April 2019 nach Hamburg in die Molotow Skybar Sie spielte bereits auf bedeutenden europäischen Festivals wie Roskilde, Primavera Sound oder auch Haldern Pop und war Anfang 2017 zuletzt auf Tour in Deutschland. Im April 2019 kommt Julia Jacklin zurück, um ihr im Februar erscheinendes, zweites Studioalbum „Crushing“ live zu präsentieren. Ursprünglich aus den australischen Blue Mountains, wuchs sie mit Billy Bragg und Doris Day auf, sang als Kind in Musicals und begann mit Anfang 20 ihre eigenen Lieder zu schreiben. Ihr erstes Album „Don’t Let The Kids Win“, das von der internationalen Presse begeistert aufgenommen wurde, kam im Herbst 2016 heraus. Der Guardian, dessen Musikkritiker sonst eher streng urteilen, nannte es ein „eindrucksvolles Indie-Country-Debut“. Nach der Veröffentlichung tourte Julia Jacklin nahezu pausenlos. So entstand „Crushing“ während eben dieser fast zweijährigen Tourphase und wurde anschließend von Burke Reid, der sich auch schon stilsicher um den Sound von Courtney Barnett oder den Drones gekümmert hat, produziert. Inhaltlich geht es um jede mögliche Bedeutung des Titelwortes „Crushing“. Dabei gehen die Songs in Tiefe und erzählen ergreifend von Liebe und gebrochenen Herzen, von Narretei und von unserer Weltwahrnehmung, die unser Inneres formt und manchmal eben auch verformt. Dennoch wirkt die Musik gar nicht so zerstörerisch wie es der Titel andeutet, ganz im Gegenteil. Ein schlagender Beweis dafür ist der vorab erschienene Song „Head Alone“, der in seiner Schönheit so wundervoll mit seinem Inhalt kontrastiert. Am 11. This financial year will be remembered by all of us for natural disasters including catastrophic bushfires and floods across Australia, a volcanic eruption in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, and now COVID-19. The pain and suffering experienced by so many of our members and licensees over the past 12 months has been far-reaching and terrible. Musicians and the music industry are always amongst the first to lend a hand to support, lift spirits and raise funds to rebuild community. The COVID-19 context has turned the tables and musicians have needed to put a call out for the support of governments and others. Individual and collective resilience has been tested. We’ve all had to cope with dramatic and unpredictable disruption and change. We’ve had to adapt quickly. Our priority over the past 12 months has been to support both our 108,000+ members and 114,000+ licensees. As the bushfires devastated enormous areas of Australia, and then COVID-19 spread across the globe, we moved quickly to provide direct support and advocate to government the plight of those that live and work in the original gig economy.
