Debuting during the band’s annual New Year’s Eve residency at The Orpheum Theater in their hometown of New Orleans, the initial launch will be exclusive to the New Orleans metropolitan area and will grow to NOLA Brewing's entire distribution network. The beer is a slightly bitter, yet juicy American Pale Ale that is heavily dry-hopped with Citra and Simcoe hops coming in at 5% ABV. A portion of the proceeds earned will benefit The Roots of Music Foundation. A cause extremely close to the hearts of The Revivalists as well as NOLA Brewing Company, the foundation is an after-school organization that teaches children from low income neighborhoods how to play music and gives them a hot meal each day. “We are proud to partner with NOLA Brewing Company on this project to give something back to a city that has given us so much. The Roots of Music is a cause that we believe strongly in – to empower children with the music and culture that makes this city so unique. But I see what they mean, there’s an ethereal vulnerability which contrasts to the producers industrial edge.” Says Marie- Claire of Glaswegian atmospheric rock act SEIL LIEN. Due release their debut album ‘Shatter’ on April 17th 2020, SEIL LIEN is one of the most unique artists to come out of Scotland, and the brain child of an uncompromising underground experimentalist. A preview of the record can be heard on the new single ‘It’s Love That Brought You Here’ released today, with an accompanying video available to view on YouTube HERE. WATCH: ‘It’s Love That Brought You Here’ via YouTube With a solid fanbase built up over years of hard graft playing live, SEIL LIEN’s debut album ‘Shatter’ has been a long-awaited follow up to the aptly named ‘A Little While More EP’ released in 2018. Hitting the ground running, SEIL LIEN were thrust into the public eye when in 2018, through the publishing arm of Ninja Tune, the song ‘A Little While More’ was synced in a series of Boots ‘Inspirational Women’ campaign advertisements. Lead member Marie-Claire described the experience as “amazing, unexpected and life affirming!” and the catalyst to get the debut album finished. The final product is eight songs of uncompromising artistry a total of 3 years in the making, and a sound that could be described as the distillation of prolonged periods of improvisation and experimentation.

View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Croatian Digital Thesis Repository University of Rijeka Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka Department of English Matea Lacmanović: Anglophone Music as Poetry Mentor: Lovorka Gruić Grmuša, PhD Rijeka, July 2015 1 Abstract Literature as a whole is usually divided into poetry, prose and drama (Solar 2006: 154) with fairly clear boundaries between them. When it comes to their subdivision and definition of specific literature and art type, the boundaries become unclear and many questions arise. One of the most difficult questions to answer is what poetry is and which criteria must be met in order for some work to be classified as poetry. It is known that authors such as Shakespeare, Byron, Cummings or Angelou are poets and their work is interpreted as poetry. However, can the circle of poetry and art be expanded to similar forms such as contemporary music? That is the topic of this thesis – analysis, explanation and specific examples of modern song lyrics which can be viewed as poetry and something more valuable in the art context than it actually is due to the commercialization of music. With songs performed by Tupac, Garbage, Leonard Cohen, Bill Withers and various artists who belong to different music genres and eras, poetry is broadened and upgraded to the 21st century level. Key words: Anglophone music, music, poetry, lyrics, analysis, literature, art, contemporary, modern, intermediation, authorship 2 Table of Contents Abstract

Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.
