Jill-Marie Thomas Jill-Marie Thomas Is a Passionate Singer- Songwriter, Musician and Performing Artiste Jill-Marie Thomas Jill-Marie Thomas is a passionate singer- songwriter, musician and performing artiste. She enjoys singing and performing for audiences everywhere, big or small. To her, every performance is an opportunity to touch people’s lives with her music, engage her audience, and have a lot of fun. As the first winner of Singapore’s Mediacorp Channel 5 talent competition, “One Moment of Glory ”, Jill is no stranger to the performing arts industry. She was one of the main acts for Mediacorp’s recent annual countdown show, “Celebrate 2011 ” alongside international stars Photo by Marcus Mok like David Tao, One Nation Emcee, and many Photography other local performers, which saw a live audience of around 10,000 people. She also sang for the pre-show where she collaborated with Anugerah Band 2008 winners, Rancour, and was also requested by the National Environment Agency (NEA) to sing their Clean and Green Singapore 2011 theme song - Heaven on Earth . This event was telecasted live over local and international TV stations. This year has seen Jill-Marie Thomas featured as a Guest Celebrity for Mediacorp’s TV gameshow “ We Are Singaporeans ”, as well as perform her original compositions at the Esplanade’s Mosaic Music Station Festival in March 2011. She also sang the theme song on the NEA’s first Eco Music Challenge Album launched in June. Currently, Jill is being featured as the Resident Judge for the OverTime Acoustic Challenge. As a singer-songwriter, Jill has penned numerous compositions, some of which have been featured on a charity album produced by her secondary school for the Dover Hospice; published in 3 original albums produced by her hall of residence, Temasek Hall (NUS); won her 2 nd place in a NUS Songwriting competition; featured on a film made by the NUS Law Faculty students; featured on MediaCorp Production “Shooting Stars” on Channel 5 which was also part of the production’s music album; and has also been requested to be sung at numerous weddings and events. Currently, she is working towards producing her own album soon. Jill-Marie Thomas credits her mother as the person behind her love for music. Games We Play On Singapore Telly In the mid 1990s, Singapore opened its doors to the international broadcasting community. The past four years in particular have seen steady policy-driven liberalisation of its print, television and multimedia industries. This has jumpstarted the local TV production industry and stimulated terrestrial network competition. While the two terrestrial TV networks compete voraciously for a small, fragmented, multilingual and increasingly sophisticated domestic TV audience, the localisation of international TV game show formats like Millionaire and The Weakest Link appear as attractive solutions to consolidate and build the audience base. TV gameshow formats have become one of the ‘formatting’ strategies that this industry employs to develop ‘local knowledge’ and ‘position’ themselves in the battle for audience ratings and eyeballs. This article will present findings and offer new insight into the impact of TV formats on the local television production, programming and audiences in Singapore.

To mark our nation’s 55th birthday, the National Day Parade (NDP) 2020 aims to bring NDP into every Singapore home. Apart from the morning parade at the Padang and the evening show at the Star Performing Arts Centre, NDP2020 will also be brought into the heartlands, through the Red Lions, mobile column, aerial flypasts and firework displays. These activities will also be broadcast live over television and radio channels1, so Singaporeans can enjoy them from the comfort and safety of their homes. NDP2020 Activities Red Lions 2. The Red Lions will be landing at two heartland locations at around 9.00am (weather conditions permitting): a. Open field along Toh Guan Road, near to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital b. Open field along Sengkang East Road, near Sengkang General Hospital State Flag Flypast 3. Following the flypast at the Padang, the State Flag will be flown across Singapore via two routes, from about 10.30am to about 11.25am: a. The Eastern Route will begin at the Padang at 10.35am, and will fly along the southeastern and northeastern coastlines of Singapore. b. The Singapore rights to shows from HKTV subsidiary, Hong Kong Media Production Company Limited, were acquired from Malaysia’s Astro. Astro said at the end of October that it had secured exclusive Southeast Asia rights to HKTV drama, including The Bor- derline, Paranormal Mind, Once Upon a Song, Love in Time, Hidden Faces and Beyond the Rainbow. The cHK slate airing in Singapore in- cludes The Borderline, which airs on cHK on SingTel Mio TV in Mandarin with the option of a Cantonese sound-track with- in 24 hours of its Hong Kong broadcast. SingTel is running a free preview of the channel until 1 December. The Borderline, the story of a disgraced undercover cop who partners with a criminal to correct wrongdoings, is stripped Monday to Fridays at 10pm. The series stars veteran actors, Liu Kai-chi and Dominic Lam. CTE’s HKTV acquisitions for cHK also in- clude Hidden Faces, Love in Time and Hakka Sisters, starring Prudence Liew and Maggie Cheung as two sisters through whom the changing relationship be- tween China and Hong Kong in the past 30 years is examined.
