The Series Trinity leads 4-3 Trinity University Tigers (2-1) In the polls -- The Cru climbed two spots to #2 in the country in this week’s D3football. 9/1 Howard Payne Univ. UMHB was also ranked #2 in the nation 9/8 @Texas Lutheran W 31-7 in the fi rst AFCA Division III Top 25 Poll of the 2012 season and received one fi rst place 9/15 @Sul Ross State L 35-62 9/22 UMHB 6:00 vote in that poll. This is the fi rst time UMHB has received fi rst place votes in either poll. 9/29 Rhodes College 6:00 The Cru was picked to win the ASC in the league’s annual preseason coaches’ poll. 10/13 @Birmingham-South. 12:00 The Tigers are still receiving votes in this week’s D3football.com Top 25 Poll 10/20 @Centre College 2:30 but plummeted out of the top 25 after ranking 11th last week. UMHB grabbed an early lead before a Wesley TD pass made it 6-3 with 5:06 left in the fi rst quarter. LiDarral Bailey ran for a TD, the Cru scored a safety and Bailey hit Darius Wilson with a 16-yard scoring pass to make it 19-6. The Wolverines added a TD late in the fi rst half and then scored on the opening possession of the second half to tie the game at 19. Bailey would fi nd Wilson with a 13-yard touchdown pass and added a one-yard TD run on fourth-and-goal to put the Cru on top 32-19. Wesley would add a TD midway through the fourth quarter to close to within 32-25, but the UMHB defense stepped up from there to preserve the victory. Bailey threw for 138 yards and two scores and ran for 34 yards and two more scores. Wilson had 84 rushing yards on 24 carries and caught six passes for 76 yards and a pair of scores. Javicz Jones led the Cru defense with eight tackles and Silvio Diaz had three sacks and a forced fumble. UMHB out gained the Wolverines 320-290 in total offense in the victory. You can read more about that win inside this release. Trinity University is coming off a 62-35 thrashing at the hands of Sul Ross State last Saturday in Alpine. The two teams traded touchdowns in the early going before the Lobos scored the fi nal ten points of the fi rst half to take a 31-21 halftime lead. The Tigers had no answer defensively in the second half, giving up four touchdown passes and a fi eld goal. Trinity rolled up 533 yards of total offense with 176 of those coming on the ground, but the Tigers were gashed for 655 yards of offense in the loss. Trinity also turned the ball over three times and did not force a turnover. Patrick Granchelli ran for 126 yards and two touchdowns for Trinity and Nyk McKissic and Mason Blaschke combined to go 24-37 passing for 357 yards and two touchdowns. Mason Lytal caught seven passes for 110 yards and a score. Nick Darling had 10 tackles to lead the Trinity defense and Tomy Boboy posted the only sack of the game for the Tigers. Trinity allowed Sul Ross quarterback A.J. Springer to complete 32 of 41 passes for 481 yards and six scores. Dominique Carson also added 128 rushing yards and the Tigers surrendered 100-yard receiving days to three different Lobo receivers in the loss. The Head Coaches -- The Cru is under the direction of head coach Pete Fredenburg. Fredenburg (Southwest Texas State, 1970) is in his 15th season as the only head coach in the history of the UMHB football program. He has led The Cru to a 135- 33 overall record and nine ASC championships. Fredenburg led The Cru to the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl in 2004 and UMHB has qualifi ed for the NCAA Division III National Championships ten times. Fredenburg is 20-9 against non-conference opponents, 62-21 in road games and 3-4 against Trinity University in his career at UMHB. The Cru is 18-10 in the NCAA Division III National Championships under Fredenburg. He is a six-time ASC Coach of the Year and is a fi ve-time AFCA Region III Coach of the Year. Fredenburg spent 13 years as an assistant coach at Baylor University, one season as an assistant at Louisiana State University and served as defensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech University for three seasons prior to join- ing UMHB. Steve Mohr (Denison University, 1976) is in his 23rd season as the head coach at Trinity University. Mohr has a 176-67 career record with the Tigers and he has guided Trinity University to 15 SCAC championships, 12 NCAA Division III National Championships appearances, three appearances in the National Semifi nals and a berth in the 2002 Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. Mohr is an 11-time SCAC Coach of the Year and has been voted AFCA Region III Coach of the Year fi ve times. He has also been an assistant coach at Ithaca University and Findlay University. He has a 4-3 career record against the Cru as a head coach. The All-Time Series -- Trinity leads the all-time series 4-3 and the Tigers have a 3-2 edge in games played in San Antonio. Trinity has never lost to the Cru in the regular season, winning both match-ups in the fi rst two years of UMHB football (1998 and 1999). The Tigers also hold the distinction of winning the fi rst game in the history of Cru football, taking a 37-14 win in the 1998 season opener at E.M. Stevens Stadium. UMHB has won two straight meetings in San Antonio, posting victories in the 2004 and 2005 playoffs. The Cru has won three straight over the Tigers overall, also capturing the 2007 postseason meet- ing between the two teams in Belton. The Cru On The Radio -- All UMHB football games will be broadcast on KTEM radio (1400 AM) this season. The broad- cast will start 30 minutes before game time. Long-time broadcaster Jimmy Christopher takes over play-by-play duties this season with former UMHB offensive coordinator George Haffner once again handling color commentary. The KTEM broad- cast will also be available over the Internet on the UMHB athletic department web site.

    TOURNAMENT PREVIEW Gustavus Adolphus College is set to host the 13th annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Division III Indoor Championship at the Swanson Tennis Center in St. Peter, Minnesota. Seven of the top 15 teams in NCAA Division III men’s tennis will square off to determine the 2013 ITA National Indoor Champion. Emory University of Atlanta, Georgia (#1 in the most recent ITA Diision III poll) looks to defend its 2012 National Indoor Championship this year as the No. 1 seed entering the tournament. The Eagles have won the title the past two years and are striving for a record third straight ITA Indoor crown.
