I would like to begin by thanking the more than 2,000 young people who followed our projects in 2017, and I would especially like to congratulate those who found their first job. Their resol- ve and determination is what enables us to look at the future with optimism and to continue thinking about our work that serves as a bridge for people with fewer opportunities. Some of those young participants are mentioned in this report, and the examples they set help improve a stubborn reality. In light of the economic crisis that took place in recent years and despite the signs of recovery shown by certain indicators, youth employment continues to be an obstacle for every 4 out of 10 people under the age of 25. This reality is hard to ignore and its impact is much harsher on at-risk groups who, as a result of dropping out of school and a lack of oppor- tunities, face even more challenges in finding a first job. I would also like to thank the entire Exit team. From those who work directly with participants, to the volunteers and the members of the Board of Trustees and the Advisory Council, they have all placed their trust in the project and helped us undertake this challenge on a daily basis. The only way to achieve the ambitious goals that we had set is to believe in the idea and with everyo- ne’s effort. The values we convey to the young people who participate in our projects have made it possible to be present in 10 Spanish cities as well as to make progress with the projects that are currently in place and by innovating to identify new opportunities. In this sense, the contact between Fundación Exit and the companies that support us has taken different paths over the 17 years of our existence. At a time when innovation refers to joint creation, Exit has learned together and also shared the benefits of job placement and the added value it creates for the companies and employees who participate in the training initiatives. This report is a reflection of everyone’s work, the results for 2017, and the commitment to make training and first jobs a little more accessible to many at-risk youth in 2018. Thank you very much! Rafael Vilasanjuan 11 REPORT 2017 12 REPORT 2017 LETTER FROM 03 THE DIRECTOR Dear friends, According to a quote by Bill Clinton, “Nearly every problem has been solved by someone, so- mewhere. The challenge of the 21st century is to find out what works and scale it up.” In 2017, Fundación Exit was able to replicate its projects in ten Spanish cities (we were present in five in 2015). During the first 15 years of our existence (2000-2015), a total of 3,500 young people participated in our projects, but in 2017 alone, this number reached 2,066. These figures hint at the effort made to fight against two major issues our society faces: youth unemployment and school dropout rates. We double the European Union average for both of these categories. Our challenge is to combine this replication approach with continuous improvement and in- novation in projects. Fortunately, the input we receive from around the country contributes towards this improvement process. Some of the initiatives we are working on include adapting the #coachExit Project to reach SMEs, and in the case of the #eDuoExit Project, we want to fo- cus on the first year of vocational training, which is when most dropouts occur. As part of the #yobExit Project, our aim is to combine training on personal branding and creating a network of contacts into a packaged format that can be integrated in the education offered by high schools and NGOs, with the tremendous added value of our company mentors. Lastly, our goal for 2018 is to launch a new project: an Exit alumni community. It is said that youth lies in inspiration as opposed to memories. Thanks to everyone’s support year after year, Exit has the luxury of sharing projects with young people who reveal the elixir of eternal youth to us on a daily basis. Let’s keep dreaming and inspiring each other.
