PHOEBE BUTTON Twenty-four RACONTEUR History of the School HE Morehead State Normal School and Teachers College is the suc­ T cessor of the Morehead Normal School, which was founded in 1887 with Mrs. Phoebe Button and her son, F . C. Button, as teachers, with one pupil in attendance the first day. The liberality of General William T. 'Vithers, of Lexington, Kentucky, made the school possible; the generosity of Hon. T. F. Hargis, of Louisville, Kentucky, provided for the first school house and the grounds for all the buildings; and a gift from Robert Hodson and wife, of Oquawka, Illinois, afforded the basis of a fund for the erection of a boarding hall. For thirteen years the school was supported by the Kentucky Christian Missionary Society. On July 3 I, 1900, it passed under the control of the Christian Women's Board of Missions. Under this management the school continued till 1922 when the school property was deeded to the Common­ wealth of Kentucky. The General Assembly of Kentucky in 1920 enacted a law providing for an educational survey of the State by a commission of five persons, ap­ pointed by the Governor, which was to report its findings, with recom­ mendations, to the Governor. The commission, composed of Dr. 1,l-.,T. A. Ganfield, President of Centre College, Danville, Chairman; Alex G. Bar­ ret, lawyer and member of the Louisville Board of Education, Louisville; J. L.. Harmon, President of the Bowling Green Business University, Bowling Green; C. J. Hayden, President of the Springfield Board of Edu­ cation, Springfield; and Miss Katie McDaniel, formerly County Superin­ tendent of Christian Cou~1ty Schools, Hopkinsville, secured from the Gen­ eral Education Board, of New York Ci.ty, the services of a staff of experts under ~he direction of Dr. Frank P. Bachman, and after a survey extending over a period of fifteen months, made its report to the Governor in 1921. Among other recommendations was one for the establishment of two normal schools for the training of white elementary teachers one in Eastern Ken­ tucky, and cne in Western Kentucky. Acting under this recommendation the General Assembly of 1922 passed an act providing for the establishment of two Normal Schools for the training of white elementary teachers, and appropriating money for the maintenance and operation thereof. This act further provided that a com­ mission of eight persons, five to be appointed by the speaker of the House of Representatives, who was Hon. J. H:. Thompson, of Bourbon county, and three by the Lieutenant Governor, who was the Hon. S. Thruston Bal­ lard, of Louisville should select locations for the two schools. The Lieutenant Governor designated as members of the commission Prof. J. L. Harmon, President of the Bowling Green Business Univer­ sity; Hon. Alex G. Barret, lawyer and distinguished citizen of Louisville; Twenty-five RACONTEUR and Judge Arthur Peter, lawyer and former Judge of Jefferson county. The Speaker of the House designated as members of the commission Judge Ed. C. O'Rear, former Chief Justice of the Court of Appeals; Hon. Thomas A. Combs, former State Senator and prominent business man, of Lexington; Hon. Sherman Goodpaster, former State Treasurer, of Frank­ fort; Hon. W. S. Wallen, Jawyer and legislator, of Prestonburg; and Hon. Earl" W. On his mother's side, his grandfather was Jose de la Cueva, a famous Andalusian journalist. He was a remarkable athlete, and he played goalkeeper for the junior Real Madrid soccer team. He wanted to be a professional soccer player, but he never abandoned his studies. He studied Law in the Complutense University of Madrid. On the night of 22nd September 1963, while returning from Majadahonda to Madrid about two o'clock in the morning with some friends, he suffered a very severe car accident which left him semi-paralyzed for more than a year and a half. The hope that he would walk again was very slight. To develop and increase the dexterity of his hands he started to play the guitar and write poetry. His personal will to live, and the great support of his family, especially of his father, who even abandoned his profession for more than a year to help his son's rehabilitation, produced a true miracle. After many months of very difficult recuperation Julio began to walk again. Once recovered, he resumed his studies and travelled to England to study English, first in Ramsgate and then went on to Bell's Language School in Cambridge.

Con un gemido ronco, lo arrojé a la calzada y salí de allí como alma que lleva el diablo. ¡No pensaba volver! ¡Al demonio aquella chica con su nombre de canción y sus misterios! ¡Al diablo sus cálidos besos, su piel sedosa, sus brazos envolventes! ¡Ni siquiera volvería nunca más por el bar de la plaza!     IN PARTNERSHIP WITH WEEK 5 EXTENDED MATERIAL AVANT PETALOS GRILLADOS BY VELASCO BROCA DIRECTOR’S BIO FILM REVIEW Comics, music, film direction: Velasco Broca is one of the most eclectic and versatile figures of this time. Born in 1978 in the province of Álava in the Basque Country, made his entry at Avant Pétalos Grillados just 18 years old with Footsy: filmed on Super-8, it explores the fetishistic obsessions of a (SPANISH) FILM REVIEW socially repressed man. In May 2002 his second short-film Der Milchshorf (La Costa Lactea) is broadcasted in the TVE (Spanish National TV), where the introducer describes it as « the most Avant Pétalos Grillados weird short-film shown by this programme ». In 2004 Broca writes and directs Kinky Hoodoo (SPANISH) ROMAN-TIME Voodoo, showed at the Sitges and San Sebastian Festivals. Such talented and crazy personality could not become associated with Nacho Vigalondo caves in La Rioja settings for (check out Vigalondo’s film 7.35 de la mañana in the CinemaAttic Cuarantena 3). In 2007 Broca’s new movie the duo released the pilot episode of a television series, which has since become a cult, Las (SPANISH) INTERVIEW aventuras galácticas de Jaime de Funes y Arancha. Broca was the first Spanish filmmaker to be invited in the Directors’ Fortnight (Quinzaine) About his first successes section at the Cannes Festival in 36 years, when he presented Avant Pétalos Grillados in 2007. He won the Malaga Film Festival and the Buenos Aires Festival of Independent Cinema with Nuesta Amiga la Luna (Our Friend the Moon) and achieved great success with the following long-feature Ayudar al Ojo Humano (Helping the Human Sight) in 2017, winning the Hermetic Film Festival.

    14 www.wamba.org ¿Te acuerdas de…? “La Televisión de los años 70” a televisión se convirtió en el espectáculo preferido de la sociedad española de los años 70. Y es que el país iba a sufrir cambios radicales cada dos por tres y la mejor manera de vivirlo sin que a uno le L salpicara era presenciarlo desde el sofá de casa. La Primera Cadena de TVE llegaba a todos los rincones pero el UHF todavía era una "delicatessen" apta únicamente para los más privilegiados. Precisamente, el programa que más llamó la atención a principios de la década, se emitía por el "canalillo", como se denominaba a la 2. Se trataba del espacio de entrevistas de José María Íñigo, "Estudio abierto". Y su título respondía a la realidad del show ya que por su plató podía desfilar desde la anciana del pueblo que corría delante de los toros de Cuéllar a los más ilustres invitados internacionales, tales que Anthony Quinn, Ava Gardner o Charlton Heston. Iñigo se convertiría en el presentador incombustible de estos años con programas del mismo corte pero diferente título. Le seguiría en el 75 "Directísimo" con el momento memorable de Uri Geller paralizando el país al doblar cucharas y hacer andar relojes que llevaban parados un tiempo. La psicosis popular se adueñó y consiguió transmitir sus poderes a los hogares patrios. Su impacto lo demuestra la portada del periódico ABC al día siguiente de la emisión. E Iñigo se trasladó a la sala de fiestas Florida Park para hacer su "Esta noche fiesta" más musical y con famosos en el graderío.

    Es un programa de animación para personas mayores, que ha unido a diferentes instituciones y entidades municipales y comarcales, creándose un equipo de trabajo para proponer estas actividades, compuesto por una psicóloga y terapeuta ocupacional (Comarca Andorra-Sierra de Arcos), profesora del Centro de Educación de Personas Adultas de Andorra , Directora del Hogar de Personas Mayores y trabajador social del Centro de Salud de Andorra, participando también Televisión Local de Andorra, Ayuntamientos, Programa Disfruta de la Experiencia, centros educativos y otros profesionales de estas entidades. Con las actividades que se han ido proponiendo hemos elaborado este documento. Si os gusta, os animamos a seguirnos diariamente.     JULIO IGLESIAS Julio José Iglesias De La Cueva nació en Madrid, a las 2 de la tarde del 23 de Septiembre de 1.943, en el antiguo hospital de maternidad de la calle Mesón de Paredes. Es el hijo mayor de Dr. Julio Iglesias Puga y María del Rosario de la Cueva y Perinan, su único hermano se llama Carlos. Por parte paterna, sus antepasados son de Galicia. Su padre, el Dr. Iglesias nació en Orense. Y sus abuelos paternos se llamaban Manuela y Ulpiano. Por parte de su madre, su abuelo José De La Cueva fue un famoso periodista andaluz, y su abuela, Dolores de Perinan Orejuela de Camporedondo era descendiente directa de la nobleza española. Su tío, Marqués de Perinan, y su primo, también marqués, fué Embajador Español en Londres durante 20 años Julio Iglesias era un excelente deportista y jugaba como portero en el equipo de fútbol Real Madrid . Quería ser futbolista profesional mientras estudiaba Derecho en el Colegio Mayor de San Pablo. A sus 20 años, en la noche del 22 de Septiembre de 1.962, mientras volvía de Majadahonda a Madrid con unos amigos: Enrique Clemente Criado, Tito Arroyo y Pedro Luis Iglesias; sobre las 2 de la madrugada, un trágico accidente automovilístico en le dejó semiparalítico durante un año y medio. No había esperanza de que volviera andar. El enfermero que lo cuidaba (Eladio Magdaleno) le regaló una guitarra. Julio pasaba horas enteras oyendo radio y escribiendo poemas. Eran versos tristes y románticos que preguntaban por la misión de los hombres en la vida.
