The Complete Skywald Checklist This index is as complete as possible given Skywald’s custom of often dropping credits off stories, hiding credits in the art of the story {mostly under Hewetson’s reign—in windowsills, gables, panel borders, as debris, etc.}, the heavy use of pseudomyns & single names and the miscrediting of stories to the wrong artist. Many of the mysteries regarding credits have been solved by access to Al Hewetson’s notes & checklists as well as the extensive aid of Christos N. Gage. Check out the end of the bibliography for interviews with Al Hewetson, Ed Fedory, Augustine Funnell & Maelo Cintron. You’ll be glad you did! Nightmare 1. cover: Brendan Lynch? Especially in 2019, it is viewed as a highly polarized sector of society sometimes hostile to those on the right side of the aisle. But just because the majority of those who work in Hollywood are liberal, that doesn’t necessarily mean our entertainment follows suit. I argue in my thesis that entertainment in Hollywood is far less partisan than people think it is and moreover, that our entertainment represents plenty of conservative themes and ideas. In doing so, I look at a combination of markets and artistic demands that restrain the politics of those in the entertainment industry and even create space for more conservative productions. Although normally art and markets are thought to be in tension with one another, in this case, they conspire to make our entertainment less one-sided politically. -

Bilko, M*A*S*H and the Heyday of U.S. Military Sitcoms (1955-75) Dennis Tredy 1 If the title of this paper quotes part of the refrain from Edwin Starr’s 1970 protest song, “War,” the song’s next line, proclaiming that war is good for “absolutely nothing” seems inaccurate, at least in terms of successful television sitcoms of from the 1950s to the 1970s. In fact, while Starr’s song was still an anti-Vietnam War battle cry, ground- breaking television programs like M*A*S*H (CBS, 1972-1983) were using laughter and tongue-in-cheek treatment of the horrors of war to provide a somewhat more palatable expression of the growing anti-war sentiment to American audiences. -
