Accreditation for the opening of European Capital of Culture 2017 January 21st at Musikhuset Aarhus.

The European Capital of Culture year will be officially opened on Saturday, January 21st with a major event involving speeches, artistic performances and 1,300 invited guests at Aarhus Musikhuset.

The programme will follow, with a full description of events, presentation of artists, etc.

PRESS POOLS

During the event in Musikhuset Aarhus you will have access to a press lounge in Musikhuset's Lille Sal, and four different media pools.

BALKON (Balkonen, Store Sal, Musikhuset) - access to attend the opening show with the Queens speech and artistic performances in Store Sal.

STRØGET (at Lille Sal, Musikhuset) - access to photos and interviews with the official guests: Sponsors, pol- iticians and project owners.

SOULAGE (left side in the Foyer in Musikhuset/entrance near Radisson) - access to photos of special guests (Ministers, Ambassadors) and access to photos of the Queen's arrival

OUTSIDE (at the ice rink in front of Musikhuset) - access to photograph the stage at the ice rink, from where the Queen will set off the parade.

The press entrance is on the right-hand side of Musikhuset, at the entrance facing ARoS

There is no access to the press lounge in Musikhuset Aarhus after 15.00

If you leave the building (Musikhuset Aarhus), you will not be allowed back in. Please make sure to bring all gear with you if you leave Musikhuset, as you will not be able to retrieve it once you are out of the building.

Speakers include HM The Queen, the President of the Aarhus 2017 Foundation, Jacob Bundsgaard, the CEO of Aarhus 2017, Rebecca Matthews, and a presentation of the Faroese composer, Sunleif Ras- mussen's fanfare, More Fair Than the Sun, composed specially for European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017 and Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. The programme, with a full description of events, presentation of artists, etc., will follow.

In STRØGET it will be possible to photograph sponsors, representatives of the 19 municipalities and the Central Region and project managers arriving at Musikhuset.

Subsequent interviews with these guests can also be arranged.

Interviews with guests in the Foyer can only be conducted by contacting Aarhus 2017's staff, who will be pre- sent in Musikhuset. We recommend that you make arrangements with interviewees in advance.

STRØGET

SOULAGE (PINK ACCESS CARD)

Access to take photos when The Prime Minister, other Ministers, Ambassadors and HM Queen Marg- rethe II arrive at Musikhuset.

Location: Side entrance (facing Hotel Radisson), Musikhuset Aarhus

This is the entrance for special guests - including Ministers and foreign Ambassadors. From SOULAGE it is possible to cover the Queen's arrival at Musikhuset Aarhus

Those accredited to SOULAGE cannot move over to STRØGET or BALKON

Photographers and journalists who want to wait while the show is going on in Store Sal will be able to stay in the press lounge in the Lille Sal. Anyone who wishes to stay in the press lounge must be accompanied by a guard to the lounge. Press cannot move freely between Soulage and the press lounge.

OUTSIDE (RED Access Card)

Access to take photos when the Queen opens the public part of the ceremony. Please note that this pool is reserved for photographers (TV, video and still).

19:00 to 19:10: At the ice rink in front of Musikhuset, a small photo pool will be set up suitable for photos of the Queen opening the European Capital of Culture and the start of the procession. There will be access to this pool from 18:40

The procession

Location: From Musikhuset

Time: Saturday, January 21, at 19:00

19:00: From the ice rink in front of Aarhus Musikhuset, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II, along with 80 chil- dren from Engdalsskolen in , will send off a magnificent procession of light. The procession will move off to the accompaniment of a choir singing from the tower of City Hall and striking voice of the Faro- ese singer, Eivör.

Besides the many participants, lanterns and illuminated ships, the audience can also see six vessels 10-12 meters long, decorated with inscriptions from the Jelling Stones and laden with symbols of the most precious things we possess: freedom, welfare and education. Each of the vessels is equipped with speakers and LED lights, and the ships' sails act as canvases, on which spectators can follow the parade and various visual narratives.

The opening ceremony was designed by the visionary British director, Nigel Jamieson, known for his crea- tion of sections of the opening of the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, the artistic direction of the closing ceremony of the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002 and the opening ceremony of the European Capital of Culture, Liverpool 2008. The entire event will be broadcast live on DR1 - likewise from 19:00.

There will be access to three Photo Podiums along the route: At the Train Station, at the Bus Station, at the Habour at Mindet.
