie, 48, Arnaudville finished on Saturday at 9:42 p.m. CDB Delia Guidry DU and 24 minutes. In Cincinnati, Grigor Dimitrov (26) beat Nick Kyrgios (22). That was also the last final between two players making their ATP Masters 1000 championship match debut. The last time this happened at the Rolex Paris Masters was in 2012 when David Ferrer beat qualifier Jerzy Janowicz for his first ATP Masters 1000 title. If Krajinovic wins, Pablo Carreno Busta will earn the final spot for the Nitto ATP Finals in London. The last time a player qualified for the year-end Finals by needing to win the Paris title was Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in 2008 (d. The victim, a Winston-Salem resident, told university security she was returning to her car parked in the Palmer lot after she left an off campus party on Polo Road sponsored by the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity when the at tacker knocked her down and attempted to rape her. She said she struggled with her assailant until he got up and ran away, according to the university security report , Though emotionally shaken, the victim did not require any medical attention for physical injuries, said Bob Prince, the director of uni versity security. The woman found her friends ..in Piccolo Residence Hall and they contacted Joe Ellison, a Palmer residence advisor, at about 2:15 a.m. He called Mike Pratapas, the Palmer hall di rector, who reported the incident to security at about 2:30a.m. University security responded and called the Winston-Salem Police for as sistance.
